Last weekend a Mercedes club or meeting was driving through my village as I walked to the store. Pagoda SL's, but also regular classic sedans. All in perfect condition. Suddenly I heard a beautiful noise which made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. It was a 300 SL roadster. Such a beautiful car with a beautiful soundtrack. And great that the owner doesn't stow it away in a garage but drives it.
Pagoda Benz for the win. Not too exotic that you can't enjoy it but a feast for the eyes to behold its lines. And has that same husky straight 6 snarl. I can't watch Intersection for what they did to that car. I can only hope it was a dressed-up turd.
Just when I thought it would be awhile before Hoovie could top the Countach Rally, the next video is bringing us along for the ride in his ultimate dream car followed by actual tears of joy. I'm so glad the success hasn't gone to his head.
I remember riding along in the 300sl roadster of my friend for the first time, cried for the first 15 kilometers.. that sound, such a special car. Pure automotive art. Goosebumps, nice to see someone else have that same feelings.
I got to drive an all-original 300 SL Gullwing when I was a teenager, back in the late ‘80s/early ‘90s. The owner was a family friend. He flipped me the keys and said “Go ahead, take it for a spin up the road and back.” Couldn’t believe it, and I was terrified! I don’t think I ever made it over 35 mph, praying the whole time I wouldn’t crash it. Such a cool car!
Thank you YT Algorithm for bringing me here!! Awesome Hoovie!! That emotional bit at the end hit. I too feel that way about these, especially the Coupes. In '92 I was hired to spin wrenches in a local German independent repair shop. We had quite a few customers with 911's, 356's, 914's, and vintage Mercedes stuff. The shop owner had his father's all original 1968 W108 280SE sedan, black with red interior, electric sliding sunroof, and 4 on the floor. He allow my (then) GF and I to drive it up the CA coast, on Hwy1 to Monterey for a weekend. I was like you are here, the entire time, and we were like royalty rolling around Monterey in that sled. I returned from that trip and had to have one. When I discovered that a Coupe version was made (W111) it was all I thought about. I found one in San Francisco, in the for sale ads of the SF Chronical, a few weeks later: a 1966 250SE with electric sliding sunroof and 4 on the floor, in dark blue/green (Blau Grun). It is still the love of my life, and it sounds, and spools, exactly like the Roadster here. Those long intake runners are responsible for that. Once the air velocity and volume comes up into the 3,500-4,000rpm range, these engines just spool so hard that they go right to redline. Amazing. I had the opportunity to drive a customer's Roadster a few months after purchasing my Coupe. We did a service on it, and a little prep for a local show, and I was allowed to drive it the 3 or 4 miles across town, to the hotel where the show was. I was shaking!!
This reaction is why I and so many other Hooptie drivers continue to watch you. That and the joy you spread with your generosity. Tyler I got a little misty eyed driving the California coast and 17-mile drive a few years ago in something much less special. Those once in a lifetime moments get you right in the feels. Thanks for sharing with us. Makes me want to go back.
I understand the emotion. I remember as a senior in high school the gen 2 Ctsv came out. And I remember lusting over em ever since. Until around 2016 I was able to purchase an 11 sedan and driving that car the 2 hours home I was completely happy in shock and a little emotional. Sold it last year and it was truly the best car I've owned
"Where am I gonna find $1.29M dollars, Michael?" By a remarkable coincidence, Hoovie has precisely 1.29M subscribers as of the upload of this video. Everybody chip in a dollar, it'll be his Christmas present.
Hoovie you’re not the only one crying she back in the 80s my grandmother love this car this very exact same car in my six-year-old self told her that I would buy her one one day unfortunately she died from ovarian cancer in the late 90s every time I see this car I think of her and I do cry a little too thank you so much for allowing us to go for a ride.
I've driven and worked on many of these cars. I can tell you from experience - the feeling of awe and respect for these cars never fades. It's hard to describe the brilliance in design and build quality of these 300's. The special versions like the 29 alloy body gullwing cars were simply spectacular. True dream cars with beauty and style that would make you cry if you had the chance to experience them.
