something so amazing about Arcane is not only did they make an absolutely ground breaking TV show, but they couldn't even phone it in when making their behind the scenes videos. honestly Bridging the Rift is probably the best docuseries i've ever seen as well.

Bridging the Rift is bizarrely almost as amazing to watch as the show it's documenting. Also man, they had no clue the absolute obsession they'd create in everyone who watched Arcane.

This documentary is as good as show itself. So inspiring. Peak.

I was not surprised in the least to discover that someone from Lost worked on Arcane. The episodic structure is *extremely* similar, the way that each episode opens with a different character's backstory, which is used to frame the story from that character's perspective and sometimes recontextualize a character's behavior in a more charitable light. Think of how nearly everyone perceives Mel as being coldly manipulative and self-serving up until we meet her mother, or how Silco's flashback explains his unexpected decision to take in Powder at the climax of that episode.

she didn't worked directly on it, she just advised Christian and Alex on how to craft a season for a tv show. But I can see how that advice could include her personal "techniques".

“What is truth but a survivors story” is a line Silco said in ep 5

i love youre reactions, and i also love how they keep everything real and also show the struggle in these episodes.
but also show appriciation for every part of the process, like the writers the animators and so on.

I almost wonder if the CEO's "joke" was conceived of with BTS retelling in mind.

Unfortunately it's more likely to be his actual personality. Riot, along with several other big studios at the time, were one of those at the center of crunch culture and abusive workplace scandals. That CEO specifically, along with the two founders had to confirm stuff publicly along with apologies etc. The details were not pretty. To my knowledge it was over in the main game divisions. I love Arcane, and these BTS episodes, but Arcane's success really came at a good time for the Riot bosses in terms of cleaning up their image.

Yes, there was some shady shit going on at riot. But this thing here wasnt "abusive" or anything

I do remember some of the stories from that period about the workplace culture. It's more the scripted feel than the cruelty per se. But these are not mutually exclusive scenarios...cruelty with a structured setup and payoff is still cruel, just punchier.
