One of the greatest things about having a small dog is that you can take them almost anywhere and include them in your travel plans,as long as you train them to relax comfortably and calmly in their travel bag.To get started,it's always best to do with a puppy that's very open-minded but even if your having a adult dog,there are exercises and things that you can do to get them happily enjoying their bag.First you can just have the bag kinda hanging out in your house,especially maybe were the dog bed used to be and you can randomly just throw little treats in the bag so that your dog investigates the bag on her own and when they look in there, there's a yummy treats available.So they start checking out the bags on their own quite a bit.When they are tired and they might normally be resting on your lap or at your feet,you can encourage them to go into the bag to rest instead.It's best not to squash your dog into the bag,let them kinda make that decision themselves to get on in there if you can be patient.

my min pin loves his bag.. we were stuck in an airport for more than 48 hours and he was more patient than i was
i also take him on my motorcycle in his bag.. such fun had
he will also happily sit in a backpack with his head poking out :D

Very helpful video. I'm going to test treats and toys before we begin bag training. So far, my puppy can't be bought with treats and unfortunately, I did smush him into the first crate, so trust needs to be rebuilt. I bought a new travel bag and will leave it under the chair at my writing table so he can investigate it on his own.

I did this with my 3 yr old min pin and she was ok in the carrier- AT HOME… once we got to the airport it was a disaster and we missed our flight 😢

This isn't helpful at all because not every dog will voluntarily go into the bag themselves. They may just reach for the treats and then retreat vs. putting their whole body into it.

I've tried to get my dog into his bag for months now, and he does not go all the way in, EVER. he just stretches himself out, retreats the treat and then back crawls back out. That's what I was referring to about the video not being very helpful. What do you do when a dog doesn't ever go all the way in? I do not believe in Cesar Milan nor do I believe in the Alpha training method. I am only a believer with positive associations and reinforcements.

Niki Cap I actually got my dog in! Lure your dog in through the top opening and have him/her go in through the front opening. Bring them in all the way and have them sit while their head is still sticking out. Then while you’re treating them, close the front opening. Your dog might freak out and jump out the first few times but just tell them to sit and stay. Then, once they’re comfortable sitting, tell them to lie down (assuming they already know that command). Use a treat in front of their nose and bring it down into the bag while you’re telling them to lie down. Once they’re down, tell them stay, give them a few treats, then close the top. At first don’t zip them in for more than 3 seconds. Slowly increase the time. My dog is the biggest scaredy cat and he loves going into the bag now so you can do it too! Good luck!

I am getting ready to fly with my poodle and I just bought a scherpa bag like this one in the video...I was worried it wasn't big enough for him. My concern is that the airlines want your dog to be able to turn around and eat/drink, etc....there's not enough room in the bag for that. Will they still give me a hard time? My dog weighs 10 pounds.