Honestly, if you get so emotional by this car. I think everybody will accept you selling some cars to make it work. I have not seen Hoovie being this happy because of a single car in such a long time, this is definitely an opportunity you should not let go. Keep up the good work :)
I was lucky enough to have one of these in my family for years. My dad bought it from Catron Motors in Pomona CA for $5400. My older brother drove it to HS and we had it maintained by Kurt Saunders, a German Mechanic who taught us to respect and properly maintain the cars. Wonderful car! I always loved the sound the fuel pump made when you turn the key on, the first sign of the engine leaping to the ready position. My brother sold it decades later but it was a precious part of my youth.
I know that feeling, Its fantastic your able to show you’re true emotions on RUclips so other young men can see that it’s more manly to show emotions than to act like we don’t have any. Great video, from the land down under 🇦🇺 & 🇺🇸
You met one of your heroes, it was better than you expected and that made you cry. No shame in that, I love it when it's a person (because it is SO rare when its better than you expect) :)
Hoovie, YOU just made my day! All the parts I've bought from Mercedes Benz Classic Center in Irvine for my 73 350SLC and my W116 fleet are well worth it. I just got to go on a ride along in a 300SL with You and Michael.... Goosebumps on an Aussie Winters morning!
I love the 300SL, but damn i would never want to own one of these. Imagine driving it and with every little stone hitting your hood or scratch, you start crying. I drive an old and cheap but cared for W115 as my daily and its just another feeling driving these vintage cars. It has no AC, no powersteering and every other week something new is leaking or broken, but i just love it. No electrionic parts and 9/10 times you can fix it yourself in a short time. Some parts getting more rare and more expensive, but i guess its nothing compared to a 300sl :D
Yeah I just can't be the average car owner even when I try. I bought a 25 year old car for $700 and I told myself I am NOT going to care for it, just drive it until the wheels fall off! Fast forward 3 months later and I have fixed everything on the engine, done a tune up, fixed all the broken trim on it, fixed all the rust, done a full detail, aaaand I'm planning on doing a full engine rebuild so it doesn't burn oil. How do people just run their cars into the ground? I can't bring myself to do it.
If a pebble hits it, take it like a man : ) I can understand the collector mindset but I'd never restore a classic car to level 1 concourse for this reason. These cars should be driven with gusto.
That look of pure joy was so wholesome, thanks for sharing Hoovie! Glad that you got to experience this. Vlog for the 2nd drive? I can understand if you don't have footage / didn't want to share.
Congratulations on meeting your hero and that it was such a moving experience. As you've had the pleasure of knowing it usually ends up a disappointment, keep up the great vids and maybe we veiwers can help you achieve this goal too.

The Mercedes 300SL is real vintage glamour on wheels, the Golden Era Hollywood, to drive and park in front of your Mid Century Modern beach house. And one of the best sounds. Incredible they left the car outside overnight though. Thank you Hoovie, and Mercedes, back in the saddle!
A high school buddy's neighbor owned a 300SL Roadster. This was around 1970 when I saw it parked outside on their driveway just like any other car, no big deal. It was a driver to the owner (though it was an upscale Fort Lauderdale area near the beach and on a ocean access canal). Still cost some serious 1970s cash but no one would think 1+ million back then.
i drove a close friends 1963 300sl roadster about 2 miles once. best drive of my life. i dont even care about the price, that car is magical how it rides, drives and stops. the shifter is this tiny almost delicate looking thing, but it shifts like the bolt of well oiled swiss k31. amazing stuff.
I spoke with the people at Mercedes Classic Center this year and let me just say they were very very helpful and very very Pleasant and courteous to talk to. They are definitely worth looking into if you need parts and have the money to have them made for you
On a more serious note, Mercedes Benz has a far more interesting past than present or future. Their classic and vintage cars are timeless. Then around the late 1990s they started letting the bean counters dictate everything. Ever since, and for the future, their cars are just German Cadillacs. But from the end of the war, even before the war with the old SLK etc, but really after the war, until the late 1990s, every Mercedes was special. No matter how many were mass produced, they were special cars.
Ehh, I think the W211 is still pretty special. I drive a W203 wagon which is just about one of the easiest cars to drive, very comfortable, reliable (with the M112 V6) but the interior quality is outpaced by the same year Toyota Camry, W211 is much nicer materials wise. At least W203 parts are similarly inexpensive like a Camry, my brother's E500 wagon has some pricey parts. I can't really comment too much on the other newer models as I haven't driven them but my parent's 2003 Sprinter they got new has been pretty good. My favorite Mercedes is a W201Sportline but I also adore the W123 (prefer a 240D to a 300D for weight balance) and W116. Also have a W124 which I have a love-hate relationship with due to the HVAC system being annoying to service and parts are getting harder to find.
