- Big Four Mountain in Washington is home to some amazing ice caves but they are incredibly dangerous to enter. So I brought my drone along to see what it's like inside.

How many American wonders have you made available to those who would otherwise be unable to experience them. Just wow. Thank you.
A lot
@Richard Cayson why don't you stop spamming comment sections across youtube.
Chris, I’m glad to know there are at least SOME places you won’t go into!!! This was beautiful and interesting. I loved it! It’s probably the 2nd favorite place you’ve toured me through. My arthritic legs won’t take me anywhere but you will. Thanks so much!
I'm glad that Chris is there for us. I, too, suffer from arthritis and usually walk with a cane.
Every few years somebody gets killed in there.
@@hazevthewolf178 , I don’t like that you’re suffering but I like your comment
@@danb.7414 what happens to them.?
@@rrios283s73 Ice collapses and injury or freeze to death. Usually same as glacier deaths.
Oregon, Washington and Colorado are my favorite states to visit in The hot July summertime... It’s such a relief to be outside and the temperature is perfect. It looks really cold now. Thank you for taking us along on your travels. You have shown us things we would never see. ❤️
Same here, also Wyoming & Alaska!
So I first learned of you after my teacher assigned us your "Mt. Saint Helens, 38 years later" and now I cannot stop watching these videos.
The crazy power of nature displayed vividly.
Without the drone or placing the camera somewhere away from you...you really can't see just how huge that cave is! That is so awesome!! Thanks
Crisp, cold and awesome! Love the views of the cave. The entire structure of water is fabulous.
Nice flying and camera work!
It's past Verlot on the Mt. Loop Hwy. It's unbelievably beautiful. I lived between Granite Falls and Verlot for a few years. The whole area is great for hiking and camping. Just a little ways up the Loop is Monte Cristo, an abandoned mining town, there's not much left but it's still cool. Then the Loop continues around and ends in Darrington. Fun Fact, it takes around 2-3 hours to Darrington from Granite but if you go down to Arlington and back up it only takes an hour.
Those were some spectacular views, drone and otherwise, though was kind of hoping to see the abominable snowman inside. ; )
Nah!.... yeti live in Alaska! We have big foot! He lives deep in the woods!
You have company? I think thats the first time I've seen someone else with you except for colab videos. The scenery is beautiful there. Thanx for sharing such cool places.
This is off mountain loup hwy. If you go further up the hwy you can check out the ghost town of Monte Cristo.
It is a decent hike now that the big bridges that used to cross the river have dislodged and washed away. There were logs that people used to cross but if they wash out then there wont be access anymore.
Wow, that is beautiful. Never heard of these ice caves. Thank you for showing us.
Ice can look so lovely....magical...thanks for taking us along- again...:))
The transition to the drone was awesome!
Beautiful
Stunning area, must be a lot colder than it looks. You do not look like you are that warmly dressed. 😃
Thanks for showing this to us.
Wow absolutely beautiful footage ...The views are so breathtaking....Thank you for sharing....be safe and stay healthy
Beautiful imagery
Still can't believe I haven't been here yet. It's on my list of places to go
So beautiful there. Thanks for the video. Be safe in your travels.
From the drone viewpoint it looks like a mini glacier. Amazing!
That area is just so beautiful. Crossing the Stillaguamish River where the bridge washed out is no small task! The waterfalls off the cliffs are amazing in late spring before the caves get big too. The history of the area is neat too with the mining and big hotel that burned down right there.
Scary yet exciting and beautiful! It has to be sooo tempting to want to walk inside
" well worth the hike , thank's for the shots 😉👍👍🇺🇸 "
This is so cool, amazing it’s nature and it’s like beautiful architecture!! Thank you for sharing
Still wanna know about how you live on the road etc. Please do a vid about it ?
Good point!!!! 🐕🐕🐕🐕
Beautiful footage.
this is one of the most beautiful things i have ever seen on this channel since your Mt St Helens videos!!! something about the PNW in the winter.... thanks again for the amazing video buddy
Thank you very much my friend I love it
Gorgeous area
You find the most beautiful places this looks like a place that a photographer would use for a calendar. If you're ever back in New Mexico there an actual ice cave near Grants you gotta check out, it stays frozen all year around.
I ll look it up, thanks!
Wow,amazing and beautiful.
Great video. Beautiful ice caves and waterfalls.
Once again you have sent us some amazing video and pictures of the Ice cave.
Me personally i appreciate your clips, Please as ever KEEP SAFE we are in trying times.
Wow, what a find!
I live in Bellingham,Wa and have been inside those a few times! And climbed the waterfall up to the ridge. Awesome too see your up in the northwest!
Amazing! When you held up your hand as the drone went back into the cavern, I found myself holding my breath. Great video!
It is quite receded from when i was last there 3 years ago. Sad to think that eventually this will be gone. Thank you for documenting it so that others may experience this before it is lost.
Thank you once again. I look forward to watching your videos and you never disappoint.
Hi Chris, such beautiful scenery surrounding the ice cave, I bet this area alone would fill up a few gigs of memory. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx💖
Mother nature has a way of giving us odd, but beautiful creations. Thank you for the video, you always manage to find things off the beaten path. All are different, but unique and interesting.
Great 👍🏾Bro Respect ✊🏾From Beautiful Island 🏝Jamaica 🇯🇲🇯🇲
Awesome and beautiful 💙
That's an amazing formation. I definitely wouldn't chance going in.
I love this video so much. So beautiful, I've never seen anything like that.
