Hi Phil, are you familiar with ecstatic dance? If yes, could you do a video on how to build a set? The link below is a great DJ from Lisbon, specialising in ecstatic dance. m.mixcloud.com/VirgilioBeatriz/
mixing Psytrance depends on the subgenre. Goa is like trance it is about finding matching basslines or ones that complement each other and mixing end to beginning because it is about the flow think astrix, progressive psytrance is a little bit more relaxed and you can juggle the basslines between two tracks it plays a lot like bigroom house that is very much like vini vici. but at the end of the day learn the rules to mixing the genre then creatively break them so you can develop your own sound and mixing style. I start my set with a lot of slow long transitions and playing the tracks out all the way when I get toward the middle of my set I will mix 3 to 4 tracks during the climax which will give me my own harder sound before bring in a song that blends well into the breakdown. While others will just spend all the time to create the same flow just by programming your set.
Hey Phil, check out Paul Van Dyk's 2019 Nature One & Shine Ibiza set and do a breakdown of PvD's DJ and live mash up techniques. Would make for a super cool video. Cheers.
I'm coming back to the decks after a long layoff, and I wanted to challenge myself with learning trance as my favorite genre is deep progressive/chill house. This is a phenomenal video as it clearly explains some really solid transitions, so many thanks for doing it and I've liked and subscribed :)
That last mix was insane! I was a bedroom DJ with vinyl decks in my teens and now just getting back in to it with a controller. I had never even though about using loops like that, also had no idea about track keys either.. It appears I have a lot more to learn! Thanks for the excellent video.
@@chunyen258 mate it's all the same to mix, all the 4 to the floor genres are, just beat match it in phrase, make sure you mix in key and use your eqs propperly and you won't go far wrong. Mixing in key is very important
Do you have any videos on how to choose which tracks? More like by feel vs technical. Totally get the camelot number thing, so then if we have say 3-4 songs with the same camelot number, which to choose as our next track?
two tricks that can help you, sample from tech trance intros on your way out of the first track, then as you bring in the second track intro let it ride on the tech trance track. second tip, trance is 100% programming first aka track selection. matching tracks in key and making sure they flow well together then you mix in the ending from song A into the beginning of song B. if you want to have more technical mixing in your sets keep in mind the flow and your bar counts. you can then shorten up transitions or break the rules. But you don't want to break the phrasing it can kill the energy.
I love playing trance and this really helped... I also love putting my hands in dubstep (Completely opposite, I know) but it always sounds horrible when I try to mix them in... Can you please do a tutorial on dubstep?
First, thank you so much for sharing this knowledge! People like you that value free knowledge deserve a medal, for that I am eternally grateful. I'm a pianist studyingto become a DJ, I have a question: You said the difference between A and B is one is major, the other is minor. Aren't A and B major keys? Minor would be Am and Bm.
GMS Produções Productions most DJ’s use the Camelot Wheel which codes keys, major and minor differently than what we are taught as musicians. You can set your DJ controller software to use “classical key” vs the Camelot system, which is what I did.
I have a Vocal mix Piano Trance track in my head and I dont know anything about making Trance music. My inspiration is PVD. I need a good tutor to help me to kickstart my next career choice. Can you point me to the right path, please? ✌🏼️
With trance is it the same as you mentioned in one of your videos about beats, bars and phrase. 16 bars intro and outro? does the same apply for trance
Hey Phil, I’ve learnt a massive amount from you and I really appreciate it! Is there any chance you could do a video about drum and bass music? As I know the broken beat makes for a more challenging mix to beginners. Thank you!
Mixin' Psytrance is a difficult to mix and a unique than any genres, Cuz there are tracks the kicks in mid area are clashing and doesnt sound good with the outgoing track. So heads up ! I recommend listen to each track carefully and play it in my cue in headphone if the tracks got kick is sound good enough with the outgoing track so play it. Anyway if the kicks are clashing drop mix swap the mids I mix these tracks on 10 oclock mid and high but make sure the song close in 2 semitones than each other that it'll be sound correct
You need to fix the audio ur putting out dude. Very very unprofessional. For beginners to here the sound coming from your room is not helping them, they need crystal clear audio like they are in the room with you. They need to hear the nuances, not distortion over a camera mic. As a matter of fact, while watching/listening to your video while typing this, if any of you guys reading this are beginners, go check out ellaskins on RUclips. He explains everything far better than this video. This dude appears to be a chancer. He may be locally known in his area, but if you really want to be a dj and want learn the real art and fundamental skills of djing, check out ellaskins. I'm a knowbody, I do mix on my vestax pdx d3 mk2 turntables, have done for 20 plus years, I was taught the art by a successful dj, but I just wanted to know for my own pleasure of mixing at home. I mean no harm, I just think ellaskins is a far superior teacher.

Well Can You Give Some Tips About Mixing Pystrance And Hardstyle
