    Great Video! Some good updates from Canon. But it blows my mind how we continue to ask for custom Anamorphic desqueeze and no one at Canon will listen or respond. 1.3, 1.8, and 2.0 but not 1.5?! 😑

    • @ChuckRiseUp
      @ChuckRiseUp Год назад +7

      Personally, I never rely on a small camera screen for anamorphic desqueeze. IMO, the view you get on these small screen is way too narrow and makes it difficult to frame and to focus. I prefer using an external monitor, like my SmallHD Indie 7 that has all the desqueeze options available, all the exposure tools and also...a much bigger screen.

      @costinvaly1 Год назад

      @@SamMasghatiI don’t think you understand what shutter angle is. It’s measured in degrees not in the usual shutter speed values. Even non-shutter-angle cameras can get rid of the flicker if you go below double-the-frame-rate rule but that doesn’t mean those said camera have shutter angle just because they get rid of the flicker in certain shutter speeds. If your shutter speed isn’t measured in degrees then it doesn’t have shutter angle, it’s just that simple.

  • @jdpst20
    @jdpst20 Год назад +6

    I replaced my Fuji XT3 with the R5C and I'm just so in love with the camera. I shoot photo and video and the biggest update for me was the speed of switching modes. I mainly use the camera for travel and documenting my 11 month old as sort of a modern "Camcorder" with photo and video. I had a feeling Canon would address the switch time so that didn't scare me away from the camera in the beginning. I've had it for about 6 months and really enjoy the camera. It's for sure OVERKILL for my needs but I wanted something I can "grow" into and use it for some small paid gigs here and there if I want. The IQ is amazing I think and I wanted it over the R5 mainly because of the video tools that are not included in the R5 ie. waveforms, vector scopes, ect. and some others to just name a few. I currently only use the camera with the 24-105mm F4, and the 50mm 1.8 and honestly its a great combination. The lens IS is plenty for what I need it for and even the digital IS is fine when I need a bit of stability for the 50mm.
    I would consider adding a 100-500mm lens and maybe the 135mm and honestly call it a day. The 24-105 F4 does have some low light limitations and having to bump up to 3200 iso for video but if I'm shooting at 24p and 50 shutter it's not that bad.
    I can see myself keeping this camera for a very long time, I just hope Canon keeps up with the firmware and doesn't treat it like the 1DXc.

    It's interesting that you guys seem to think that WideDR is a middle ground between Canon709 and Log as well as handling highlights better. For me, Canon709 fixes most of my problems with using WideDR. First, WideDR always had a problem with really noisy shadows due to slightly lifting the black levels. WideDR gave the appearance that useable detail was being maintained in the shadows while shooting, but when you got home and looked at the footage you would realize it was a noise mess. Canon709 drops the shadows enough to crush out some of that noise. Second, when using a WideDR LUT for log footage, the LUT would actually clip all of the highlights when using FCPX. The CMT709 LUT doesn't do this. In addition, it is easier to work with and monitor footage that doesn't push over 100 IRE. Interestingly, Canon709 is very similar to a modified WideDR that I used to use on my Canon C100, so I'm thinking that other videographers were giving Canon the same feedback and they finally updated the original WideDR to Canon709 based on the suggested adjustments. I'm at the point where I would be more than happy to use Canon709 instead of Clog3 for most of my work.

    • @udy0243
      @udy0243 Год назад

      I always shoot WideDR (until now) with Half stop to one stop over exposed and bringing it down later in the post that clears shadow ( also i enable noise reduction within camera- it does a great job). However, my grip of WideDR is about highlights roll off…

      A log gamma is intended to provide more than 10 stops of dynamic range when recording in a 10 bit capture file. The sensor of the R5C doesn't provide as wide a dynamic range as that of the C70 (although it does provide greater picture clarity). Clog2 records a greater range than the R5C provides; and consequently you would be throwing away information by squashing it into fewer bits as compared to Clog3 which would better spread the information over the 10 recording bits.

    • @brandonbrodie4547
      @brandonbrodie4547 Год назад

      @@KeithSklower I do agree and fully understand (I own both the c70 and r5c) but Canon still should provide Clog 2 for the R5C. Give us the ability to make that decision for ourselves like Sony gives you Slog 3 in cameras that only shoot 8 bit and the sensor obviously can't handle it. I do agree that the R5C may not be able to take full advantage of clog 2 but for example, sensors on the R3 sure can yet it does not have an option for clog 2 in 4k modes.

      I own both camera's and here's my 2 cents: I kinda hate the R5c and it's mostly from the form factor and ultra high resolution sensor. My biggest complaint is that I get a realistically 30min of use out of a standard canon battery which makes the camera unusable if you're on a set. You almost have to rig the camera up to vmount or a similar battery. Secondly, you have to use micro HDMI, which is awful. Lastly, 8k is unnecessary in most of my work and it's resource hungry for something a lot of people don't use. It's way sharper than the FX3, but I'm not a fan of overly sharp images anyway. Last, lastly, RF glass is not as common as emount and is crazy expensive in comparison. I much prefer my sony cameras in almost every way. My only complaints about the FX3 is the plastic-y skin look that it produces and the canon has better menus.
