  • Do Christians suffer from depression? Did you know that Charles Haddon Spurgeon, known as "The Prince of Preachers" suffered from crippling depression or "Fog" as he called it. Which left him unable to preach for sometimes months at a time. However, there is HOPE and it is found in JESUS.

As a person who has suffered from this illness for years
Reading some comments proves it still has such a stigma in society
It is an illness same as a physical illness
    We ARE NOT demon possessed
    WE CANT just move on
Would you say that to someone with a broken leg ???
Well our brains have been broken and it is a struggle to heal
So please be kind with the comments

    Please don’t comment

Laura Rice Depression is from Satan
Be careful on what worldly things you do. Your going to have to surrender 100% to Jesus Christ
Listening to Biblical sermons on RUclips
Listening to nothing but worship music
      Praying without ceasing
Lord I ask you forgive me of my selfishness
      My disobedience
And any unrighteousness in my thought and deed. I ask that you fill me with your Holy Spirit. I ask that you place your Armor on me
I ask that you remove my baggage, and give me Joy!
Fill me Lord with your Holy Spirit.
      Amen
      Something like that. Everyday
      Multiple times a day.
Speak of Jesus Christ to your friends, family, co workers. Remind yourself of Him and His holiness. Work towards that same Holiness day by day all day,
More you think of that, the less time you will think about being depressed. God will give you a new heart and mind.
      James 4:7
      Humble yourself before God
Resist the Devil and he will flee from you.
Takes a lot of spiritual sweat though. Can’t be one foot in the world and one foot in the Word. Won’t work.
Jesus says I wish you were Hot or Cold, but because your lukewarm, I’ll spit you out
When your lukewarm, Satan is there roaming like a lion seeking to kill steal and destroy you.
      My advice

Thank you pastor Greg! As a believer that live in the West with strong ties to my root, the Orientals as a whole view depression and most other mental health issues as "shame" and not to be discussed openly. I grew up in Taiwan with severe struggle with depression and suicide through most of my adult life... To make my case worse, I then married into a Western Christian (so they stated) family that believe depression and all mental health issues are rooted in sin and rebellion against God, my in-laws believe Christians should NOT take medications for mental health purpose and condemn and judge other Christians that do. To my in-laws, these "weaker Christians" lack faith and must repent before anything else.
It is refreshing to hear from you pastor Greg that many "Hall of fame" Christians suffer depression and they are no less a Christian than the "perfect Christian" image portrayed by my Christian in-laws as well as the Western Christian value that my in-laws embrace.

    • @georgewang4963
      @georgewang4963 5 лет назад

My in-laws also believe that our current Bible is NOT complete with out the "Book of Enoch", which teaches Earth is flat and Jesus is NOT sufficient to redeem us without an archangel named "Panha" that intercede for us..
      for our salvation.

Not one of those in the holy Scripture who struggled with depression and felt like dying actually killed themself, except for Judas; a man living a lie, a secret life of sin who turned back to the world and we know him as the son of perdition.
      DON'T BE A THIEF!
1 Corinthians 6:19-20, ...You are not your own...For you were bought at a
price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are
      God’s.
DO NOT DESTROY GOD'S TEMPLE BY KILLING YOURSELF
1 Corinthians 3:16-17, Do you not know that you are the temple of God and
that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of
God, God will DESTROY him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple
      you are.
DO NOT LIE TO SAY THAT ANYONE WHO MURDERS THEMSELF WILL GAIN ETERNAL LIFE
Matthew 19, One came and said unto him, "Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?"
Jesus said, You shall do no murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal you shall not lie,..."
IF YOU JUSTIFY SUICIDE AND SOMEONE BELIEVES YOU A KILLS THEMSELF, YOU WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE
Ezekiel 3:20, “Again, when a righteous man turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die; because you did not give him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he has done shall not be remembered; but his blood I will require at your hand."

But I have three years of sobriety. I am no longer willing to turn to sinful behaviors to provide relief and distraction. So, I sit in it, praying but mostly soldiering on for as long as I can. Medicines did more harm than good.

Great message that I agree with.
The part about Winston Churchill I don't agree with as much. Winston Churchill, was, in that period probably one of the more hated individuals of my people (my people were thrown in concentration camps by the British just before world war 1, Churchill was a reporter, and later a soldier for the British in my country at the time, and a supporter of the British onslaught and scorched earth policies). Thousands of women and children died in those camps, and thousands upon thousands were left destitute. Whether he saved Western civilization, is speculative, and perhaps a bit exaggerated. Germany would never have won the war regardless. With the addition of the United States to the war, being the most powerful industrial nation, and with Stalin having had his eyes on Europe, and having had plans to himself, invade Europe, the idea of Germany, with their limited resources, being able to win outright, and keep that power, is somewhat speculative at best. Besides, Germany also was and is a Western nation. So either way, the West would have won.

