Hey matt ive been following you for years. Just last month i bought a 2019 RF in red. Its the only one in the state of hawaii. This this is QUICK! and handles better than anything for the price. Theres nothing like it. Mazda as a whole should be outselling subaru and toyota in 5 years. Just my opinion. They are making better cars.
Totally unrelated. Rented a Camaro in Maui and found out it was infested with cockroaches 🤮. Anyway, recently discovered the Miata, really loving it and can see one in my future.
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! It's so hard to find a review where they actually push this car to its limit and show the possibilities of the extended rev range!!
The GT-S trim with the Club Bilsteins, strut tower brace, and limited slip diff. It’s the best new USDM option group available in my opinion. Great car, great review.
My Wife and I are considering a Miata, we’ve looked at, and have driven a couple. After seeing Your video, I would like to drive the 2019! Thanks for a great review of this little roadster!
This video had me grinning like the Cheshire Cat! So fun to watch your enthusiasm. I drive a 2008 MX-5 GT hardtop as my daily driver and it works for me just fine, but seeing how the 2019 is, I can’t help but consider upgrading. I don’t use my CD-changer anymore either. lol. Went with an FM tuner Bluetooth adapter instead.
0:22 Jesus Christ Matt, you know you can zoom out or pull the camera back right? You don't have to be slouching like that to fit in the frame. Great review but real talk, I'm worried about your posture, that does NOT look healthy at all
I daily drove an ND1 Miata for over 4 years, and it was awesome. But it really helped that my wife had an SUV for trips, grocery shopping, and moving larger items. :-)
I now own a 2019 Miata Club RF with the Brembo wheels and brakes. I recognize your enthusiastic giggle...I see myself in the mirror laughing every day when I drive this wonderful car👍🏻. Great review...factual and fun🤓
One of my favourite reviews done by you that I'll be coming back to watch in several years time - alongside TheTopher's POV video he has done with the 2019 ND MX-5. Only few things that I'll point out: 1. Considering that most people use portable devices to listen to music nowadays, I think its alright for Mazda to ditch the CD system, considering the fact that this 2019 MX-5 costs a tiny bit more than the 2018 yet comes with a host of engine upgrades, which aren't a cheap thing to do for a manufacturer. 2. Whilst I completely agree that the backup camera looks out of place, I think I'll be fine by that because the numberplate region would be too low for the camera to see oncoming objects - Having said that, people should learn to drive better in a small car like the MX-5 if they happen to rely too much on a backup camera! Having said all that, great work!
Thanks Richie! Yeah not having a CD player wouldn't bother me since I rarely use them, but I know there's still a few people that really like them so that's the only reason why I mentioned it.
4:03 -- Ha Ha! Interesting taste in music but to each their own. My dad has ordered his blue MX-5 with those same options except with a black interior. Hope to have it by late spring! Previously had a white 2016 club but was totaled when it got hit in a T-bone.
Look at Matt ! All grown up and shaving now. Just kidding. You've been doing this a while. Nice review with lots of details placed in a short timeslot: someone did their homework. Considering the Miata in the future and I appreciate your balanced review.
By the way, while the GT model does not come with the Club's handling goodies, Mazda addressed that with the "S" option (aka GT-S), which adds the limited slip dif and shock tower brace. I thought that was a well bought ($550 US) option.
Great review, this car is amazing and fast too. The new key fob of the 2019 Mazda 3 is nice it's similar to Volvo's new key fob, hopefully Mazda will introduce it to all models next year...I agree with someone here that you're having so much fun with this car...🏎🏎🏎😀😀😀
Another great review. My buddy just drove a GT with the AUTO transmission. He liked it better than the manual. I think he’s crazy but, now I’m going to have to try it as well. I’m def getting a GT this spring! Prob Machine Gray w/ Auburn leather. I always thought the manual was the ONLY way to go. Now I’m not so sure....
The auto is king if you want the fastest Mustang or sit in lots of traffic. The 10 speed makes it feel faster too, but it's still too slow with the shifts in manual mode in my opinion.
Oh gotcha haha my bad! Honestly the 6 speed auto in the Miata is okay, again a great choice if you sit in lots of traffic or don't like manuals, but for me it's not even a consideration, I'd only go manual.
I've loved the MX-5 since 1990. It's truly in its own class, as the BRZ and 86 are much heavier and cars like the Boxter are FAR more expensive. I'm saving up for a Club with the Brembo, Bilstein and Recaro upgrades. Great review, Matt!
Are the plugs for the CD player still sitting there waiting for an after market CD player to pop in? Alternatively you could run 12 volts to it and get a bluetooth CD play/transmitter combo. Still the more I think about it the more I'd rather see the hole enlarged to simply make the back glovebox larger.
