I just pulled the harness out through the hole, (Gently, after watching this video) unplugged the old one and plugged in the new one. Zero panels removed.

Everyone can save themselves time and effort by fast forwarding to 3:25. Pop & peel pack the plastic cover to reach and unclip the pigtail. Dealer quotes $400 for labor it took me under 15 min for whole replacement.

Ditto on what this guy said "Everyone can save themselves time and effort by fast forwarding to 3:25. Pop & peel pack the plastic cover to reach and unclip the pigtail. Dealer quotes $400 for labor it took me under 15 min for whole replacement." Only thing I'd like to add is that the connector was secured to the body with a push in type anchor, no big deal to pop off. One thing I was worried about was while researching I read comment somewhere that if the lift gate was raising up it wasn't the motor. Not accurate. Mine was raising up 3/4 the way and than would raise completely when the button was pushed. Would not lower at all electrically.
Replacing the motor fixed it all.

I replaced my actuator and only bent the trim panel over a bit to unplug the connector and did not damage anything. That cured my issue. As I suspected it was a broken wire in the rubber boot

Wholly panel removal. And in the end you didn’t even pull that top panel off all the way.
Thanks for the video, just wanted to know if I needed to pull that panel off and now I know I don’t.

My wiring harness seems to have detached from under the trim panel. I’m actually able to pull the connector through the hole. Door works but struts are bad. I’m assuming I can just replace the strut and push the electrical connector back through the hole without pulling the trim pieces?

3:17 Is this your vehicle, or is the owner going to be pissed that you creased the panel opposite the trim/pry tool?