Hello. I am an atheist. I define atheism as the practice of suspending the acknowledgement of the existence of gods until sufficient evidence can be presented. My position is that *_I have no good reason to acknowledge the existence of gods._*
And here is the evidence as to why I currently take such a position.
    1. I personally have never observed a god.
    2. I have have never encountered a first person account in which that person has observed a god.
    3. I have found no accounts of persons claiming to have observed a god that can be verified for authenticity, accuracy, or validity.
    4. I have have never been presented a valid logical argument which employed rationally sound premises that lead deductively to a conclusion that gods exist.
    5. All of the 46 logical arguments I have encountered all have been demonstrated to have multiple fallacious or unsubstantiated premises.
    6. I have never observed a phenomenon in which the existence of a god was an necessary antecedent for the known or probable explanation for the causation of that phenomenon.
    7. Dozens of proposed and generally accepted explanations for observable phenomena based on the agency of a god(s), have subsequently been replaced with rational, natural explanations, each substantiated with evidence that excluded the agency of a god(s). I have never encountered vice versa.
    8. I have never experienced the presence of gods through intercession of angels, answer to a petition, a presented truth by revelation, fulfillment of prophecy, the miraculous act of divinity, or any observation of a supernatural event.
    9. Every phenomena that I have ever observed has emerged from necessary and sufficient antecedents over time without exception. In other words, I have never seen any phenomenon (entity, process, object, event, process, substance or being) that was created instantly by the solitary volition of a single deity.
ALL of these facts lead me to the only rational conclusion that concurs with the realities I have been presented - and that is the fact that there is no good reason for me to acknowledge the existence of gods.
I have heard often that atheism is the denial of the Christian god. But denial is the active rejection of a substantiated fact once credible evidence is presented them. Skepticism (atheism) is simply withholding such acknowledgement until sufficient credible evidence is introduced. It is natural, rational and prudent to be skeptical of unsubstatiated claims, especially extraordinary ones.
I welcome any cordial response. Peace.

@@breny3 You seem to be so CERTAIN that I've never attempted "to seek Jesus wholeheartedly". Let me share a secret IF you care to listen. Your smug arrogance overwhelms your effort to be kind. It is ALWAYS helpful to LISTEN to an individual and ASK them to share their convictions instead of projecting the tired old rhetoric you are hearing from other Christians. You will never understand the wisdom of employing rational deduction & inference, cognitive constructs of reasoning, learning, critical analysis, and even skepticism which leads to discovering truths, if you're wasting your time practicing apologetics and proselytizing. I, too, am only trying to help. Peace.

Problem is that you will not encounter God or experience His guidance when you reject Him. Also that is in the bible. Many will be able to testify, but of course you can reject all witness accounts, because you want the first hand experience. But did shut off that possibility.

JESUS PROMISED, "To him who OVERCOMES I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.” (Revelation 2:7)
Of all the people in the Bible who felt so discouraged they wanted to die, none did and all were OVERCOMERS except Judas; a man living a secret life of sin, who did NOT stay faithful and trust Jesus with his life enough to endure unto the end.
BUT what does holy Scripture say about someone leaving the faith of trusting Jesus, of waiting on Jesus?
What does Scripture say about someone who kills themself?
IS IT STEALING TO TAKE YOUR LIFE?
1 Corinthians 6:19-20, ...You are not your own...For you were bought at a
price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are
    God’s.
IS IT THE SIN OF MURDER TO COMMIT SUICIDE AND WILL IT DESTROY YOUR SOUL?
1 Corinthians 3:16-17, Do you not know that you are the temple of God and
that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If anyone defiles the temple of
God, God will DESTROY him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple
    you are.
IS IT AN EVIL LIE TO SAY THAT ANYONE WHO MURDERS THEMSELF WILL GAIN ETERNAL LIFE?
Matthew 19, One came and said unto him, "Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?"
Jesus said, You shall do no murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal you shall not lie,..."
SO, DO NOT FORFEIT BEING SAVED FOR ETERNITY BY KILLING YOURSELF!
Jesus said, "he who endures to the end shall be saved." (Matt. 24:13)
GREG, IF SOMEONE KILLS THEMSELF BECAUSE YOU PROMOTE SUICIDE AS ACCEPTABLE, YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE!!