I've watched this video so many times, and I just watched your review on the 2019 Corvette ZR1. Comparing the 2 reviews, i think you had more fun driving the miata, or at least you had bigger smiles. I'm coming from c5zo6, and test drove the ND2, I haven't been able to get over my test drive, how fun it was to drive.
i really enjoy your review and delivery...except the audio is quite distracting. Maybe a lav mic would cut out the wind, rattling and environmental noises.
Great review. I bought this exact package and color combo in April of 2019 and after 36k+ miles and 2+years I'm very very pleased with it as well. That's not to say I haven't experienced my share of issues with it.... (1) replaced soft top (2x due to dealer install issue) and (2) replaced the AC compressor and compressor hard line which failed at 35, 850K miles. Would I buy it again? Absolutely. There's a real reason why it has 36k miles over the past 2 years including over a year of COVID-19 non-driving!
George Soto in the past here in Europe, Honda made an N/A i-vetc engine which reved to 8,000rpm and produced 200bhp. They stopped producing this engine because it would not meet the new European emissions regulation. Most manufacturers now turbocharge their engines to meet the latest emissions standards and to improve power output. Mazda have not gone down this route with the current MX-5 2ltr engine. Here in Europe this engine meets the current EU6 emissions standard and produces 182bhp. Mazda should be commended for achieving this. By the way, here in Europe all the latest Honda Civic range of cars are turbocharged. Hope this clarifies my previous comments.
John Roskruge I get you but there’s ways around it to improve emissions my 2014 civic si does fine with emissions and I live in California the most regulated emissions place on earth lol with that being said there’s ways to better emissions for example my car only has one vtec on the exhaust cam and not on the intake like like most other Honda motors and no only that they have ceramic intake manifold with longer runners that help with emissions as well as an intergrated head which also helps with emissions not the ideal vtec motor to the Honda fan boys but at the end of the day it’s still producing 205hp and 170lb torque but yeah turbo charged is the way most car companies have gone but yeah still pretty impressive for what mazda has done but if that could squeeze out 200hp that would be awesome lol
George Soto I take it yours has been modified to produce those figures, or maybe Honda supply different engines to your market. I have a 2007 Civic Type-R which I have owned from new. I love the Vetec engine, but Honda stopped making them due to the EU regulations. My wife has the new Mazda MX-5 and I am very impressed with this engine, 45mph is easily achievable and it’s very free reving.
I test-drove a 2018 RF in that colour, and it was pretty perfect as it was. I bought a cheaper car in the end but still want a 2019+ once they come down a bit. I'd have to agree, it is a perfect Miata, going back to its roots.
Your review was hilarious. Your excitement contagious. Thanks for that. I never get any reviews on the sound system. What is that like? Also for music lovers, do you find the system constraints enough of a deterrent? Thanks.
Every review understandably complains about the placement of the back up camera but never mentions the probable reason. I'm sure Mazda designers weren't crazy about the location either but they probably didn't have much of a choice. I'd imagine the usual license plate light area sits too low for the back up camera to have an ideal and useful view.
Great review. I was looking at the Miata vs the Fiat Spider, leaning towards the Spider as I like both it's exterior and interior look more, but now with the additional H/P, it makes it a tough choice. Does the 19 Miata still come with a alternate red top (liked this version paired with gray?)
I always forget about the hidden cubby holes! Have driven my ‘16 all over the West. Great touring vehicle (unless you’re a tall passenger.) Has plenty of power for the streets and passing power. Wish I had the GT leather seats + 19 extra HP. You can get the LSD on the GT now.
How is it the 2016 MX5 (I own one) did 0 to 60 in 5.8, including upshift to third gear, while the more-powerful 2019 that hits 60 in second is only 1/10 of a second quicker?
When the nd came out it was as fast if not faster than the 86/brz. So it’s definitely gonna walk them now. The looks definitely grew on me over time too. I liked it when it came out but now I think it looks great. I lmao when I saw you were bumping back street boys in a mx5 though.
Just purchased a 2021 RF GT. Also have an Alfa Romeo Stelvio Ti and a C7 Grand Sport. I consider myself extremely lucky to be able to drive them all. But I keep driving the MX-5 over the others…
I’m cross shopping between the Miata RF & new BRZ. The Subie has direct & port injection to avoid carbon buildup plus I can get subwoofer in it. Is the Mazda significantly better enough to chose it? Anyone have opinions?
