Agreed, been saying this since the announcement, they've created a problem. The Tacoma and greater Toyota secondary market are MASSIVE and everyone will come to realize the lack of value in the Pro. Get a TRD OR, get a custom suspension/long travel if thats what you want, new wheels and 35s, and do some skid plates, bed accessories and maybe some slight engine upgrades and you'll save money but have a more capable truck built exactly how you want it.
I've been a tacoma guy for 30 years I have a 2020 Off road and was going to upgrade this year to the 2024 Off road. I went to the dealer and looked at them I just couldn't after seeing the price for the new one, It's 15,000 plus what I paid for my 2020 thats insane. I will hold on to my 2020 for another year and look at other brands for my upgrade, never thought I would say that so sad.
Dropped by local Toyota dealer after dinner tonight b/c I knew they got a few TRD Off-Roads in. Like most Toyota dealers, actual price never on website and I also wanted to sit inside again, now that I've test driven 2024 Colorado ZR2 ($48k MSRP on model driven). The TRD-Offroad on lot was $47K MSRP only upgrades being steps, mud flaps, and blackout package or something like that. Had base entertainment screen. Dealer asking price $49k and some change. FYI, the dealer I test drove the ZR2 at has $2200 dealer cash right now making that ZR2 $46k. The gap in performance and interior between the two is so much, the TRD Offroad would need to be $44k to even consider against the ZR2 at $48k.
I rented one for 6 days, engine sounds like a small tractor engine but did have plenty of power for everything I did including hauling a load of firewood even with the bed that seemed to bottom out the suspension on every small bump. Gas tank seems small, fill up netted 290-300 mile range @ 21 mpg avg.
There’s a huge market for midzise truck specialy for people that wants nothing to do with the gigantic full size truck.. I’ve seen a couple on the road with their temp plates on.. as far as my local dealership I’ve only seen about 2-3 out in the parking lot. So it depends when or who’s getting them they will eventually sell. It’s a a Toyota and I think they look sharp n great compare to the last gen. . 🤷🏽♂️

Pretty sure they did their research on supply/demand. Pricing is about right. People will still buy these trucks, including the top of the line models. And Toyota will continue pricing them accordingly.
Everyone assumes Toyota corp is over pricing and being greedy . No one takes into account the state of inflation , economy and buying power of dollar ect . If we regular people pay more for things so are people that offer goods or services . At the end of the day there is other options and other midsize manufacturers . Apples to apples models most are expensive in today’s world . If you’re unhappy with Toyota corp msrp pricing then you can buy elsewhere . Also Toyota dealers aren’t Toyota corp . So if they do ridiculous markups then don’t buy and don’t blame Toyota corp .

I would like pretty 95% of that trim build. TRD Off-road, the color, the black trim(I don’t like chrome) The main additions is the iMax engine, a long bed and the Pano roof and the bigger screen.

Im off loading a 2008 TRD sport with 452 K Miles and buying this off road model. My 2008 is still running great but unfortunately some one hit the back trailer hitch and bent frame, so insurance is totaling it. And giving me 16K. really unbelievable resale value. Thats why Im sticking with this great truck.
It's so crazy that this Taco in the states is 68K CAD! I'm picking up a trd off road premium this friday (which is the only way us canadians can get the auto and 5 foot bed) for $61,300 CAD. That's the softex seats, bigger screen, heated cooled seats, etc. all that for 44,800 USD.
I saw that as well. The Canadian market has significantly less models/variations to choose from . Because of that and being cheap. I was going to go with the trd off-road manual to get the 5’ box, locker, suspension upgrade and it only costs 52k

Why buy this when a lariat ranger with the 2.7 ecoboost and the fx4 package cost the same or a bit cheaper? Depending on package you get on these trd off-roads you can kick them up to 56k. This one isn’t terribly priced but this is about the same cost as the xlt fully optioned
Because that is a ford and this is a Toyota. The Ranger will depreciate a lot faster. In the end the Tacoma will be an order of magnitude cheaper because of this fact alone.
I was excited when I was the new tacoma was coming, it is a sharp looking truck. But I would be buying a ZR2, the reasons are obvious. 48,839 plus tax and fees or 49500 plus tax and fees for the Colorado ZR2 and you aren't getting an entry level truck that has a decal on it, cloth seats, weak suspension, ugly wheels… tiny tires and so forth. You would have to spend another 5-7k to get it to the level of a ZR2…and that is just suspension, wheels and tires and not counting dealing with the cloth seats.

And I wish dealers can not be on the meadow of the factory and the costumer, they are like sharks, just to empty the pockets of the costumer with those invention of the packages, should be $ 32 K. But dealers have no respect for costumers.

The electronics are half-baked. Drives ok. Near useless back seat, actually seems to be less room than previous gen. Best all highway I saw was 22mpg.
Here's the total scoop! TOYOTA needs to get in touch with the people that buy TACOMAS and ask "what do you want"? Here's what we want: 1. Reliable quality! So no 4cyc turbo. 2. We want an engine that doesn't look like a hot mess! 3. Hand brake No one asked for an electric one 4. Spend more than 7.00 dollars on the speakers. Offer people just a Audio upgrade for a reasonable amount! 3. No stupid air dam No one is keeping it for a 1 MPG increase at best! You have taken the most loyal fans and have them now looking toward Nissan and the Frontier because it's a V-6 and they have worked very hard to be comparable and they are now better because a V6 always outlasts a Turbo 4.
Worse fuel milage with the smaller engine than the model that it's replacing. I bought my 2016 Off-Road for $35k new. I WAS in the market to upgrade my 3rd gen to the 4th gen.
That was almost 10 years ago. How much was dinner for four 10 years ago? I'm not saying that new trucks aren't expensive, they are. But what isn't. I bought a Tacoma V6 6 speed brand new in 2011 for 25k. Those days are long gone sadly. Fuel economy is improved at least a couple mpg on the 2024, and usable torque is way up.
I test drove one this past weekend, and there are a lot of improvements, and some misses-way over priced as are all trucks especially considering these are assembled in Mexico. The pricing should be less then trucks made in the United States.
Sharp truck. Too pricey and not enough payload for my needs. I have yet to see a new Taco with more than 1200 lbs of payload. There are plenty of options in the midsize market to find 1500 plus lbs of payload. The Taco and Frontier, great trucks, but struggle with payload.
4cyl turbo made in Mexico. Plastic everywhere, panel gaps, push button start, giant screens. I wouldn't trade it for my 2013 Tacoma. It also costs $20k+ more than my 2013 TRD Pro. Toyota Tacoma is dead - buy used.
49k for a base midsize truck? Miles of cheap plastic everywhere! I bought a 22 titan pro4x for 56 brand new. I would take the titan any day after seeing these toyotas. The titan is better in every way. You dont even get any real meaningful increase in mpg. Unless you live in japan and parking space is at a premium, or your going to keep it for 20 years, your better off going somewhere cheaper. Toyota has moved these trucks up market from cheap reliable trucks to expensive reliable (we hope) trucks.

Ben you do know that Toyota has been running the hybrid powertrain used in the Tacoma in LEXUS cars and crossovers for a few years now. Toyota wouldn't do something if they hadn't tested it for reliability!

For me the sweet spot is the TRD Off-road Premium Hybrid option. Has almost everything the Pro has for less money

Ben you do know that Toyota has been running the hybrid powertrain used in the Tacoma in LEXUS cars and crossovers for a few years now. Toyota wouldn't do something if they hadn't tested it for reliability!
