Warlords of Tripoli (Part 4/5)

- The war in Syria is dragging neighbouring Lebanon to the edge of the abyss, and nowhere is the growing chaos starker than in the second city of Tripoli. Sunni militants aligned with the Syrian rebels frequently clash with fighters from the city's encircled Alawite minority, who support the Assad regime, in bitter street fighting the country's weak government is powerless to stop. With the rule of law no longer in effect in Tripoli, warlords like Sunni commander Ziad Allouki are now the city's real rulers, so VICE hung out with him and his fighters for a week to discover why they're fighting, and whether the country really is on the brink of civil war.

WATCH NEXT: From poaching endangered shellfish to smoking quaaludes, this is the wild origin story of how meth took over South Africa. - ruclips.net/video/ihlP8xjN9zg/видео.html
So when this guy goes to hang out with the Sunni's they're obnoxiously flaunting their guns and even children are popping off rounds at the sky in celebratory fire in the middle of the city and displaying generally horrendous discipline with their weapons. He talks to some Alawites and they are too busy finding extra cinder blocks to reinforce their walls so their children aren't sent to an early grave, and they speak of reason and co-existence with their other Arab brothers.
That is how it is in this video, but both the Sunnis and the Alawites are much, much larger groups than just this street.
I love their trigger discipline! Especially when that guy in part 1 jokingly put a gun to somebody's head!
@@AsemSaleh kol5ara ya nosayri
@@AsemSaleh typical nosayri shithole
Well done !! Very well said and that is the truth! This video shows the difference between both. Alawites completely different and care about staying well not hurting others… good documentary
For some reason i feel that the Alawites and the Shia faction are more logical and understanding than the Sunni faction.
Their acting skills clearly outperform the other party's skills.
Spathius you are right from the look of it.. when you see soldiers of the Syrian army when they fight they communicate and talk very professional while the rebels group aka terrorist scream out nothing but nonsense " Allah Akbar" every second. The Alawites are moderate while the other tribes are more extremist. Dont listen to James Watson how the hell can anyone tries to act innocent when the evidence is so clear they are getting shoot at every day.. clearly we know who the aggressor of this conflict are.. The extremist when they open their mouth all they talk is God and commit in suicide bombing.
No they are not
80% of Muslims are sunnis
If sunnis were fucked up the whole word would be fucked up
Sunnis make the majority in syria and they are oppressed by Iran militias and Bashar because he didn't step out while the alawites control all the army and the state
Syrians just want to choose who to rule them
Because of Bashar millions of Syrians fled the country
Aboslutely not. They insult the prohpet and his companions and are barbaric. They transgress all bounds.
@@baba9665 You generalize too much.
great mini series guys! great job!
Man this is some crazy stuff, can't wait to see part 5
Awesome to see the view of both sides. I really feel sorry for the children growing up there, they shouldn't be exposed to this violence.
SERIOUSLY this is the best international news channel ive come across keep it up dude
What a crazy conflict! Excellent reporting, Vice. I really like this reporter.
These are so good.
Nice vid vice
During the first 3 videos I've been hoping that they'd go over to the other side and show their views as well, I'm really happy that they actually did that. Most of the documentaries about this conflict show only the side of the syrian rebels and their supporters. It must have been difficult though, to make sure the other side doesn't hear you're reporting the enemy's story as well. Imagine if the Sunni commander had suddenly seen them standing on the other side! This was a very dangerous move, but it makes the story so much more interesting.
this side looks more sensible .........hope both side got sudden burst of wisdom and they stop fighting
*****
Or bomb your' own mosque so you look like the the great protectors and give all the more reason for people to join the cause. The entire fight is senseless, it's just the opportunists orchestrating the conflict trying to get their way. sort of like school bullies with guns.
maybe they bombed there own mosque or other way around i guess this fight will go to eternity if both the sides didnt come to the table and discuss peace...Looking at the poster of saddam and assad it does not seen like labenon internal affair. Saudi, syria, hazbullah,al qaeda all involved should some how talk the way outta it....otherwise there is no end
jonas black
Well put. I wasn't saying either side bombed themselves as if it was absolute fact, I was just trying to show the counter logic to the guy that tried to speak as if he knows everything happening in this conflict because he watched the same series of 5 minute videos or because he knows "that part of the world".
