I kept hearing it was not going to be on the switch version! So that's a nice surprise! I wanna pick it up but should I wait for a little bit of a sale? That's a steep price haha!
Thank you for the review! I am extremely excited for the game and wanted it on switch but was really concerned that the port wouldn’t be good. Now I’m excited to buy and play. Thanks man
As always, awesome and very detailed review. As someone who played hours on end with Tiger Woods back in the day, it’s great to see a golf game come to Switch. You called it...GAMEPLAY! It reigns supreme with this genre and glad to hear it’s good enough to keep you entertained. Looking forward to picking up this title and hope for some DLC for additional courses in the future (TPC Sawgrass!) - biased because it’s local. Keep up the great work. Your channel rocks! CHEERS!
I was a big follower of the Tiger Woods golf game series and had from 2005 all the way up to the masters. Then the series disappeared. Now I am really happy to see a realistic golf game come to the switch and ever since I got it. I have been playing the crap out of it. I still miss the TW series but this takes it's place just fine. It's a lot of fun despite the issues and they don't really bother me.
When I got sent out to Kuwait, my Squad leader pulled out Tiger Woods Golf PGA tour 2005. I would just watch him play, then one day I really wanted to play, I was hooked. A few day to a week later I was getting good within the month I was beating him left and light. I am waiting for this copy to come in this week.
Even with its issues, it looks better than I thought it would. There was basically no gameplay footage for Switch up to release so I feared the worst. Glad to see it's not so bad.
Matt S. Totally agree. Joycons are crap for most sports games. I go with the pro controller all the way. The graphics are x-box 360 quality but the gameplay is solid. I love it.
Thanks for this initial review/impression. Most of the other outlets are lumping switch with ps4/xbox etc for their review when there are obviously differences between the consoles. Subbed!
Great review from someone who clearly knows golf, as well as what is needed for a good golf game. Subbed to the channel because of this review. Have a great day.
This really is the COVID version of the game!! I think you really need to highlight how the lack of atmosphere changes this considerably. The lack of any atmosphere without the crowds, other players combined with the bad frame rate, shadows and poor distance drawing, really disappointed having bought this, the Xbox/PS was doing miles better than this 10 years ago!! I agree it’s a portable title so we have to accept some corner cutting but this is too far! Get something else. Time to fight for a refund which will be almost impossible with Nintendo’s policy
Thanks Randy, I figured that we would only see other consoles with this one honestly so I moved quick, I put maybe 6 hours into it for full transparency but I wanted to get something out there so people could see it for themselves before release tomorrow! That’s why I put first impressions in the title too!
I thought this was going to be released at the end of September so I was excited to see it released today! I'm also eagerly awaiting a solid wrestling game on Switch.
Gotta be honest... Just started the vid. The 2nd ad was the game you are reviewing lol. Never had that before. Awesome review altho would love a Happy Gilmore game lol
Been looking forward to this but I'm sad to say I think no 3-click system is a deal breaker for me. I never really got on with swinging the analogue stick and it just made golf games frustrating for me and took the fun away. Huge shame they didn't include it as an option. but couple that with no crowds and the way that shadows draw and I'm sadly out on this one. Maybe pick it up in a massive sale in a year or two but £50, no way.
Indeed, and not only that but the joycons precision suck for this game, you will need at best the pro controller in order not to mess up your game. Not worth the money.
So not even the tournaments in career mode have crowds? That's odd. I didn't hear anything about that until now. Does it make the career mode feel empty/weird during big tournament moments?
Yeah it feels weird, if you look at the graphics part of the video, I show the 16th at TPC Scottsdale, a wild hole normally and it’s just empty stadiums. On other consoles you can turn crowds on and off, here that option is completely missing
Wasn't sure if I would purchase the game but you convinced me. Still enjoy playing Wii Golf hoping for a sequel or praying for a Mario Golf game sometime down the road. I guess this game will help my wait.
