Everyone has been tearing into bethesda and fallout 76 for a year now. I want to say that people are beating a dead horse, but the horse just keeps getting back up and kicking little girls in the teeth.
Lol
The thing that everyone is missing though is that the game is apparently popular. If it wasn't people wouldn't complain and the $100 subscription wouldn't work like it is. People can bitch all they want but as long as dummies keep playing the game Bethesda has the last laugh
There is a simple solutions to that. Bethesda fans need to stick to their guns and not buy Bethesda games. If you give them money, that dead horse will keep coming back to life. Also giving them money means it's okay for them to be this way and burn any good-will they had.
Only because the horse is equipped with the Add-on horse armor for a mere $5

I think the biggest weakness of Bethesda is the writing. The team who write the dialogue, quests etc have clearly never read a book. Fallout 3 has such bad writing it’s actually incredible
New Vegas was referencing Hegel and made the player contemplate complex political questions. It makes the Bethesda games look like child’s play
You can thank Emil for that. His motto is "KISS" which means keep it simple stupid
Agreed, Fallout 3 doesn't make any sense
Fallout New Vegas was actually developed by Obsidian, that's why the writing was so much better, complex, and more dynamic in terms of player choice and dialogue consequences.
I could never play FNV for more than 15 minutes 'cause it felt like Oblivion with firearms. I played FO4 first and it was a nice experience, I wanted more. So I downloaded New Vegas again with textures and an ENB and finally got into it. After New Vegas I just can't enjoy FO4 story anymore because it feels so average and on rails. I tried FO3 as well and after spending a couple of hours modding it, I just stopped playing after like 2 hours because I was bored and I don't even know why.

@@damandhaliwal11 shiteaters defending their shit are like war - they never change .
Bethesda has a much bigger problem post-Starfield. Starfield was not as buggy or broken as Fallout 76, even though it was still buggy. But it didn't really get any backlash for it. In fact, Starfield came and went. So much so that you could've missed its launch entirely. No one really cared at all. It wasn't like Skyrim or Fallout 3 or 4 where people called in sick for work, or skipped school to stay home and play it for hours on end.
We've gotten to the point where no one cares about Bethesda's games anymore. They don't garner hype because people have been burned too many times. At least with 76 people still wanted it to be good, people still cared. Fallout, even at its worst, was still a unique world that engrossed millions of fans. Starfield was as generic as it could be. Devoid of any character, immersion, role playing, anything. It was painfully bland, in addition to being buggy and glitchy af.
I have 0 hope for TES 6. When it finally comes out (likely not even this gen) I'm sure it will be even more stripped down with even fewer classes. Hell they'll probably remove dialogue options too. And somehow it'll still be glitchy as shit. But no one will be upset because no one was excited for it to begin with.
And everyone will ignore elder scrolls six and go play baldurs gate 4. Bethesda is trash.
They should fire Todd Howard and hire former obsidian people

I do agree that the upset people that STILL buy Bethesda after knowingly getting screwed over are massive hypocrites. Hypocrisy is one of the biggest forms of weakness, because it makes you exploitable. It makes you weak. It proves you can't think with the ever-dying uncommon sense that we're left with these days. Same goes for the people still going to watch the latest Star Wars films. What makes anyone think that they're going to make ANYTHING better for the next film? They've bastardized and ruined any direct canon left, and they just want them to continue? Eesh. This is why we're in the state we're in. Losers and children with their moms' credit cards and wealthy dunderbrains throwing cash at lackluster franchises because they love them.
Nothing wrong with being a fanboy, but you gotta understand when your franchise needs your help.
And the best way to help a franchise is to NOT support their projects when they are deliberately volatile. If they are truthful and provide well, then they're worth the money. Better to not waste the money when a company like Bethesda is willing to dox and harass their playerbase.