Oh well I live in the USA so I guess I know everything about Canada too.
@@mauser7mm You are literally a communist. No one cares.
It's not the 'black flag of Islamism', it's the flag of al Qaeda.
It's possible he couldn't say that in the street of the opposing sect when it's roughly the same in English and Arabic, might cause some problems.
it is actually the flag of islam
It's the Black Standard, an Islamic flag flown by Muhammad that was recuperated by Islamist extremist organizations such as al-Qaeda in the late 90's. It's now more a symbol associated with Political Islam (Islamism) than with the Muslim faith.
Piscopamipé how the fuck do you know. were you there?
Ben A I was not there, no. The answer is: books.
Thanks alot for this VICE ! i love your documentaries and your courage to go in the warzone's and show the people of the world what is really going on !
Inshala one day Sunni and Shai will be one !
ta7iya Maser wel 3alam el 3araby !
yay the other point of view!
Maybe they should use grenades instead of guns, then the "war" would end much faster.
Maybe you should refrain from commenting.
maybe i should get a gf too
wowfreakstar
i feel sorry for your future gf
lol
wowfreakstar i think ur cool
out fuckin standing report
Why would you dislike this?
Because you don't like muslims, because you don't like war?
Vice clearly put alot of effort and resources into making these documentaries, that are very high risk and it's important people are educated about foreign affairs especially as western governments have a habit of getting involved...
After watching the whole documentary, I feel like the Sunni side has been a lot more aggressive than the Alawite side and that the Alawite side is simply trying to live rather than fight; contrary to the Sunnis. Thoughts?
It has been always like this, when y have arms and number advantage y simply suppress the other
@@X.N.M big lie in syria minority alewites with the help of russians and iranians and shia militias from the whole region massacred 3million sunni-muslims in syria eventhough sunnis are the majority like 85% of syria
Just to clarify, this documentary was about Tripoli, Lebanon, not Tripoli, the capital of Libya, right?
I wonder if the reporters have o learn the language, or if their is a translator with them??
I am just curious.Does the journalist Aris speak Arabic? I havent heard him throughout the filming sayin a word in Arabic, yet he keeps knotting his head while the guy is talking as if he understands. Arrifit shou?
so where is part 5?
Is this a promotional video for Adidas?
Victory will go to sunni's all over the World
It's good that you covered both sides of the conflit. It's just too bad you didn't do the same for the Israeli conflict with the Palestiniens.
Fuck i took a look at the comment section in a vice documentary again...
This guys seems a lot more promising than all the al Qaeda you interviewed
this is like game of thrones for men, can't wait for the next episode!
There is one thing in this which seems to sum up why they're fighting and which I find incredibly sad: "But their way is different". People are killing and being killed for that.
It's pathetic on people fight over pointless things. Peace is a lost cause.
What a wise chum, why would anyone fight over pointless stuff?
*****
The civil war and what Syria is fighting about were fought over two different things. The civil war was mainly fought because the North wanted the South back. The Civil Rights movement was way less violent (most of it wasn't violent at all, but there was violence towards them but by no means comparable to the violence in syria) than Syria. If you honestly think the current gay marriage situation is comparable to the fighting in Syria then please elaborate as to how, because I don't follow.
Ever think everything around you is exactly opposite of what it should be ?
lol the kid at 1:18 on the moped
This explains the daily shootings in western sydney pretty well
Yes I’m Lebanese and those gang shooting are because of family beef with other families and it’s very stupid and embarrassing for all of us 😅😅😅
This Just proves Bashar Al Assad and the Syrian Army are fighting the GOOD fight!!! God Bless the Syrian Army and Bashar Al Assad!
lol idiot
tell this to the people of aleppo who are living every day under the terror of Assad's retarded barrel bombs and they will spit on your face.
said no humanitarian worker or civilian immigrant ever.