I will have to agree..the sound is amazing! ...we have a modest simple Mercedes 300 glc suv.. we love it.. but that classic ride in this vid... priceless.

I own a 190SL. I love the 300SL! maybe one day..
I am amazed how easy the 190sl's are to drive!
Don't discredit your 190SL, it is a truly beautiful car.
@@TheWorldHasGoneNuts i would never!:)
@@FriendsChaser yes. I also own a 230 SL Pagode. Drives 10 times better. But the 190 is 10x cooler😅😄
@@Privatprofil aaah that sounds lovely! Ive yet to drive a pagode. Are the seats as comfortable?
Wow just wow. Congratulations Tyler. Thanks for taking us along. I grew up going to monterrey. So many memories. Took my 70 RS Camaro there in 2017. Yep i cried too.
Very happy for you - they say "Don't meet your idols" but I'm glad it didn't disappoint.
The way that your joy is expressed to us. It feels so real, so genuine. It makes me more motivated to accomplish my own goals someday. Thanks, Tyler
Countach is about to nuke himself up when he finds out Tyler cheat on him
you know that car would probably nuke itself anyways :D
Cheating on a Countach is like cheating on an italian girlfriend. She says she don't mind but...she mind and she's got revenge on her mind.
‘What have you got in your apron?’💍💄📿⛑🧢🎓🎩💎
and when she went 🏸🏓🏒🏑🏏🎳🎱
Oh it watched him do it, it knows.
What makes this video so special is how happy it appears to make you, and how the audience can share in that experience
The SL line been one of my old time favorite sport classics. Their proportions seem so visually appealing too.
*all-time
The shot at the ocean with the fog, and the color of the car…
Fucking mind blowing👍😳
I would be way too nervous to drive a $1.3 million car and then to vlog while doing it!? Giving me heart palpitations, Hoovie lol
When Tyler took the camera to film the steering wheel I could feel Michael clench up through my screen.
When he said it was the perfect daily driver, I was like "Yeah I totally want some uninsured chick on her cell phone in a Ford Focus plowing into the back of this thing at a red light"
@@rwdplz1 Yeah, but he probably meant how it was designed to be. As in during the era it was made. Or also just as a statement that it still would be if not for other factors such as that, value, etc.
Ya i wouldnt go past 2mph
the dude looked like a nervous wreck the entire drive
That is the most beautiful, desirable car that I have ever seen. Sell the Countach and some of the other cars in your stable and BUY this one. Besides, think of all the money you'll save trying to keep the Countach running. The Countach rally with all the breakdowns was a disaster.
I wouldn't be mad at all. he even cried after driving this car. go live your dream Hoovie!!!
But then he wouldn't be able to make all the videos, and would lose income.
Honestly, instead of a bunch of supercars, I think a bunch of weird hoopties and then one extremely desirable halo car is a much better fit for him.
This is one of the reason's I love this channel. A pure and honest video.
Thanks for sharing your dream come true! I just had mine as well when the big boy steam engine came through my home town and got to experience it with my kids. Tears as well made time stand still in this crazy fast world. No money could buy it. Love you hoovie!
I love how in Hoovies voice you can hear him fanboying and freaking out. It's awesome man to meet your dreams!
This is beautiful, an honest and simple video about not some idiot going around in an expensive car but, instead, really showing your emotions and love for these machines. Thank you very much Tyler, wish some day you sign the contract to buy one!
Really great cars. Ridiculously priced, but awesome.
What a gorgeous car, happy that you got to drive a car from your bucket list hoovie!!!
I remember riding along in the 300sl roadster of my friend for the first time, cried for the first 15 kilometers.. that sound, such a special car. Pure automotive art. Goosebumps, nice to see someone else have that same feelings.
Today was the best episode from Hoovie in so long. More of this please.
I have also driven the 300 SL Roadster. What an experience!!! I was totally blown away by the sound of the revving straight six.
