Working with Natural Patterns

- Dave Rastovich, famed surfer and ecowarrior, is working with Geoff Lawton to build a food garden for 6-8 families, including his, that live along a small, private road. The community wants to localize their food. They want to know where it comes from and reduce food miles. They want to get the health benefits, both for their bodies and the local ecology. And, they believe the garden will strengthen the community by giving them a place convene and a reason to interact.
The site is located in the subtropics on a piece of land that’s been mistreated and neglected, but now it is being reconfigured to work with natural patterns and thrive. The project is starting with level terrace gardens with footpaths on contour to help mitigate and absorb water. There is an additional option of harvesting water from road runoff if necessary, but a bypass is being included because the area usually has an overabundance of rain. Chicken tractors will help with regenerating the slopes below, creating compost as they move across the landscape, and wet gardens will be put in further downhill.
The route to food security has begun.

Great job!
Building a community around the permiculture farms.
Nadia did such an impressive job!
Beautiful regeneration of the land after so much abuse, and using the results to bring the community together, amazing!
Love it too
oh yeah ha ha, putting machines in ruining soil and leeching carbon is so cool as is promoting brands, this is bs and its typical capitalism, lucky indigenous people are growing strong again, they can help us and they dont lie and are very funny..
Gr8 part of the world... North Coast NSW, Mid Coast (Kempsy to Coffs)...spent a lot of time there. G'd onya Dave!...nice to see someone pulling the community together...Don't forget your bees... Maybe Cedar Anderson can help...
Would love to see updates on this property!
Great shot of Nadia in the digger, I'm going to show this to my nieces :)
Loved the camera shot of Geoff at the end,
"grow a lot of food, make a lot of people happy and healthy"

Wow! Great work. So amazing to se how lyou handle that mashie, Nadia! ♥️🇿🇦
This all looks and sounds so interesting, I wish I could understand all the terms and ideologies behind it all. I’ll keep watching, maybe I’ll connect the dots. Homeschooling gardener mom of 5 in Nova Scotia
Good luck with it. I strongly recommend this channel the Canadian Permaculture Legacy ruclips.net/video/w0UYhwXhK4o/видео.html I learned so much about how to apply these principles in a Canadian climate with awesome examples of what plants, trees and methods work well. He really makes these concepts easy to understand. Between Geoff Lawton and Canadian Permaculture Legacy, I am filling my youtube time with study of permaculture, dreaming of spring. Best wishes for your beautiful Nova Scotia garden.
keep going it's nice 😉
How can I get this king of maps? Amazing work , thanks !!!
Fascinating to watch. I'm looking forward to updates & eventually full production of the land.
Great idea ❤️

Lad and Dad in pefect patterns
Great job! What kind of maps are those? Where can we get them?
Thumbs up for Nadja and women empowerment ...
Awesome work! What programs did you use to get the contour lidar maps?
i use the Gaia GPS app
nice.
I wonder why the curves are not oriented the opposite way, so the water can be captured by the gravity. Just wondering...
I thought the water that washes off the road is very toxic, isn't it?
Now's a good time for more people to turn there land-lawns and backnyards into spaces like this.
Great project and a great job done by all. Love to follow the progress. Great work Nadia.
Love everything about this project! Practical, beautiful and beneficial to the local environment and community
Beautiful! I love these videos and seeing your projects. Thanks and cheers from America.
Finally a new video Geoff, been waiting all year!
Wish he could go to California- they’re going to need sensible people.
Great to see you adding more videos. They’re great! Need more of these.
I wish there was more of these videos around when I moved with my mum to start a permaculture farm. Would have helped my mum a lot.
Neglected isn't the right word that land has been abused and now you're showing it the love we should all show to our land water and people keep up the good work
nice. hope you show it again in production.
Dave Looks like he would be a great RUclips spokesman for permaculture. Glad y’all are having fun!

Really exciting project... how close to the beach? Will the sea breeze affect green leafed common vegetables? Does it have a wind break? Keep us updated