Yep that why Assad is starving the palestinian and syrian civilians in damascus. That why Assad is dropping barrel bombs on daraya and aleppo, killing more than 800 civilians. Assad is good, keep believing your lies
extremestick Before this all started Syria never had problems and the majority of the people were living happy. Syria was a beautiful country in the hands of Bashar Al Assad. Stop believing the lies people.
idk why but feels like everyone has their own view and just going by others just so they can get closer to theirs and not care about other things.
did adidas sponsor this?
Guys there is Tripoli-Libya and Tripoli-Lebanon FYI
away with all this conflict. why cant we all just agree to disagree and live in harmony
They all know the power of media!
Wake up people. We need to learn to love each other now. War solves nothing. Stop participating and encouraging violence. Talk to each other calmly.
These people might as well abandon that damned bullet-riddled place and move elsewhere and leave this conflict behind.
posters are interesting... all the crazy shit around and advertising going on at the same time
What a fucking mess.
The religios Differences between Alawites and Sunnis. Quran teaches not to pray or seek help from other than Allah(GOD) this is the only sin you can't be forgiven. Sunnis pray and seek help only from Allah while the Awaits seeks help from others then Allah (Dead people). I myself used to seek help from other than Allah But after some knowledge from Quran I stopped. A martyr is the one who dies in the sake of Allah not Bashar. THIS IS NOT A HATE MESSAGE.
I suppose you mean by '' dead people '' al Imam Ali...
BULLSHIT.
Aaaaaannd.... Another ignorant.
Seperta Zen Congratulations: You won the internet.
DUK3NUK3M1 no he didn't. I wish I could slap both of you.
Does understand Arabic? They're always talking to him directly without an interpreter.
sad to say but this is not the last of wars. man bring itself to its own doom rage
Both sides considered each other terrorists for thousands of years, who started all of these?
Is this Tripoli,Libya or Tripoli,Lebanon
Lebanon
Thank God I Iive in America
thank god i live in europe
tbh id rather live in a society where people appreciate what they have than to just consume and consume and consume endlessly like zombies, like in America. Westerners are so materialistic.
Notice the guy with a black "EXTREMIST" long sleeve at like 0:40
Ha.
What a mess, luckily i live in the mountains of lebanon and not there
Ultimately the Syrian backed fighters will loose because the world won't let Syria win.
Is Adidas sponsor these people? Seems like all of the middle easy is sporting Adidas gear.
Half these people wear Adidas, the other half Ralph Lauren.
I think this should be the next issue they shoot each other over
Ight I'm confused sunni Muslims have been portrayed as peaceful Muslims and are the only ones cape able to get rid of Isis though it's also been shown why Sunni refuse to fight against Isis because Isis saved them from a poor corrupted government so my question is WHO IS THE ENEMY?? They all say they have different beliefs but who is the real enemy.
Please no racism in replying to this.
Brother the sunnis been living in bab al tabaneh for hundres of years where the alawis where out there by the Syrian regime to topple the city look into the 1980 war in Tripoli Sunni living peacefully until Syria came in and occupied them for 30 years
YES love this series so much
Vice IS youtube
LOL hilarious! He compared Bashar Al Asad to Gamal Abdelnasser
The enlightened man does not rush into problems but rushes for solutions.
I swear to god tripoli is in Libya not Syria
Lol did you notice that all the opposite (enemy) flags are completely fine and clean although all the building are destroyed lol nice show they did back there
what i am worried about is. what if informations reached that he was with the other side a few days ago?
Long life pan-arab nationalism. may Allah help Bashar and the Syrian Arab Army fighting against terrorists.
We are brothers and i love alewites and i am sunni.
***** Still going strong! Mursi got kicked out too, people do not want sharia but liberty, unity and socialism.
*****
I'm on the side who is against polarisation, sectarism and religious fanatacism. And to be realistic Syria is so fucked up taking away to only stable factor in the country would be a disastor for the Syrian people and the neighbouring countries.
Let's hope the Syrian Arab Army regains full control like the Algerian Army did once against terrorists.
*****
And the majoriety of the Syrian Arab Army is sunni. So you know stop believing this media and takafiri's who are promoting hatred fueled by the Saudi's and Qatar.

“Until now, the majority of the Syrian army (around 60%) are Sunni.”
