Matt was a great drummer. That GNR gig was a dream come true for any drummer but he left a sweet job for it. Can carry his weight strait into the top 50 or 60 drummers o.a.t.
He talks a lot about Bill Ward being an influence but in Modern Drummer [I think it was] Keith Moon was #1 on his top ten list. GNR was at its peak once Matt joined and before Izzy left.
Hang on brother, Sorum copied what Steven had already recorded (demos) Sorum heard the songs and played them the way that Adler did on the demo. Listen to Knocking On Heavens Door there's 2 versions. Matt Sorum copied everyt single beat that Steven already did on that Tom Cruise movie. Adler you idiot.......
agreed. imagine if they stayed with the appetite lineup and cut those two bloated illusion records down to one with just the good songs. could have been so epic. a real proper appetite part 2. theres nothing wrong with sticking with the winning formula. i was real excited when You Could Be Mine dropped but my heart just sunk when i heard Don’t Cry. terrible terrible song. then November Rain was everywhere and i couldnt stand that song. i was out. there was almost enough decent songs on the two illusion’s to make one good album maybe, but then it turned out The Spaghetti Incident was better, which is really sayin something
progressing and moving forward??? that happens regardless of if your new album sux or not. the garden, november rain, don’t cry, live and let die, you aint the first, knockin on heavens door, so fine… all frickin frickin terrible songs. then you get the kinda appetite-y ones … next door to hell, perfect crime, dont damn me, dead horse, so so so much better. theres nothing wrong with sounding like your last album. worked for acdc iron maiden judas priest black sabbath rage against the machine tool. you could take any two songs off any two albums of those bands and they almost could have came from the same record
I like Steven Adler, but I didn’t really get in to Guns N’ Roses until the Illusion albums (1 being my all time favorite GnR album). To me, Sorum IS the drummer for GnR. So far as his appearance goes, I’d Guess drugs/alcohol that go along with suddenly being a member of the biggest band on the planet at the time. And Yes …they were the biggest… if you were around in the early 90s, you already know.

Never understood why Matt wasn't part of the GN'R reunion tours. Great drummer all around.
Everything suggests that he said too much in his book. He mentioned things that displeased Axl Rose. This is what came out in the press.
He didn't leave G&R, he was fired, he said it himself in many interviews.
We all love you Matt you are a great drummer
🙌🏻👏🏻
My favorite GnR Drummer. love you Matt.

He formed an all-star band a few years ago with Geezer Butler called Deadland Ritual

They were never great without Adler I couldn’t relate to use your illusion at all it sounded like completely different band to me

Too much piano and too perfect drum timing. Way different band
It’s called progressing, moving forward, altering those tunes they had written during AFD. A lot of bands wrote the same material until they faded.

What happened to recent appearance? He started to wear a hair piece.

Those who like and are interested in Guns. That’s probably not your case.
