Great info Danny!! I just order this cover as the original is marking its spot on my garage floor as we speak ! Your going to make me a Cobra mechanic soon enough with all your videos!! Thank you Sir!!
This was a great side by side comparison thanks! I purchased one of these FR diff covers but haven’t gotten around to installing it yet. Enjoyed the vid!
Upgrading to the IRS FRP upgraded Diff cover. Your videos for removal/install/fill are phenomenal. I realized I had a leaking diff seal on the passenger side and bought new bearing seals to stop the leak. Am worried I could damage these seals when installing and still wind up with a leak. Do you have any advice on installing these seals into the Differential?
The seal is new the mechanic put Valvoine synpower 75 140 with FM he said he used motercraft when i went in and i did not know of the change until it was done. the car is a 2003 svt cobra, irs , and i always use mototcraft products just wanted to get the ford recomended oil and modifer in it . ????
That should be just fine. I used royal purple 75w140 with Ford FM and ford previously used 75w90 for years and was just fine. I have that in My mach 1. As long as it’s th me correct weight (or either of the two listed above) it should be fine
My 03 has a small rubber tube on the cover near the top of it. I noticed a fluid leak on the floor of my garage so I put it on ramps. Noticed there was some leakage on the new cover and seems like it was coming out that rubber tube. So I got it on a lift and we opened the drain plug and it poured out. Was told by my cobra guy that it was probably overfilled by the previous owner when the new cover was installed. Thoughts?
Yes, sounds like it was over-filled and then was coming out the vent tube because of being over-pressurized. You’ll see it all in this video ruclips.net/video/3UZBL9UD74A/видео.html
Gerald Sanders Yes, you can fill it before install as long as you keep it level. I also filled my solid rear axle before lifting it back on. Both can be filled. The half shafts simply slide back in the way they came out (I’ll give you a link to how I removed them). They come in and out similar to a drive shaft. ruclips.net/video/1ipKYUiHM4U/видео.html
In this case the seal was already leaking and needed to be re-sealed. I also tried siphoning it on a different differential and its hard to get a tube to do a 90 degree bend and still function. You also wake scoop any metal shavings out that are in it
Do you think it's worth getting the Ford Racing diff cover from FTBR that's milled for the lowering mount. They say in order to correct the drive line angle to reduce drive line vibration you gotta lower the diff a bit and use the lowering mount which requires some milling on the cover. They have one already milled.
Ikram Nanlawala Yes, if you plan on going with their components. If you’re only doing a stock replacement cover like I did because it’s leaking, then no. I don’t have any vibration that needs correction
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage I plan on going with their entire kit eventually. Not right off the bat. I do notice some vibration but only after I installed louder pipes...
@@dannyjohnsonsgarage so the only reason I'm not doing the bushings at the same time is because I don't want to drop the entire irs. Also my diff seems to have a very small leak, or maybe I'm just imagining this leak but I was planning to do a fluid change and reseal the diff so I figured might as well change to a better cover.
I found this Mach 1 for parts only & I was wondering what’s all parts I need off the Mach 1 to make the shaker work on my my 01 gt other than the custom bracket.
James Geterr Yeah, the brackets will be the hard part. If you have the hood and shaker system you’re almost there. The air box where the shaker connects to the intake is different than the gt, so you’d have to get creative if you want it to be a real working shaker
Hey Danny I had some questions I had a diff cover job done on my 04 cobra and I’m have issues. Is there a way to contact you via phone? And would you be able to except a phone call?

Mark D-man I’m glad you’re enjoying the videos 👍🏼
Just got mine today. Thanks for the video. I’ll be watching more of the other vids as I install mine

Unfortunately I haven’t done IRS seals, only on the SRA. Hopefully you can find some good info on it

Newer 8.8 rear ends(2012ish and up) have changed to 75w140 too, through a Ford TSB. These look worth the money, whether solid or IRS rear end.

Awesome content Danny! thank you for sharing the knowledge bud!!
You got it. More to come. Stay subscribed 😉
Great comparison video Danny. Do you have a link for a cooler install video on these cars? Thanks
Can you refill the differential before installing it back on the car? Also how do the half shafts go back in?

Great video ..
it’s a must for track racing right ?
It’s definitely a stronger piece
How to replace differential for cobla 1
So what is the stock differential fluid that comes from The factory on an 03 04 cobra 75W 90or75W 140
Steve Kostura It has 75w140 on the tag on the differential. That’s on my 2004 at least
Ford Detroit teck support told me 75w140 with 4 oz of FM for 03@@dannyjohnsonsgarage
why not use a sucton to remove oil instead of breaking seal on diff ?

Ikram Nanlawala Yeah, you see how much of a pain installing the cover is, so do it once with the ftbr one lol

Nice video, thank you for instructional videos.
Thanks Yanny. I still need to give you a proper shoutout for your support. :)
