Some of my best moments in fencing involved a skyhook. So satisfying to pull it off, nothing short of perfect timing.
Nice choice in the music. It makes me feel Good, Bad and Ugly all at the same time.
Mostly Ugly.
I wish there was a channel like this for epee, but this is still extremely entertaining
Have you tried @Big Bear Fencing ?

@@SlicerSabre omg broooooo thanks so much now I have something to watch aside from your videos and old epee matches thanks so much!
In France we call that "une lopez"
very nice... great idea... i used the draw cut but then tried to parry the attack (worked sometimes) or ran away (fast!!!) but this is MUCH MUCH BETTER...
I don't know why I never used (when I was competing and could fence) it as it seems so obvious now looking at others do it..... don't simple things look so obvious once someone has shown or explained this to you....lol
Beautiful to see. Can I get a consensus on the refereeing call here please? In the case that the skyhook/draw cut MISSES in the initial action, no light for either side. I think that should be attack no, counterattack no, priority back with the attacking fencer, right? Obviously as long as they take it up straight away.
This is as opposed to a stop cut which happens BEFORE the attack is finished, therefore if that failed it would be counterattack no, THEN attack no, and the priority is with the defending fencer?
That's how I'd call it.
Very very very very very satisfying compilation 🤤
Not if you're on the receiving end multiple times in a single bout, tho.
Soooo good 😍
Look at that flick on that wrist, woop!
Is there any record of hits vs attempts? We in fencing are terrible in keeping stats, but it would be useful to track what the hits/attempts for sky hooks, plus other actions. Now that we have video, we can farm it off to people to count. How many parry immediate ripostes, etc.
Actually it is hard to collect that kind of data in fencing. Not all international matches are recorded. And counting that would need people watching all matches all day long.
Hard to tell. I have to watch a lot of matches to make this kind of video so it's not a common action. I definitely found that if a fencer successfully does one skyhook in a match, they are pretty likely to get more.
Osvath at 1:18....Jesus.
I signed up for fencing yeash I’m nervous and exited aT the same time ye I’m still young tho so lol maybe will give up as soon as I start practicing💕😌
Hope you like it!
LOLLLL THAT’S LITERALLY ME RN. How has it been going for you?
Me, a HEMA nerd: omigosh, a shietielhau!
Isn’t a shietelhau just a vertical cut to the top of the head with the true edge? I don’t really see how a skyhook matches up with the typical interpretation.
@@matthewpham9525 you are correct this isn't a schietelhau. At best you could try for a krump equivalent, but that's a stretch.
It's just a well timed basic strike to the hand, which we see in nearly ever cutting art
@@matthewpham9525 Yes, but the movement of the arm and wrist is mirror-similar to the skyhook, and some interpret this cut is also a retreating counterattack, so tactical usage is also the same. The thing that skyhook aims wrist comes probably from weapon differences (distance is somehat different in two handed weapons).

Meyer includes the shietelhau in his one handed rapier/rappier/sidesword. A shietel on a retreating counterattack in the nach could be perhaps be fairly similar a skyhook depending on the interpretation, but the scalp cut has to be towards the scalp.
@@matthewpham9525 Yes, one may say so :)
Saber has turned into garbage
Yup
