Great version (she manages so well with that instrument of her soprano voice to convay a relaxed lightness-of-touch that so many other singers seem unable to - the arrangement is nice too with a traditional folk tune put to a jazzy ensemble).

I first heard this song in one of my favorite movies called The great Northfield Minnesota Raid330 years Mournfully sung by a lonely prostitute
So captivated by the song that I had no problem remembering the tune upon returning home and immediately chorded it out on my guitar. I play it still .Very haunting tune indeed .
Bordello scene, prostitute singing in foreign language. Perhaps German or Swedish ( takes place in Minnesota so
    . . . 😢. )
And some ten̈ years ago I discovered this and I'm totally mesmerized by Sessell. .
    Such a voice.

In Denmark Sissel is loved too, so is this tune and the dance hambo (a polska-type swedish dance that goes with this tune).
Around 40 years ago this text "Anders var i Anna kær" (- 'Anders was in love with Anna') was written to it by Vidar Frandsen. I see it as a comment to "Anna var i Anders kær" (or "Ved Rugskellet") a poem by Jeppe Aakjær whom everyone in high school has to struggle with. ("Særk" = 'dress' or 'petticoat' belonging to past centuries, "skukker" is not a danish word "skogrer" would be better I think.)
Højt skukker tjuren midt i naturen.

  • @janbohme

No, "frisky" isn't a better translation. It's just a silly mistranslation. The winds are playful and fresh, but nothing more than that. The whole tenor of the song is rather melancholy - "I'm sad, but the sounds from nature make me feel a little better", like. BTW, it shouldn't be "the vigil" either, but "the song thrush". "Vaka" normally means "vigil" in Swedish, but in this text, "vakan" is an alternative name for the song thrush (normally called "taltrast" - "speaking thrush" - in Swedish.)

    • @lesliesmith9299

I learned this song in English in 1962 when I was in the 3rd grade - we sang "Spring sends her greetings, winter is fleeting, now is the time for dancing and joy." I am curious as to what the Swedish lyrics are.
