Other than the Ed Jucker era (1959 thru 1963) where the Bearcats appeared in five straight Final Four's, there is/was nothing else like the Bob Huggins era at UC, when it came to establishing competitiveness on the court. His teams were a direct reflection of him, fiery competitors, fighting tooth and nail. His most talented team is/was the 1999-00 team led by Kenyon Martin, but his best overall team is/was his 1992 Final Four team, led by Nick Van Exel, Corie Blount, Herb Jones, Terry Nelson, and Anthony Buford. That team executed as well as they were talented, which is definitely a formula for a successful season/team. This 1998 Great Alaska Shootout Championship is/was one of the best early season college basketball games I've witnessed, two top 25 teams playing at a late season level...
Man I wish the Bearcats would go back to these uniforms. Always felt they made a statement that this was a team that didn't suffer fools. Besides the Bearcats uniforms wish list, it would be nice to see the Great Alaskan Shoot Out get revived again.
Eazy Money love it! I was embarassed by him in high school here in cleveland a few times. I'm 6'1" and white, needless to say it was a long night. If it was today, he woulda been on youtube dunking over me
I think Huggins would have won a national title if he had stayed in Cincy. His last team was talented, they almost won the NIT even after the two best players got kicked off the team for not going to class. He would have landed OJ Mayo, Bill Walker and the other high caliber recruits.
"The Flintstones" of Michigan State didn't want any part of the Bearcats that season. It would've been a great 2000 NCAA Championship game to watch, had fate allowed it happen...

I remember watching this game live during Thanksgiving weekend! Temple would go into the Shoe and beat #1 Cincinnati later in the year. Chaney had a history of getting the best of Huggins. Ahh when the Owls were a nationally relevant program....
It actually was the year Martin broke his leg that Temple won at Cincinnati! Bearcats were so dominant that was their only other loss besides Xavier 'til Martin got hurt! This game against Duke was '98-'99, not '99-'00!

The 93 team that lost to North Carolina in the elite 8 was a hell of a team.
@@MrMashman93 Agreed, owned UNC in the first half, but there's two halfs in college basketball...

he went down after that year when DJ came..
That last play call by Cincy was BADASS

Michael Beasley would have been on that team with Walker and Mayo too.... crazy "what if..."
Great game and upload. This was probably one of the last years that power house teams were in the Great Alaska Shootout.
I’ve got to read up on what happened with the Great Alaska Shootout. Between it and Maui, those were THE two early season tournaments.
That was Duke's only regular season loss
do you have cincinnati @unlv 12/19/98 ?
That Bearcat team was loaded with grown men. Might have won it all if Martin didn't get injured in their conference tourney.

UConn was better. Richard Hamilton was the best player on the floor that night and in the NBA for their careers.