Yeah. I traded in my 2017 86 for a 2020 Miata GT RF (the hard top version). I can’t vouch for the GR86 since it’s barely out and hardly anyone has it or test drove it. So you won’t get much answers besides theory. But personally I thought the ND2 quality was way higher, and the power and torque was pretty nice and feels quick. In the 86 it felt like a chore to pick up speed and be quick. It got exhausting. It was nice high end RPMs but low end was really annoying. The ND2 feels great from beginning to end. Plus I feel like I own a luxury car compared to a lot of cars on the road. But again this is a 2017 86 comparison. Gotta wait another nice while till enough people have the GR86. But there is RUclips videos up from reviewers, savagegeese, for example
I’d also like to add it’s going to sound cliche, but with the top down you feel like you’re going way faster the you are. Yes this car is quick though but even going 60 on the freeway at first I felt like I was going really fast. Now I’m used to it and drive around 80 but I remember first being in it and being like wow how fast am I going ?? Huh ??? Only 60. Lol.
Matt: great review of new Miata! Considering the comfort level, fun factor and MPG, this would make a fantastic daily for most people! Why do you think of it as a “second” car. Why is your Mustang better as a daily? Why not make Mustang the weekend one? Just saying...👍🏻😊😎
The mx5 is the most loved and hated car lol. REAL enthusiasts will see the car for what it is and realize that it’s one of the best cars for the $ spent in terms of pure driving enjoyment. The haters are narrow minded who obviously have never driven one, only read specs on paper, and they don’t realize how fun they actually are.
When you can make an owner of a 480 HP car smile and giggle with your 180 HP car, you’ve done it right. Well done Mazda.

Jimmy870 Not at all!
Michael Felt - that’s interesting because I have a used 2008 PRHT GT Miata as a “second” car and a Bullitt as “daily” . But since I got the used Miata, I drive it more then my Bullitt which stays in garage becoming my “second car!” 😂 lol
Maybe I’ll trade both for upgraded 2019 Miata like yours!👍🏻😊
I'm a simple man : I see Miata, I click
My tastes are simple too. All I want is perfection. Hence: Miata.
I didnt know they sold miatas to men.
@@littlebits6231 yeah James this isn't the place. people here love miatas lol
James if you don’t think a man can drive this then your over compensating something.....
Totally unrelated. Rented a Camaro in Maui and found out it was infested with cockroaches 🤮.
Anyway, recently discovered the Miata, really loving it and can see one in my future.

Such an awesome review! Camera rattle was distracting at times though. Thanks for motivating me to work even harder for my attainable dream car!
Was the camera the rattling sound I was hearing? That was concerning to me; hopefully that was it!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!! It's so hard to find a review where they actually push this car to its limit and show the possibilities of the extended rev range!!
Love this review! I've never seen anyone enjoy the Miata as much as you. This video just helped Mazda to sell more MX-5s.
The reviewer is genuinely happy - it’s shining through the screen
I love this channel!! As a new channel Matt is so inspiring to me!The miata is such a fun little car I cant wait to drive the new one
5.7 for its power output 0.O. well now the 86/brz need to bring those numbers up on theirs too cause this is the 86's competitor.
Not anymore.... 86 BRZ will get smoked.
@@kyshro Enjoy your cam plates leaking oil. Those subaru boxers are junk
I think this is the most enthusiastic I've ever seen you in any of your videos. The Miata definite provides the most smiles per any metric.
“Enough space for sunglasses, tickets....” Speeding tickets?
Dale Menna Is that your way of saying the Miata isn’t fast? I can assure you that you can easily get a speeding ticket in any Miata.
10:23 "Here we go... whoa ohhHH YEAHH!!!!" (lets turn onto this backroad here)
Man every time you go to the back roads you make me smile with you!
Look at how lively that 2.0 inline 4 is. I bet if the 86/BRZ had a nice power band curve people would shut up about lack of power.
The enthusiasm in this review made me HAVE to test drive one. The test drive made me buy one. It gets over 9000 smiles per gallon!
Definitely one of my dream cars I hope to get in 5 or 7 years
Imagine what s to come with this car in the future
The GT-S trim with the Club Bilsteins, strut tower brace, and limited slip diff. It’s the best new USDM option group available in my opinion. Great car, great review.
What most people wont realize is the powerband is much much wider making it feel that much more lively
My Wife and I are considering a Miata, we’ve looked at, and have driven a couple. After seeing Your video, I would like to drive the 2019! Thanks for a great review of this little roadster!
Keeping it simple and informative, i like your style Matt👍
Fingers crossed Mazda brings back the Mazdaspeed MX-5.
Any hopes of another MS miata has now been completely destroyed by this global economic meltdown and subsequent collapse of demand... so sad :/ :(
You're having WAY too much fun, Dude!
He should just buy one.
