    Bruce is the man for sure. A lifetime of experience has no rival. His lighting lectures have taught me, so much. Of course I had to watch them several times, I'm an idiot, but when you start to understand, it's hard to stop wanting to know more. In this video he discusses a lot about hydro and how much of this and not too much of that, really confuses a guy without that experience or time to do trial and error. I just wanted to add that for me, I do know that plants have been on this planet for millions of years. They know what to do. All they need is the right building blocks found in organic soil. Keep your soil fully alive and they will do the rest. Without measuring PH, without measuring fake nutrients, without trial and error. Feed the soil biology natural nutrients and minerals and your plants will flourish. And remember...the best fertilizer, is the farmers shadow. Thanks for all you've done and do Bruce.

    1:05:33 so what was the take away regarding Nitrogen in the flower phase? Does it lower the yield or not? I couldn’t get a straight answer.

    • @Barbarossa485
      @Barbarossa485 Год назад

      How to lower ? Nitrogen is main macronutrient, all other elements are not needed in that amount. The number that you see on bottles in flowering are not with lower N , those are ratios they just pump unnecessary P and K so they can sell you another bottle .
      Multiple studies shown more N bigger yield , more yield bigger mass and less concentrated secondary metabolism ( canabinoids and terpens ) , 150 N ppm is golden spot where u match production and quality. Most companies are in those range , Athena is running 150ppm N too in their formula

    Woah.. what's that about Calcium and Botrytis? Considering other studies have shown Ca to hinder bud growth and quality.

    • @odaharry
      @odaharry Год назад

      Calcium is needed more to grow stems and leaves. You wanna grow buds in flower so not making it put effort into up taking calcium should let it use that energy towards bud growth . So I could see having less calcium as a benefit in flower when it need more magnesium n not calcium. There’s gotta be proof of this somewhere

    • @superkillr

      @@odaharry The only information I have is an article by Jennifer Martin for Maximum Yield.

    • @sixmillionsilencedaccounts3517
      @sixmillionsilencedaccounts3517 Год назад +1

      @@odaharryCalcium is the main component needed to make pectin which is a glue that connects cell walls. You need Calcium unless you want to argue that plants don't increase biomass weight during flowering which they do a lot.
      Considering Botrytis the only way to prevent it is controlled environment (humidity, VPD, air circulation) or chemical fungicide. Organic fungicides just don't work. You need quality fungicide that is systemic since Botrytis is a systemic disease, it attacks the plant from within the buds. Systemic fungicide enters the plant tissue and spreads inside the entire plant even in the new shoots. Can't be washed off after 1-2 few hours after application. Organics can't do that. It only kills spores that are outside on the leaves/buds but spores are everywhere in the air, it won't do much after it dries out. Once a spore enters the plant (via damaged parts of the leaves) it travels through the stem and tries to find spots with the best condition = humidity (big colas), than you're screwed.
      If you want to go chemical I recommend Switch (from Swiss company Syngenta), it's probably the most effective fungicide out there designed specifically for Botrytis. It's certified as very safe (last application 3-10 days before harvest) and it's used in the US, Australia or New Zeland.

    always interesting and informative videos, but I honestly don't understand this obstinacy in stating that HPS heat up more than LEDs...
    A properly made HPS setup always includes the cooltube, which being directly connected to the air extraction, takes the hot air produced by the lamp out of the growroom instantly, on the contrary LEDs even if they heat up less, the hot air produced will remain in the growroom causing the total temperature to increase.
    With the cooltube and a hps600w you can bring the plants even 10cm from the glass without them getting burned.
    It seems to me that this issue of temperature is just a marketing ploy created 20 years ago by manufacturers to sell the new product, given the extremely higher costs of LEDs compared to HPS, but the yield, arguably, is hardly equal to HPS at the same wattage...

    • @johnborton4522
      @johnborton4522 Месяц назад +1

      //"I honestly don't understand this obstinacy in stating that HPS heat up more than LEDs..."//
      Here, I'll help you understand -- you're not comparing apples to apples -- you're comparing an actively cooled HPS to a passively cooled LED. If you want apples to apples, compare an Agnetix (or other) externally cooled LED to your cooltube HPS.
      It's a simple fact of physics that HPS lights produce dramatically more waste heat than does an LED (for a given PPF output). This waste heat is just money down the drain.
      //"but the yield, arguably, is hardly equal to HPS at the same wattage..."//
      You can argue with yourself if you wish, but my ~650w LEDs produce on average slightly more than my 1,000s - 1,100w Gavita HPS lights ever did (and I've used literally hundreds of them commercially). The power savings are dramatic and real so rather than argue, I'll just continue to use them. I changed out my last HPS for LED some years ago and would be dumb to go backwards. I'm not dumb.

      No matter you're preference, your ppm reading is literally taking an e.c. reading and doing math conversion to give you ppms. No matter what you, are refering to your e.c. when you say ppm.

    Love the info Bruce puts out but the issue is his information will always be based off studies. Obviously this is good when the studies are correct but studies always seem to contradict each other years down the line. The proof is in the pudding, he needs to do some high THC cannabis grows and test out his methods and show he can produce the best. Now I'm not saying at all he's claiming he can produce the best cannabis, but it would great to see if science based methods can beat people learning through trial and error. There's some things people do with their plants that can help but hasn't yet been studied, some people won't rely on a study when they've grown for decades and proven a method to themselves. A lot of information and openness lacking in the cannabis community. The best growers safe guard certain things, and the open science based guys miss out on the experience and things learned through trial and error whilst trying to grow quality cannabis. If these worlds could combine you'd make the most awesome grow bible ever.