Next video is gonna be: "I sold every car i have to buy my dreamcar"
Honestly though. You can only drive so many cars at once - may as well get that one you want
And I would be ok with that. Just seeing the joy on his face when he drove it made me smile so much.
And the video after that, "Here'$ everything that'$ wrong with my Mercede$ 300SL."
Wonder what the hoovie price is.
And none of us would mind!
This reaction is why I and so many other Hooptie drivers continue to watch you. That and the joy you spread with your generosity. I anticipate another hooptie give away and hope it is to a needy veteran. Especially right now... the community could use an uplift... I know Wizard would be all in... Much love
Fabulous car. More fun than when Schme150 drove it 👌🏼. Michael from the Mercedes Classic Center seems like a cool guy.
Very cool guy.
I don't know why I can't stand Shmee150. Maybe it's his voice or maybe I'm just jealous. Seems like a nice enough guy, must be me lol
@@SavedbyHim Boy, can I relate to that. Maybe it's also what comes across as ZERO humility.
@@SavedbyHim I think it's the persona that he presents. He's made a point of separating Tim from Shmee150, and it has worked quite well for him. Personally, I feel the same way as you. I sometimes watch Shmee150 but not much 🤷♀️. There's just something that I don't like watching much. Tim is a different story though. I quite like watching stuff where he's not doing the whole Shmee150 stuff
Shmee is a prick 😂
Tyler I got a little misty eyed driving the California coast and 17-mile drive a few years ago in something much less special. Those once in a lifetime moments get you right in the feels. Thanks for sharing with us. Makes me want to go back.
Beautiful car, automotive history and never to be repeated.
Hoovie, you are truly a blessed man. Thank you, for taking us along on this road trip.
I absolutely love that you genuinely cried over just getting to drive your dream car, that’s the passion that made me subscribed to your channel
The turn signal 🤯 blew my mind lol I think that’s the coolest thing I’ve seen in my whole life
Agreed. Search American cars party tricks. Old Tech is so Rad!
Till it breaks.
We once had an old Toyota Corona sedan with the same horn ring turn signal switch assembly - Toyota must have copied Mercedes-Benz!
You are driving history….elegant in every way.
17 mile drive, California dreamin. You have reached the ultimate worldly paradise.
"Where am I gonna find $1.29M dollars, Michael?"
By a remarkable coincidence, Hoovie has precisely 1.29M subscribers as of the upload of this video. Everybody chip in a dollar, it'll be his Christmas present.
Good idea
This is the best idea
acutally yes but instead give me the money
I'm down for that.
Hoovie you’re not the only one crying she back in the 80s my grandmother love this car this very exact same car in my six-year-old self told her that I would buy her one one day unfortunately she died from ovarian cancer in the late 90s every time I see this car I think of her and I do cry a little too thank you so much for allowing us to go for a ride.
the gullwing was my first poster car as a kid still one of the prettiest cars ever made silver over red interior phwoooar lol
It's important to note that there is not one flat surface on the body of the 300. Put that in context of the 1940's-50's....simply amazing.
Honestly, if you get so emotional by this car. I think everybody will accept you selling some cars to make it work. I have not seen Hoovie being this happy because of a single car in such a long time, this is definitely an opportunity you should not let go.
Keep up the good work :)
Yep, buy the damn car Hoovie. As car people, we understand…
Mercedes did a great job hiring michael, amazing service!
Thanks for showing! You are giving us some great content from pebble beach Tyler😎
I know that feeling, Its fantastic your able to show you’re true emotions on RUclips so other young men can see that it’s more manly to show emotions than to act like we don’t have any. Great video, from the land down under 🇦🇺 & 🇺🇸
What a beautiful piece of automotive history and art! Stunning!
You met one of your heroes, it was better than you expected and that made you cry. No shame in that, I love it when it's a person (because it is SO rare when its better than you expect) :)
300sl gullwing is one of the most beautiful cars ever built.
To be honest, I'd rather have the gullwing but even before that, the 280...in offwhite, blue top, white interior.
That's why paint protection film was invented.
If a pebble hits it, take it like a man : ) I can understand the collector mindset but I'd never restore a classic car to level 1 concourse for this reason. These cars should be driven with gusto.
Oh cmon it's not like you would daily drive it and you can protect it even further with a wrap
That look of pure joy was so wholesome, thanks for sharing Hoovie! Glad that you got to experience this.