I got it for PS4 instead of the switch for the fact you need to be online to play career mode. I barely play my switch in handheld mode. Only time I do is while traveling. Plane rides, car rides (not driving) lol. Etc. plus a lot of my friends decided to get it for console which made my decision easier. I may decide to get it for switch eventually.
good review, you got a new sub (although no mention of the rumble or what frame rate it runs at, or how much the tiny joycon sticks hinder the swing mechanics). i'm yet to play this but completely agree with the dodgy swing system in modern golf games, devs need to take notice.
I actually think the tiny joysticks make it easier honestly! When I switched from pro controller to joycon it felt easier! Regarding frame rate I didn't do an analysis on this one sorry!

PINKSTER007 Yes it does...just played my first round on the Switch. Saves numerous stats for the round, including drives landed on fairway, regulation green and putts to name a few. There’s an initial load time when you first boot up the game and choose the Round you going to play, but once loaded there is no slowdown at all from shot to shot or hole to hole. IMO they have done a great job...there might be some sacrifices you are making for the Switch version, but for having a portable golf game to this standard it is well worth it.
I’m pretty sure the course creator isn’t in the switch version at least at launch but it’s the complete lack of atmosphere that kills this version such a shame as the nba series is fantastic on switch easily rivals the Xbox and PS4 version with obvious downgrades but this pga switch version just feels like a stripped down barebones experience it’s a shame really could of been great.
this game is dope but they really screwed up just trying to fit this game on the switch. Like its an eyesore of a game on switch and it drains your battery fast in handheld mode. thats the only reason i bought it. Im still gonna grind this game out but man they made too many graphical sacrifices on a game that already needed work as is.

@@SwitchCorner oh that's awesome. I just downloaded NBA 2k20 and it was 40gigs 🤣 8 is nothing. Def buying digital instead of waiting for physical. Thanks for the info!
No worries, let’s just see if there’s a monster patch too lol. But yeah NBA is a beast of a game!
@@chrisbrowning5955 I still don't see it on the NA eShop.
Does it track your course stats, best score, etc??
PINKSTER007
Yes it does...just played my first round on the Switch.
Pretty cool seeing it on the go right! Still gets me with the occasional game on the go
Very tempted, would wait for the physical to drop in price. Are there leaderboards?
I’m pretty sure the course creator isn’t in the switch version at least at launch but it’s the complete lack of atmosphere that kills this version such a shame as the nba series is fantastic on switch easily rivals the Xbox and PS4 version with obvious downgrades but this pga switch version just feels like a stripped down barebones experience it’s a shame really could of been great.
The course creator IS in the Switch version at launch.
WOW!!! This golf sim is almost as good as Links 2003 for the PC!
this game is dope but they really screwed up just trying to fit this game on the switch. Like its an eyesore of a game on switch and it drains your battery fast in handheld mode. thats the only reason i bought it. Im still gonna grind this game out but man they made too many graphical sacrifices on a game that already needed work as is.
Those shadows are unforgivable. Plus no online community. Xbox it is.
@John Rand yup
Does it run at 30 or 60 frames?
in handheld it’s below 30
Yeah it’s variable
On sale for £25 but no crowd then no buy not gonna play a practice championship rounds 👎
Why aren’t you playing switch footage in the background?
That is switch footage what else would it be?
No motion controls for swinging? Meh, I'm out.
How do you play as the pro golfers' is it possible
No. Not possible unfortunately
@@ryanfagan8503 that is very disappointing for a $60 game. Although the gameplay in general is pretty on point.
The Switch version looks like dog $H1t. It looks like a PS2 game. Watch it run on the other platforms, and then again on Switch. The differences are night and day. It doesn't run great on Switch either.
Switch version is a joke. Should of known better. Looks like hot garbage. Bad frame rate. Been waiting 10 years for pga game on Nintendo machine and get this unless port. Waste.😔
The putting is HORRIBLE!!!!!!!
Why? It’s not that far from the usual golf club set up?
Oh ok so this wasnt really a review. You just tell us about the features of the game which we already knew. Waste of time. No subscribe.
Uhm.. no, i didn't know. This review was really helpful.