I’m really digging this car. what a great review Matt. I was so obsessed with the Mustang, camaro and charger, but now I like Miata thanks to you :)
One of your best videos Matt!
Right up there with the 2018 Mazda3 Grand Touring video.
Another excellent review, Matt. We've chosen this for our next car. Can't wait!
Loving the looks of these new Miatas
i love matt when does a pull in any car
It was one of the best lightweight sportscars...and it has gotten even better. The manual transmission is telepathic.
Only few things that I'll point out:
Nice review and vehicle. Couldn’t resist the open air motoring even in the chilly PA climate. Can’t blame you.
Imagine If Mazda gave the 2.5 the hot rod treatment and dropped that in at say 205hp and 190lbsft
That would be more than a dream car :)
Still no heads-up display, huh? Hope they add it. They should copy the Chevy SS’ heads-up display settings when they do.
4:03 -- Ha Ha! Interesting taste in music but to each their own.
My dad has ordered his blue MX-5 with those same options except with a black interior. Hope to have it by late spring!
Previously had a white 2016 club but was totaled when it got hit in a T-bone.
0 dislikes, this proves you cant dislike a Miata video
The_Shadow_5.0 some douche is gonna see your comment and dislike it just cause. You ruined it.

What a gorgeous little car. May have to sell the NB for one in 2 years or so when depreciation works it's magic a bit.
Love the video and your appreciation of the MX-5!!!!
Love it. Mazda seemed to address most of the demands consumers had about the new miata.
Love your enthusiasm Matt!!
I have owned sports cars since 1970. The 2019 ND GT-S is my all-time favorite.

Matt Maran Motoring I was referring to the MX-5 Miata GT (Grand Touring)
Oh gotcha haha my bad! Honestly the 6 speed auto in the Miata is okay, again a great choice if you sit in lots of traffic or don't like manuals, but for me it's not even a consideration, I'd only go manual.
The auto makes texting and driving easier. I keep missing shifts when I am updating Facebook. I am no buying manuals any more- Not
Max Martz You sound charming and super smart Max. Thanks for playing.
Great review Matt. Absolutely love that color....
Great review as usual Matt!!
Been waiting for this!
An tan top in this color combo would be amazing!
i really enjoy your review and delivery...except the audio is quite distracting.
Why can’t any car makers make a 2.0l or any 4 cylinder make 200hp like Honda does I just don’t understand
George Soto emission regulations.
John Roskruge doesn’t make sense
Would like to see a comparison of this and the RF version
Small enough to fit an RPG right in the middle plus NOS boost every time an RPGS fired.
- Epic
I test-drove a 2018 RF in that colour, and it was pretty perfect as it was. I bought a cheaper car in the end but still want a 2019+ once they come down a bit.
I'd have to agree, it is a perfect Miata, going back to its roots.
I was looking into buying the GR86 as a 2nd car, but I also like the Miata RF. What do you think about the automatic transmission in the Miata?
Your review was hilarious. Your excitement contagious. Thanks for that. I never get any reviews on the sound system. What is that like? Also for music lovers, do you find the system constraints enough of a deterrent? Thanks.
No one's gonna miss that CD player but I wish Mazda made the center console glove box bigger to use up that space.
Steve M Yes, the Black Cherry top is still an option. I have an 18 Machine Gray with it. Live the look.
Brillant car . I like this colour though would possibly still opt for the 'Machine Grey' and the RF . Good review !!
That back up camera placement is a eyesore
that is the exact car I have just with the black interior love the car I really wanted the blue and was lucky to get one I dont see very many of them
How is it the 2016 MX5 (I own one) did 0 to 60 in 5.8, including upshift to third gear, while the more-powerful 2019 that hits 60 in second is only 1/10 of a second quicker?
Have you given the 2020 a whirl? It seems like they might have turned up the drama with the intake and exhaust sounds, and it's just lovely.
Great review as usual!
When the nd came out it was as fast if not faster than the 86/brz. So it’s definitely gonna walk them now. The looks definitely grew on me over time too. I liked it when it came out but now I think it looks great. I lmao when I saw you were bumping back street boys in a mx5 though.
What state are you driving around in that there's so little traffic? If you bought the 2019 would you chosse the blue with the kid leather interior?
Fit the BBR kit for a useful boost in torque and power to elevate this car from great to amazing.
You will always be subaruwrxfan to me forever
You missed the CD player? I haven't bought a CD since 2009!
So a year later did you buy a new mx-5???
Matt is a great auto reviewer. Some day I will buy a Miata.
Huh ??? Only 60. Lol.
Just picked one up. Pure joy.
使い勝手も細かく説明されて分かりやすいです。良い車ですね!
Thanks for the nice review. Love that car!
