    I greatly enjoyed watching you work. If I ran across you on a beach, I'd be right there helping you. I find this stuff super interesting. I was an art major and music minor in college but I grew up with rock hound parents. I still love rocks. In college I took a few geology classes and science classes and loved them. Not sure why I didn't change majors. Keep hunting and producing. Your video channel is very entertaining. Thank you.

(black sand bend) .. from just few pans .. when I tried few spots around her ... and found nothing..still mesmerized by that experience ;-) ...

  • @themikemason

    This last summer, I tested beaches just west of Marquette all the way east of Muskallonge Lake and most of the black sand has no gold. One good storm could change that. It's amazing how the beaches are always in a state of flux. Mother nature does way more to those beaches than we could do as hobby prospectors. They need to open the beaches back up to allow us to high bank again.

    *I used to take my jet boat and tie up to a few trees on the left and right and wash the upper beach with 250,000 gallons of water with 600hp V8. After that you would get a clean separation of gold and I'd surface scrape out about $500.00 of Gold in a few minuets since it stayed on right on top as all the blonde sands washed back into the lake. All that remained was a solid layer of black sand with easy to spot Gold flakes. It never left a hole but the channel I cut was about 50 feet wide and 100 feet deep up on the 10 foot high shoreline. It is a fast way to process 5000 tons of sand in 20 minutes. The lake-cops even watched me and said there is no law against a boat prop-washing the beach as long as my pump (the boat) stayed in the water and was registered!*

Also, I recommend you to look at Clegg's sifter. His sifter "sleigh" side panels might be an easy adaptable option for your homemade giant pan. The twisting of the panning might have contributed to the ripples loosening. I live in Ft Worth and need to plan out a Northern adventure in the spring, We don't have gold around here. Thanks and looking for the next posting. Stay safe. .

I just have used the regular Gold Claw pan and it took me a little while to get used to the different panning technique but it may be worth a try for you to test their production pan. A panning tub and a comfortable chair with the panning station setup next to your dig location would do a lot to save your back(just a suggestion). I noticed while using a cheap shallow small wheel barrow for gravel that it was hard to get the last bit of dirt out when dumping it. That made me wonder if it could be used much like you are doing but with handles. Make the wheel or wheels removable so you can stand and wash the material, maybe add miners moss and riffles. You proved to me it would work but needs some fore thought and testing. Thanks for showing this, I'm an hour and a half from up there and really want to give it a try.

    • @GlacialGoldHunter
      @GlacialGoldHunter  Месяц назад +1

      You would have to drive the wheel barrow into the lake to get the water. Might draw a bit more attention to yourself doing that. I was worried about that with the tote pan too.

    • @arliegrunseth7925
      @arliegrunseth7925 Месяц назад

      @GlacialGoldHunter I envisioned it without wheels when I do it, sliding it on the sand into the water. The leading edge shape is higher and as such might prevent that "sneaker" wave from washing more than expected. I have also thought about a cone with a cordless vibrator for cement to concentrate the gold. With a central funnel and vibration the gold should drop and the lighter material float off. Perhaps it could be tried on a small er scale to run the concentrate at home. But I get it from your explanation that it must be nonmotorized at the beach. I wondered too if a method of using the wave action for continuous washing might not be possible with these new mats I keep seeing being used.

    Think side-to-side action of a Gold Claw pan ok. A small sluice with reverse riffles, shake under water at a slight angle and watch the light stuff flow out the end while the reverse riffles collect the heavies. Of course you can do this very efficiently on sands with the big production Gold Claw pan, using the fines side, pan held at about 37 degrees, the material just under the water, shaking side-to-side. This makes it so the low point in the pan is always the bottom front edge and the light sands start to flow out after accumulating a little. Just keep adding fresh sand in the back and shake it. All the gold will remain in that low point until you get ready to clean out and you can scoop out most of the top black sands to keep the good stuff. You will have to test with your particular sand and gold to find the sweet spot of working it and what to keep. The gold I see y'all get up there is a bit larger that what I get out of the Arkansas River in Arkansas so it should work better for you. I'm working on a system to make this easier and will be happy to share once completed.

  • @TamponTea
