AvE now how do I go about doing that lol
My neurosurgeon used this method when drilling into my skull. It was rather painful; especially when clamping my head to the drill press ..
but, he was able to thread the hole afterwards, to install a used drainplug from a small block V8.
I had planned to say more ...
but, I can't remember what it was about.

well, if u use it only on softer surfaces nothing of the tungsten will rub away, still i did not answer your question.

I had a Tungsten Carbide wedding ring. First day at work at a new job, it slipped off my finger, hit the concrete and cracked through on one side.
stonent
did you take the hint?
That sucks but it's not too surprising. While she's harder than frig it's also brittle as.
Jmann147 nah, just the wrong cementing. cobalt cintered carbide is untouchable, but i'm not sure what it's like for toxicity, what with the cobalt.
I just stopped wearing it since the crack was snagging on hair.
They say if you ever get a tungsten wedding ring stuck and need to get it off, don't try to cut it, just put some vice grips on it and keep doing a 1/4 turn or put it in a vice and slowly tighten. It will eventually just crack and fall off under the pressure without any harm to your hand.
Looks like it might fit in Taofledermaus' shotgun.

It means it reached a very high temp. Some steels begin throwing sparks at near or above welding temps.

First time on this channel and can say I enjoy the sparce vulgarity :)
We used to use friction saws to cut steel pipe that was up to 16" in diameter. The blades were almost 6' in diameter and just made of steel. It actually worked fairly well, not a pretty cut but it was fast.
Where are friction saws used these days?
I read about it in a 193X machinist book.
Never heard of it before or since.
Can you demonstrate tapping those holes you made?
+AvE, just going back and watching old videos, saturday morning and all, and I wanted to mention a potential reason as to why Chinese carbide is good while the HSS is junk. It's an artifact of the manufacturing process, a lot of HSS is milled before hardening then ground as little as possible on ancient grinders to save on cost. Where as carbide comes in sintered sticks and has to be ground from solid on a modern nine axis grinder. So the resolution on the newer machine is better, there's only one process before coating and the wheel has to be very fine grained. All this adds up to a better process leading to a better product.
Nice
the (potential) answer I came here to find, thank you
That's pretty cool. Always good to learn about new tools from other trades 👍
I use a nail as drill bit I don't know why?
That's pretty oldschool. My grandpa makes and fixes all kinds of the old times tool for the entire of our village (people still widely use them as they did 100 years ago and beyond) like, rakes, brooms, hoes and stuff, and he drills holes with a nail.... spitting on it while drilling it's quite a spectacle

And now what if you tap this? the holes are case hardened steel right?
first, this wouldn't be case hardening. case hardening involves increasing carbon content in the areas you want to harden. second: the holes wouldn't be very hard at all because the cooling process is too slow. it would cool fast enough to properly harden some high-alloy steels, but not structural steel or the likes of it. tapping will probably not be as smooth as you'd like, but should work.