And here we are 3 years later and Starfield is a giant disappointment.
How? Only thing I see people complaining about is the amount of loading screens. Everything else is amazing about the game.
The loading screens are just the tip of that mountain, though that is a huge problem.
Performance, crashing, ship builder is half baked, missing loads of QOL features, starmap is also underbaked and missing key features like a lookup or save favorites for places. 3/5 factions are short and relatively uninteresting (for me). Ai is buggy, looks awful, talk over each other constantly and just irritating to be around. Graphics are years out of date. Digipicking was interesting for the first few hours then becomes a slog because its overtuned and takes too long + everything is locked. Way too many skills to put points into. Ship combat is the barest of bones it could possibly be. Guns are uninspired and just dice roll stats, even special ones, overall weapon variety is just poor outside of ballistic weapons. Money is basically useless outside of ship upgrades. Way too many ammo types. Shop keepers don't have enough money. Resource gathering is pointless when I can buy everything from vendors at extremely cheap prices. The main story is cliche and done many times before. It's missing features that games with studios of under 20 people pulled off years ago. The economy is complete garbage, how is a ship only selling for around 10% of what it's worth? Less than that if you found/stole one because you have to pay way too much to register it to sell it.
There are so many reasons this game falls flat on it's face. I put in 85hrs into it, beat all factions and main story and it was just awful. I was so hyped for this game but it was a huge let down to me. @@ghost25killer
Nobody puts in 85 hours into a game and says its sh*t, you need some mental help if you dragged yourself for 85 hours into the game and didnt enjoy it at all. I put in like 50 hours and NG+ and love the crap outta it and my only gripe is the amount of loading screens for a "next gen game" is ridiculous especially after I just finished Spiderman 2 which literally has no loading times except the main menu. Starfield was a good game but you expected Starcitizen features out of a Bethesda game and that seems to be your problem lol@@GhostOokami
I paid for the whole game, I was gonna play the whole game lol. I didn't immediately hate it, it was an over time dissatisfaction. I did enjoy a few aspects of the game, specifically the Ryujin and Crimson Fleet, I loved those. The game itself is just a 4/10 game, 5/10 if they fix performance, which I doubt they will, it is Bethesda after all. If they got rid of 80% of the loading screens that would improve the game a ton, theres zero reason I need to load a 10x10ft room in new atlantis as a separate place. Maybe mods will breathe some life into and I'll go back but its gonna take some time. @@ghost25killer

Way to buggy on release to be considered a masterpiece
The game was buggy and the shooting was awful. It was a good game but far away from a masterpiece.
Listening to the developers from Obsidian about their experience working on NV, it's more or less their fault. Bethesda was upfront to them about the dev time, and the Metacritic bonus was optional, but they tried anyway. They were just too cocky that they could get it running in time. They still made a better game than FO3 imo, but putting all the blame for "what could've been" on Bethesda isn't right in this case.

Bathesda to sum up:
Their early bugs were cute
now they are just lazy af
They were lazy while developing Oblivion and Skyrim.
They are purely lazy. I can’t believe management played fallout 76 and decided yep it’s in a playable state, sell it.
everything was goofier at the time. Kinda fitted the theme
Thats what happens when you overlook mediocrity for too long. Undeserved 9.5s for years.
No, they weren't really lazy historically. They kept adding more stuff and weren't keeping up with the increased workloads being created for everything to work properly, but the level of detail to the new things they added has been pretty insane for the most part. It's just at the expense of polish, and losing a bunch of features you shouldn't have had to. I know some people who actually think some of the earlier RPGs were too complicated in terms of stats and stuff to keep track of, and I think they're wrong and you don't have to pay attention to that stuff to play their games, but it's a legitimate thing people thought, so the idea no one wanted streamlining is probably wrong, and they had to do work to redesign systems in that way as well (even if I don't agree with the ways in which they did this for the most part, even if I were to agree to them doing it).
Also, the first Elder Scrolls game, Arena, is ridiculously buggy, and that was before Todd or Gamebryo, and Battlespire is probably still their least functional title. They actually showed improvement after those in basically every way. Bethesda has always had most of the issues associated with it now (I'd attribute the development of microtransactions more to Nexon, publisher of shitty Korean MMOs that are much more popular than you might expect than Bethesda however, and I'd also credit Valve, who I think was influenced into this practice by Nexon, but that's another topic), but the problems are worse than when they weren't as relevant of a company.
It upsets me how often people forget what Bethesda did to Prey 2. That was an extremely hostile corporate takeover.
Prey 2017 is an amazing im-sim game, it's the fault of Bethesda forcing Prey IP name onto that game, to try to sell more copies
This is also why that game had awful, confusing marketing and sold worse than it should
Cancelled Prey2 due to quality concern but somehow released Fallout76 which was a buggy mess for a couple of years
Sucks.. cause its actually a great game. It's just not what the bait title suggested. Neuroschock would have saved it and possibly gave us another..

Getting hit by a giant in Skyrim and flying into the air is not a bug. Its a feature. A fun one at that
From what I know it started out as a bug with the physics engine calculating overkill values. Normally, the amount of knockback / force in a hit makes the target get pushed backward more depending on how big the overkill value was, that's just how the Havoc engine works.
With giants their super high damage meant that it had huge amounts of overkill damage, hence sending units into the stratosphere. The devs thought it was bloody fuckin hilarious so they intentionally didn't tweak their damage to remove it.
@@CrashB111 I heard they did remove it, but put it back in after backlash

To be fair that's true of most of Skyrim's bugs. The thing neither Bethesda nor decent chunks of the games press never really understood about Skyrim's success. It was never because it was a good game. The characters are bland, the quests are the definition of a mixed bag, the story is underwhelming at best, the world building is mediocre, and the combat is... a bethesda game...
The thing is, because it was such a perfect balance of buggy insanity and a playable experience,it came across as this chaotic world where anything can happen. And that's both fun and exciting... The bugginess quite literally became a feature of the game, and the best one too! It isn't a good game but it is a fun one to play.
It's also why when they followed the game design cues from Skyrim with Fallout 4 people were a lot less pleased. Cuz that game whilst yes still buggy, is less consistantly so, and it clashes a lot more with the post apocalyptic tone.

