- Neo is Deaf because of Me…
As you know our son was born with severe to profound hearing loss. Since he was born we always wondered about the cause of his hearing loss. So we decided to follow the doctors advice and get genetic testing for the whole family because this can give us better knowledge on why our son was born Deaf. Luckily with technology being so advanced and hearing aids not giving him enough for proper speech and language, we were able to get him cochlear implants. And now he is getting all caught up with his spoken language, and yes he still know ASL / Sign language. Neo: three-years old, knows the sign language, master the alphabet in both sign and verbal language (2.12 to 2.22), do simple math like counting, have the good sense of humor, have the good manner, clearly signifies his both IQ and EQ are above average. He is smart, much smarter than many other boy at his age. He is a polyglot in a way with him mastering sign and verbal language. He is adorable, with him sometimes being cheeky. By and large, i would like to say he is special, and special kids are for special parents.
There is no need to blame anyone genetic wise for it is given. But being aware of it are indeed helpful to enable having the right decisions, responses, and mitigation, but not to find some kind of culprit. There is no cpijcidence in life, things happen for reasons, whatever the reasons just trust they are good reasons.
As for Abella re cancer carrier, from a very personal point of view, i would say take it easy, be in peace with it, and adopt a healthy life style, such as go organic, natural and stay from junk food, and...stay away from stress. The junk food thing...tbh.. sometimes i can't help the temptation...but once in a blue moon should be ok.
So, Niko and Chrysthal, if i may offer any magic phrase, it would be: "don't worry, be happy, stay healthy and enjoy your life."

I work with Deaf children, supporting them in a mainstream primary school. It makes me so happy to see how you are constantly giving Neo oral and signing input. You make learning fun for him and in each video, I can see how much he is developing. You are incredible parents and an amazing family (including his fantastically supporting and encouraging sister) who are doing everything you can to raise a confident boy who's deafness will just be a part of him and not hold him back. Your children are very lucky!

I am a mom of 2 profoundly deaf children now adults age 24 & 31. I had all the same questions and doubts you have, what will the future hold? I can tell you that both of mine are in professional careers & doing great. Yes they’ve had their ups and downs in the hearing world. Having the right support, security & love has helped a lot. You two are doing a great job. Keep questioning keep asking for support, keep the stimulation going. Neo is on the right path to being the super human he is.

I don't know why, I watched the part where Neo was spelling "turtles" at least a hundred times. Its is soo fulfilling to see how smart he is. I am pretty sure he is far ahead ( learning wise ) of so many 3 year olds including the ones who do not require special care. You guys are doing a great job.

As a 22 year old with a rare genetic disease I appreciate you guys sharing this information about genetic testing. Not many ppl know how important it can be in the future. Long story short, turns out that both of my parents are carriers for this genetic disease, and I was the only child in the family that has this disease. Neo’s journey has inspired others that are dealing with their chronic illnesses and I look up to you guys every single day. God bless you all❤
Moms always have that feeling of guilt so im glad Niko had them instead. Neos life is going to be harder because he is deaf but its also going to be an amazing ride that we get to be a part of 💙💙. Seeing how much he has grown is amazing amd can't wait to see what he does with his life 🎉🎉

I went to school with two students whose parents were deaf and they were hearing students. This is a journey we always had a great time with their parents and would never speak negatively and the community was always really inclusive and supportive. I never thought anything of it growing up at all. Never gave it a thought honestly. I hope you just continue to celebrate your family your life and your journey together. .

I must say first, Neo is an amazing beautiful Little boy because of both of you. Now I have many in fact all the genetic medical issues from both my mothers and fathers side. Plus I’m a des daughter which comes with more. I’m one of 7 and I’m the only one with all the diseases. With all that being said, I am so blessed! I have a great family, friends and life. I’m so thankful for the beauty of living I try not to think about the pain of it. ultimately God is in control and everything happens for a reason. Please don’t have guilt or sadness over this genetic test as Neo won’t care, he will be too fulfilled living his beautiful life! I love you all and wish you many many blessings

Omg guys this is so scary now I feel like I need to get me and my kids tested to see bc one of them had a blood clot a little to close to her brain and she was put into (she was 5 btw) the icu and almost died. You guys have opened up so many new gates in my life and I can’t wait to see you guys for as a family

at the end when she said it is hard when people hearing loss and special needs kids i was like. oh that how my mom feels like with my special needs brother? and she's been stressing alot because no one helps her out my dad doesn't even care my another big brother he just plays games all day and doesn't even care and i;m trying to help but i can'y because i'm 9 years old but i try and try and she keeps crying and crying and i need a new dad :( but my brother only helps when my mom is working and out of town trying her best to make me happy for my birthday. so my life and my moms life is really hard:(

Hi! Commenting bc I work as a SLPA, and was teaching basic sign to children with language delays, Autism, & etc. Neo’s doing wonderful! You all placing him in a school that will help stimulate & increase his speech production. While helping him learn ASL to communicate is the best thing as parents you all can do! Props, to you all! From watching these videos his speech is getting a lot clearer and putting sounds, syllables, and eventually phasers that will turn into sentences together. He seems to have a lot of positive encouragement, so trust me when I say he’s going to be just fine!!! And I can tell from tasks from therapy are continuously carried over, which will further enhance his development. I want to say by age 6, he’ll be interacting so much! As long as you all continue to foster his growth he he’s gonna do great. I know it can be extremely hard on parents that have children with any form of disability, but I strongly hope you all can take some time away for just you all. It will only help strengthen your connection & show up even more for your kiddos. Even marriage counseling is a great avenue to discover that can help guide you all & serve as support when decisions get hard. You all got this!! ❤✨✨

Guys, I’m deaf since 5 years old so it been 13 year since I’m deaf. So the doctor still have no idea why and how I’m deaf because non of the family are deaf... so yeah lol

First off, I love your videos and you both are doing a phenomenal job as parents!! Genetic testing is a powerful tool and incredibly helpful!
The Col9A2 gene codes for one of the three alpha chains on type 9 collagen... If there is a mutation of this gene, it could impact cartilage and bone development. This gene is usually associated with multiple epiphyseal dysplasia (malgrowth of ends of long bones). However, if this gene is maternally imprinted then it may not affect the child if the paternal copy is expressed. So, I would ask your genetic counselor about this.Also, ask about and look into the inheritance pattern of all the genes mentioned to see how your grandchildren can be affected. I would reflect on if there are any other individuals in your family with hearing loss and/or bone developmental/myopathy related struggles.
For the three genes that are carried paternally, the inheritance pattern could be autosomal recessive which is signified by the manifestation of your affected child w/o affecting carrier/parent (in this case, dad). If this is true then, it is possible that your grandchildren may not be affected but double check with your genetic team about this and the possibility of Col9A2 being imprinted.
I would also recommend that you talk to your primary provider/doctor about presbycusis chances and sensorineural hearing loss.

His cochlears are a device that's helpful but that does not change the fact that he's deaf. It's an accessory, just like someone who can't walk using a wheelchair

Yes he's real Deaf but if wear cochlear, only can be work for him to able heard it. But once of all he is full Deaf when take off cochlear. Ok. Depend on deaf people use cochlear or hearing aids can help them heard well. Not all the same. Okay. He's Deaf period. 😊

It's doesn't mean that he/she speaks so not deaf you guys didn't understand about deaf people. Deaf people can hear with hearing aid or cochlear implant if he/she removed hearing aid or cochlear implant so it's fully deaf and can't hear anything because I am also deaf like neo
