I'm a native Texas hunter but was raised in Nevada, Utah and Idaho most of my life and man, i miss going out hunting like i did back in the 70s 80s 90s and early 2000s ... I'm retired now so i came down to warmer weather, I'm actually living in Mexico for the winter right now, but Man i miss all that hunting we used to do back all over the Northwest !! 🤘🏻💚😚💨💚🤘🏻 Down here in south Texas we have awesome white tail,big jabalina , Good fishing and lots and lots of rattlesnakes!!

I would love to go elk hunting but it's a shame that it cost so much. Elk is one of my dream animals to hunt. I live in Missouri and I have ever seen and am able to hunt is white tail don't get me wrong my first buck was a 8 pt and i never grew tired of hunting but still to get that big of beautiful beast is amazing in general.
Quick question. What caliber do you use for Elk hunting? Got an Elk with a 308, last year. It was relatively close range. However, you seem to be at least 300+ meters away, when you hit those Elk.
There are lots of great cartridge choices for elk. You are correct distance can have impact on a bullet's performance down range. It all comes down to different ballistics, personal preference and the hunt conditions you anticipate. The elk hunters in our office shoot everything from 308, 270. 6.5 PRC, 280 ai and 300 win mag to name a few. A 308 isn't the fastest cartridge out there, but it will get the job done. Its wild to me how many people dont reload. I hunt white tail with a 7 mag and no matter what happens i instantly reload. To be hunting elk and other large animals and not reload is ceazy to me.

Get a buddy and look into do-it-yourself general tags Randy Newberg has great info i live in northern Alberta great elk hunting but it’s a learning curve learn to call and practice it makes a HUGE difference in getting one or not seeing anything it can be done cheap lots of good info and people to help out there

what do you do with it after?
Eat them. Elk, deer, bears, antelope: They all make amazing meals. My mom makes a lot of venison jerkey that our whole family will eat all year. Most of the skins we'll donate to local shops so they can make cool stuff with them.

To all those saying this is cruel and unnecessary and such, Conservation hunting is ABSOLUTELY necessary for the continued propagation of a given species. Not to mention a main source of protein since time immemorial. We humans have the responsibility for trying to keep the ecological balance. To let one species grow in population far more than another that is associated with it ecologically could eventually drive one or both species to extinction. Culling of invasive species and pest control is also very important to maintain the balance. These are all facts, not opinions

The kill at a little after 5 minute mrk was messed up letting that poor animal suffer for another 15 to 18 seconds and not putting it out of it's pain. Deer Population increases, which causes a lack of food for the herd. Lack of food results in mass starvation and diseases. Hunting prevents mass death in the herd.
Because they're delicious and will feed a whole family for a month or two. That saves a ton of money in the long run.

Come deer hunting with me in the woods of Ohio with a shotgun in a tree stand, where the closest shot you’ll get is 50 yards if you’re lucky. Now that’s true hunting, unlike a 500 yard shot in an open field. Jesus!! All that is is long range target practice! Where’s the sport in that???
Part of the hunt is learning to get close to the game or being where you know they’ll be; learning to read animal signs so you know where to be…not shooting an animal from 4 or 5 football fields away!! Good grief!!!
I'd say there's plenty of sportsmanship in trekking miles out into brush, up and down ridges, just to get into position for a shot. A shot which will test my abilities as a marksman.

Be real for a second and understand that they joy of being able to hunt for your food and feeding your family is any less moral than animals killing each other for food.