Vlog for the 2nd drive? I can understand if you don't have footage / didn't want to share.
Steering wheel is gorgeous omg
Congratulations on meeting your hero and that it was such a moving experience. As you've had the pleasure of knowing it usually ends up a disappointment, keep up the great vids and maybe we veiwers can help you achieve this goal too.
Literally one of the most beautiful cars ever made. love it ❤
was nothing that she would 🙄🤗😍😄
Well done Mercedes Benz. I know they wouldn’t do this for everyone but good to see the genuine enthusiasm from the MB guy. Bravo.
Congrats Tyler! Wow, what an epic thing to be allowed to do. And the SOUND - wow, does that thing ever sound amazing.
The last time I cried from joy was when I watched my family enjoying a tidal pool on a secluded beach in Morocco. You do you. Those moments come too seldom in life.
Damn I love that bro
This 26 mile drive an the coastal drive are the best in the world. It's like driving in a painting.
@@craighearn747 "some of". Here are a couple more that I've experienced.
Blueridge Parkway - international award winning

you can tell how much Hoovie loves and respects these cars just in the voice he's using!
You genuinely love and appreciate good ole classics but a 300 SL it’s way above anything else, to me my all time favorite!! I think I choked up too man knowing the way that you most have felt. Thumbs way up.
That truly is a beautiful car, you should buy it Tyler, you know you can and you probably won't ever get the chance to buy one as nice as that one!!!
How will he buy it? He said he was broke and needed our $12.69/month so he can buy shitty old BMWs while sitting in his mini mansion with 30+ cars in his garage and friends hangar. Don't you understand how tough things are these days??
@@drags666 oh dam i forgot about that, thanks for reminding me. Suppose i better buy some more merchandise of the poor guy, i don't like the thought of him going bankrupt or his wife and children having to give up their daily dose of smoked salmon. 😁
The Mercedes 300SL is real vintage glamour on wheels, the Golden Era Hollywood, to drive and park in front of your
Mid Century Modern beach house. And one of the best sounds. Incredible they left the car outside overnight though.
Thank you Hoovie, and Mercedes, back in the saddle!
It's absolutely a beautiful car. Hopefully, you can get it. If not at least you got great memory of driving a dream car :)
You can't help but love Hoovie.
This is the content we need.
Sounds amazing when it gets up in revs.
i drove a close friends 1963 300sl roadster about 2 miles once. best drive of my life. i dont even care about the price, that car is magical how it rides, drives and stops. the shifter is this tiny almost delicate looking thing, but it shifts like the bolt of well oiled swiss k31. amazing stuff.
"Yes MB had this, like... quality approach." Well said Michael, well said.
New mercedeses unfortunatly look the same like all cars do sad
I will have to agree..the sound is amazing! ...we have a modest simple Mercedes 300 glc suv.. we love it.. but that classic ride in this vid... priceless.
7:12 back when MB cared about reliability and building the best possible vehicle...not just one they could sell more of.......
People who arent car enthusiasts think we are crazy but hoovies reaction is every little boys dream come true in that one moment in time. These arent just cars. They are dreams. When I was a boy Id point every car out on the road to my dad and could tell you everything about it. From ford escorts to 63 vettes. My father knew it was everything to me so he would get me matchbox cars and calendars and everything CAR. He got it. I get it hoovie. Thanks for allowing us to share that with you. It took me back in time buddy.
I had a Micro Machine of this car. It was one of my favorites as a kid. Stunning car.
Magnificent car.I can understand you being emotional having driven your grail car.I really enjoyed this.Cheers from Australia
Now THIS is beautiful.
Hoovie is the only youtube car dude I can relate to, he has real love for cars and knows his stuff quite well. I did enjoy the normal cars more than the supercars, I would trade those for this Merc anyday of the week. This is just so classy. You drive in this before being bold and grey and you are a true hero in my book.
The office space my company rents from also has a vehicle storage bay in it. There's a 300SL gullwing in there, next to a new Huracan, c8 and a 570s. It's quite a diverse collection
The sound of the transmission! Like any other car in reverse, or like a Jeep (wartime). Every movie about WWII, when those MB trucks carrying soldiers show up, sound exactly like this car.