Thanks Scott I'm glad you liked it
I first read the title as Inside An Ice Cafe... 🤭 I really liked getting inside with the drone. I do however have a suggestion. A short hike can turn into disaster in those areas and I know first hand how cold wet jeans are. I suggest something to add to your pack is a pair of synthetic blend pants, long sleeve shirt & socks. I know you want to keep the weight down, but it could save you from hypothermia one day and synthetics retain heat better than cotton. (A reason to never dress in synthetics when there's a wildfire)
Dude, the drone shot was magical. Truly gave a better notion of the cave dimensions.
Thank you for another great video..I look forward to see what you come up with next time..Safe travels..
Thanks for awesome video !
The COOL things nature has to offer!!
This is so pretty! Great video , love 😍 so interesting!
I've always wanted to go here! Lived in the Northwest for a bit but never got to it. Maybe someday!
Awesome find
wow you are near my neighborhood! very cool!
Amazing! I live in Seattle and have been to Rainier several times but had no idea about the ice cave there. I had never heard about it. You find all the best places! Looking forward to see what other places you will be exploring in the PNW!
That's pretty cool
Well, that's amazing! Incredible video! I've always wanted to explore an ice cave! So jealous of your adventures! Been watching for years! Can't believe you're almost at 200,000 subs!
That's incredible. You visit the most awesome places. WOW. I'm glad your drone didn't ground in there. Incredible footage.
I wish I was a walking with you, so beautiful, I love the power of nature!!!!! 🐕🐕🐕🐕
Pretty darn cool
Love what you do! Keep it up and maybe you will discover something awesome in north Idaho!
Another great video Chris from Brian in Ireland 🇮🇪
Wow! I saw some great photography and slick editing in this video. Thanks for a look at a place that I'll probably never see in real life, especially at *ahem* my age. You've always struck me as the sort of fellow who never met a cave that he didn't like, but I'm glad that you didn't go charging into that ice cave. I'm recalling an episode of your adventures where you very nearly got stuck in a narrow, underground cave. I'm looking forward to your adventures over the years to come.
An absolutely awesome video
So cool! I should this to 5 others who work here. Everyone checked out your site & thought it was cool too!
That was so cool!
Really nice trip, with beautifull views
Thanks for sharing
Very awesome video, Chris. So glad you didn't go in. Enjoy your holidays.
Too cool.
Always look forward to your video's ,amazing to watch as always thank you
Awesome explore. Very peaceful and sireen. Thanks for the adventure 😄 Stay warm and safe
I live in the area and if this is the hike that I think it is, it’s called The Big 4 Ice Caves. When I was there there actually were 4 ice caves. Very cool, short hike
Those were so much bigger in 1991 when I toured the caves. I was told that there were huge caves at Mt. St Helens before the eruption
Beautiful photography!!!!
Have been to Big Four Ice Caves many times. We used to go in the caves before authorities posted KEEP OUT signs. The most recent fatality I recall is a young girl killed by a chunk of falling ice. I recall walking in the cave (sometimes there is more than one) and seeing big chunks of ice missing from the sculpted ceiling. Can be scary. We love sliding the snow field in the summer.
I went in those in Oct 1978 with my friend's church group, I was 14
At that time there were 2 openings at the bottom and looked like a pair of eyes staring at you when you came out of the mile long trail from the parking lot and Rucker's glacier came into view
Rucker's glacier is the Lowest ice in the cascades, 2000 ft elevation Big four ice caves
You are a good drone pilot!
New Subscriber! Love your videos. Keep on tracking!
I love the drone footage, I would have been afraid I'd crash it.
Very pretty and its cool how it forms. Thanks but it's a definite no for me. Too cold 🥶🥶⛷️🏂🌨️❄️☃️⛄
Beautiful God's Country @!!!
Wow....not jealous atal .
You should add that people die in those caves. They collapse. Been there many times, never went inside.
It's a stunning area!
what a place
The chance that the ice arch would collapse at the moment you crossed under it for a few seconds is infinitesimal. Btw, why not introduce your companion for your explorations? Love your vids, have lived around Seattle for quite awhile but never been up there.
I'd love to go see the nature views in America here in Britain there not bad but not great America got different level of scenery
you should do a video on the ghost town of Monte Cristo just up the road from the Big Four ice caves towards Darrington, its a 4 mile hike to the old ghost town , and many gold mines (mostly or partially collapsed ) on the hike up along the creek past the ghost town !
I lived close to there, Camano Island, and have been to the ice cave Twice. Beautiful but dangerous. A few people have been killed there including a child.
i have walked to the very back twice , and another time about 1/2 way and big chunks of ice were falling down , last time i ever went in , but have been back several times since !
Sorry for the late watch. Really cool stuff, what an incredible place. I have been through a glacier in New Zealand which is not so different. Thanks for sharing. Best wishes, Paul
More to come! It will only get colder :-)
Ice caves are amazing aren't they. Have you been to Ape Cave in Washington?
Ape cave is over rated. Try other ones. I know of one with a creek in it, never floods
Really...sounds cool.
Yes I've been there. Very cool area!
I live there its outside granite falls wa its about 20 min from my house there is a memorial for ppl and a little girl who died there. Its the big 4 ice caves use to be a hotel at the beginning of the trail that burned down called the big 4 Inn all that's left is the big stone fire place. They helicoptered out the end of the bridge.
Check out the Bandera ice cave in New Mexico
Nice use of the drone
A drone put to good use! 👍
New sub here, had no idea you were up in the PNW! Never been to the Big Four Caves, I'll have to get up there sometime. Cheers, keep doin your thang!
Definitely worth a visit
the caves are created when the snow melts and runs underground ... the warmer water turns into vaper ... the vaper easts away the snow from the bottom up ... it happens all year long until mother nature dumps more snow and starts the process all over again.