Speak with facts or remain silent.
Lol Bashar is a puppet for Iran
How can you be an Arab nationalist when you sold the country to Iran
0:15 the pope pictured on the upper left corner of the sign !!
Is there a good and a bad guy in this conflict?
I wish it was as easy as that...
There are security( agencies) in the country, and these two regions are waging a proxy war on behalf ,and slogans that motivate people must, of course, be present.
Both sides in this conflict are pretty shitty... But listening to the man in the white at the start of this segment, he seems at least a LITTLE bit more rational and better spoken than the Sunni leaders. Not saying the Alawites are right, but they appear to be at least a little less reckless and ignorant.
Woah! The first Western journalist to call that black flag as 'the flag of Islamism" and not as "al Qaeda's flag"
You have my respect
1000 parts ffs just do 1 part and stop thinking about money
real life CS
two sects fighting for never ending revenge.
And mufaking part 5...what the fuck
Mississippi in 300 years.
Who are the bad guys? I know Assad used chemical warfare on his people, but I also know that the rebels are not as good as people think, and now there are other groups that I didn't know where there. Who come's out as the good guys in this mess?
how do you know he was the one using chemical weapons? and why would he use it on his people? just a thought.
Forget chemicals go see what he did for 30 years in lebanon occupying it tortured rapping killing all of Lebanese ppls. There’s a huge reason why Lebanese ppls HATE Syrian regime the Assad family are the worse in the world. Look what they do in sydnaya prison.
Lebanon
this would not be happening if khadaffi was still in power
This is Tripoli of Lebanon, not Tripoli of Libya. Although I agree that post-Qddafi era is much worse.
these guys need to settle their differences
Tripoli is in libiya so how u shoot in Syria with the name of Tripoli 🤔
so sunni supports al qaeda and FSA and alwates suport regeme from Assad
Yup and the ones assad is fighting in syria are al qaeda and jabhat al nura ... I really cant blame him
alwates also support hezbulla
TheSnobar So FSA are not involved in the conflict or...
Y
i am thinking that FSA is with sunni.
Oho159 Y Well thats the sad thing, i feel bad for the FSA First they were doing there thing (They were doing there think trying to get "Freedom" with weapons) then al qaeda and jabhat al nusra came , some (from the FSA ) joined them (Qaeda) some gave up and some are fighting both sides the government and the terrorists xD
Both sides are seeking power, it's not about religion -_-
Tripoli ?????????
🇱🇧 or 🇱🇾
& the people talk 🇸🇾 😂
Arabism > islamism.
modern day Hatfield and McCoy's going on just let them go at it with heavier guns so at least it goes through the whole building other wise just stop your fighting and agree to disagree
*the alawaites seem smarter-like he said "the conflict is purely political not religious"*
Rational people like this guy in the white sports jacket, need the be the voices of reason heard in such times and region, but as usual people don't. Any any issue major to small, here in this country and around the globe- people always fall for the loud mouth, the sophist smooth talkers, the emotional and the promoters of false grandeur.

Shame on you Vice: Showing Sunni street fighters handling heavy weapons during the celebrations of Eid al-Adha when sheep are slaughtered for communal feasting and kids play with pellet guns (the very embodiment of violence). Showing civilian 'Alawis with no gun in sight (peaceful minority). It's almost comical.
The wst is the warlord in Tripoli and in the world u will only know that if u have traveled
Shit.
SUPPORT ASSAD
So if I have to pick a side, I can either choose Al Qaeda, or the Syrian government? From what I see picking a side is a lose-lose situation.
my nephew's nickname is Muhsin
I wish Assad can help this levanese Alawites and Christians
Big layer. ..Al they killed at Syria while they fitghing the civilian.
The aliwates acting innocents as always...
Lol good god you know what’s up. 90% of the comments supporting them lol only if they knew there snaky way. Aliwates occupied Tripoli for 30 years killing kidnapping torturing the ppls of Tripoli. So off course it’s gonna build hate in the hearts of the ppls living in Tripoli.
Wow my hole view changed after seeing this part, that's how media should be. Always showing the two sides.
