The line "Naraku no Hana janai" meaning "[you are] not a flower of hell" is one of the most powerful lines in any anime opening. You don't belong to hell, you owe the misery and pain nothing, and you're meant for more than the darkness or evil which befalls you.
All these years after watching the show when I was younger, and so much of it still sticks so keenly with me. That line is a good example. It managed to go from [wow, all this crazy, fucked-up murder shit is entertaining] in season 1... to [we've got to stop all this crazy fucked-up murder shit, somehow] in season 2, and that urgency, that desperation to stop this cycle of insanity, it's amazing.
Forget in "any anime openings," this line is one of the most powerful lines I've ever heard in a song, period.
"You are not a flower from hell, so don't bloom that way" *DAMN THAT HURTS*
"Please don't let your petals fall here, don't leave behind a seed in a place like this."
@@mandymoore6506 holds even more weight when you consider the concept of Higurashi Gou, a seed unfortunately was left there, even after 8 years of being free of hinamizawa
the lines "you are not a flower of hell, don't bloom there" feels so heavy. Just like how Rika refuse to lose to fate, she reject the idea of being a flower of hell. Even when the death grasp her hand and stroke her hair, she tried her best to escape from the cruel fate.
Rika has the worst life of anyone I've ever seen. This song encompasses all that sadness and melancholy perfectly.
It's been so many years since I watched the show, but the moment that always sticks out for me with Rika is, uh.
When she learns who the big bad is, and under what particular circumstances.
Chilling to this day.
Christ, No wonder bernstanklel act's like the way she does though umineko.
@@conMiericonstructs if you compare puella's Homura to her, they are very similar. Rika even likes to pretend to be a magical girl, wand and all, but bernkastel is called and considered a witch. Kyoko - as a magical girl - is called out as a witch by her own father due to the way she used her powers to manipulate the minds of others and tricked her father into believing that the people that now flocked to their church truly believed his nonsense. Making the terms almost interchangeable, depending on the show - Homura herself is the best example of this as her magical girl form largely carries over to when she becomes Homily, her witch form, showing that the two really aren't so different. Rika is the Homura that had reliable friends that deeply cared for her, not just one and tolerating the rest. and Homura is the Rika that gave up on everything and abandoned everyone save for the one friend, and stopped caring if they hated her or if she lived or not, just so long as that one person was happy
And everyone else too, as an afterthought.
She and Wolverine would get along
Watching the remake now, I remember watching the original ones. Almost a decade ago, a bit less when I started to get into wider variety of animes. All I remember was how great this anime was, but your comment brought some faint memory of how someone had it so bad that I felt emotional about it rather than just enjoying the madness :D I knew something was great about these series, but I can't remember what anymore.
Thanks to remake I can watch it again with newer, more modern, quality.

For those interested, Naraku no Hana means flower of hell.
_(Point of which being: In the chorus it says "Anata wa Naraku no Hana ja nai" which means "You're not a flower of hell".)_
If you think about it, it's such a beautiful line.
Not literally. Naraka is a special type of Hell in the Buddism. Once you use all your bad karma, you can set free of it. Is symbolic of the Rika fate.

It‘s been sooo long since I read the manga. I didn't finish the anime and visual novels though. I remember spending hours reading the manga, both higurashi and umineko, and scanning through wiki pages just to understand the connection between the 2 series. And MAN It Was Satisfying! I enjoy them sooo much! Glad to see that they're still being appreciated after all these years. :)

for those who do not understand the story. Higurashi is connected with another anime/vn/manga - Umineko no Naku Koro ni.

Higurashi was a "game-board" between some witches. Witch of certainty (Lambdadelta) has started the game, she was looking for someone, who had a wish other than anyones, that person was Takano, who wanted to become a God, Lambdadelta has decided to accept this wish, then Takano in every Higurashi world was killing Rika, and Hanyuu was reviving her, the result was vicious circle, that's how this game-board begun. During this game-board, Bernkastel was borned from Rika's suffering (it happened thanks to Hanyuu's god powers, very many facts indicating that Hanyuu was connected with Featherine). She was with Rika in one body, they both knew that they had to escape from Lambdadelta's game. After some time Featherine (Hanyuu in Higurashi world) gave away game-master to Rika, Bernkastel and Rika were fighting with this fate for over 100 years, and as we can see in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai, they succesed, they won the game-board. Rika was living in perfect world, and Bernkastel went to Umineko world. So we can say, Bernkastel was borned thanks to Featherine (Hanyuu), Lambdadelta (because she has created this game-board) and Rika (cause Bern was borned from her part).

It's one of my favorite animes. It got 3 'seasons'. So, if you like mystery and horror animes I think it would be the right thing for you. I also can recommend 'Shiki' and 'Shingeki no Kyojin' if you don't know those animes.

Uhm. Most gory parts have been censored not to be visible and the blood has been held back mostly as well.
I'm not sure if it's available with the eng dub but this anime is better with the original language either way.
Again I might be wrong and there is a dub version too I didn't really look around and found the censored version by accident.
Anyway good luck and if you need help finding it let me know and I'll look around.
