Thanks for your insights, mate. To me, the failure of 2024 comes down to one major thing- the injury of griffin Logue. Because of north’s lack of defensive depth, they were particularly dependent upon him to play that key position, such that when he went down it had a domino effect. It forced corr to play outside his weight category and he was unfairly maligned when he battled against the likes of a curnow etc. it forced us to drop Comben back and, while he was strong at times, he was actually dominated as a contested mark. his major potential value was in drawing attention from larkey as a forward and to bring the ball to ground for the Paul Curtiss and the fords, so for this reason both the defensive and attacking aspects were badly damaged. All of our forwards’ outputs were down on the back of this. It forced us to bring in pink and Teakle who were serviceable at times but would struggle to get a game elsewhere, and this is turn limited opportunity for the new draftees who need time- the other ward dude, and the bloke from WA whatever his name is. It’s impossible to blame anyone for this- but north badly needs a second key position defensive option. Comben is not it. As good as he is.
@@MrDanbarbs yeah really interesting analysis! There is no doubt that the Logue injury has significant flow on impacts all over the ground this year. I think the bigger problem is that one player going down can be that bad. It speaks to a wider issue with the list...it will be fascinating to see what the structure of the team looks like with Logue hopefully back to 100% in 2025
