The reason that we talk about duration at .050 lift is because most "experts" say that .050 of lift is the point where the valve actually starts to flow air. By changing from 1.5 to 1.6 ratio rockers, you have slightly increased the number of degrees where the valves will be over .050 lift, because a 1.6 rocker will achieve .050 lift slightly sooner than a 1.5 rocker will achieve .050 lift, so you have effectively added a slight amount of duration to the camshaft. I would only use the 1.6 rockers on the intake, because split duration cams are made to help the crappy stock exhaust manifolds keep up with the less restrictive intake tract on a stock engine. An engine with decent headers usually makes more power on a single pattern camshaft.
@@kevinkelley3657 I did not realize that's where the duration at .050 came from! That makes sense on the rocker arms though for sure. That's where we had listed the "at the valve" duration from the change.
I think instead of something being made illegal, it should be made legal, and tell everyone, to me racing is about progress, refinement. Maybe disqualify the person that year, but make it legal the next year. Depending on specifics of course. I haven't raced in over 20 years.
@@jamest.5001 basically this is saying that the cam that comes in the engine from the factory needs to still be the one from the factory. There are other rules for "built" engines so technically you can do a built engine with other weight requirements etc to make it even on the track.

The first 5 "602"s I tore down had 3 different numbers on camshafts, they all passed the cam doctor so whats going on? by the way I hate these friggin crate motors, they were supposed to help the car owners with the price of racing now they`re more than $7000. I can whoop a crate with about half the money if I have the block intake and pan. GM discontinued the repacement .005 oversize pistons and speed pro (h-815-acp) recently discontinued their version. I smell a GM rat, I think they paid them off. I got to add $250 to my builds for Ricky Brooks to reseal em. I hope these crates get the 20% out of country tariff slapped on them next year. That would serve these money grabbing track owners right. We could go back to spec motors and use our brains. I`ve heard a good saying and it applies " It`s easier to whine than it is to win!" Great info guys!!! Very good explanation!!!
@@GrandPitoVic that is great to hear! We appreciate you watching and the feedback!
Too many rules...too much hassle. Restrict the intake and exhaust and let 'em run.
@@JalopyTechnology It's a pretty simple rule. Run what is supplied by the crate engine manufacturer. When you monkey with it then you have to dig in.

When I was building ssca as engines they didn't specify focker ratio it had to be. 500 lift at the valve.
@@davidreed6070 oh really? Interesting! The crates come with 1.5 but like Brian said they allow that to be swapped to the 1.6.

Just measure in + ex lift at tdc along with max lift. They'd have to be pretty desperate if they tried to get round those dimensions