@@thomasbrennan607 many things were cutted, it could be one of the best games, if they don't rushed and launched it for console (yes, the cutted content was because of the lack of space in the DVD) it is a nice game, but could have been better... waaay better...

@@Sheovion i honestly love it more for the culture it spawned around it more than the game itself
I like The Elder Scrolls series but to an extent. My first TES game was Daggerfall back when I was a high-schooler and got my first home computer in the late 90's along with Unreal, Diablo, and Half-Life and I loved that game and got REALLY good at it to the point that I got every ending eventually. I played Morrowind a few years later and liked the game a lot too but after beating it once I didn't really see a reason to re-play it and I didn't know about modding back then. When Oblivion came out I was getting into modding and loved that game and would spend many, many hours playing it because I was out of school and had my own place so after work I'd drink some beers/smoke some weed and it was a blast honestly and I still love the game.
When Skyrim came out I got married to my wonderful wife and we had two kids so I couldn't get as invested into it but it was fun nonetheless, I hated the magic system, the levelling was waaaay too streamlined, and the side quests were very lame to say the least. Plus, 90% of the game was grey-colored and the NPC's were too serious with the exception of a handful.
I've never played Arena but I'd rank them like this -
1. Oblivion
2. Daggerfall
3. Morrowind
4 Skyrim
I enjoyed them all for the most part though but even with dozens of active mods I still can't manage to get into it like I did with the others.

actually it was like this:
- oblivion some rad flags but nothing too much to worry about
- fallout 3 some red flags
- Skyrim major red flags lots of stuff to worry about
- fallout 4 utter garbage and proof Bethesda is incompetent
- fallout 76 more of the same but even worse

You know this phrase: “unscripted NPC” always felt awkward to me! I mean, those NPCs are still acting according to the script! The only difference is that the script itself is more sophisticated and doesn’t just activates with one trigger but with a bunch of triggers or it just has several equally possible actions for the npc to do linked to one trigger. In the end npc is always controlled by the script!
I never thought of it that way. I think scripted means it's supposed to go down in one fixed manner. Like a scripted reality show or something. Being dynamic it can happen in several way which are seperately scripted ofcourse but as a whole it isn't.
HairySeagull
Yeah, maybe you’re right and the “script” here means something like a “movie script” that is not supposed to react to the player’s actions and just plays out at some certain point of time in the game...

@Tattle Boad Nah, they always did crap, the difference was they used to do ambitious crap like daggerfall and terminator skynet and future shock, now they do skyrim and fallout 4 which is just crap. For god sake, when todd talked about fallout 4 the thing he mentioned first was we need to make a first person shooter first then an rpg ... They cut down on the rpg elements with each game, there fallout looks like a parody of fallout 1 and 2, especially with the marketing of vault boy.
Tattle Boad I agree with you as well but I guess we’ll be on the stake together. NV shorter development time really shows. Smaller hubs, bland environment design, less locations. For that amount of time however, the main plot really showed Bethesda how the old boys roll. Fallout 3 is more fun to play, but less fun to play through.
@Tattle Boad Fallout 3 overdid the 50s theme. The 50s theme was one of the many themes, the original Fallouts dwelled upon. Fallout 3 was a good game, but a bad fallout game.

I never enjoyed Morrowind, but it was a TES game I could fully respect. Oblivion already had some iffy downgrades from Morrowind that I could notice, but overall it was a big upgrade in making the game more playable. And then came Skyrim, and people were going crazy over it for some reason, despite it being a less of a game than Oblivion in almost every way.
People probably enjoyed Skyrim because it was fun and a good game lol
Skyrim is for people who aren’t as into Bethesda games I think maybe less intelligent is good to them keep in mind I’ve played it a lot but would never say it’s story was anywhere close to oblivion you didn’t just become leader every guild you actually had a unique role in each one don’t get me started on the best dark brother hood quest ever but when I don’t wana think is much I go kill and grind in Skyrim
I never played an Elder Scrolls game in my life, but I have a friend who has. He has insisted that I play Skyrim multiple times (I still haven't), but he also said that he's 100% convinced that I would despise Morrowind.
Not sure of what all of that means.
I’ve also never gotten the hype for Skyrim, or how’s it’s been such a money maker for Bethesda. Maybe it’s just that the “Bethesda Magic(tm)” doesn’t work for me, but I just completely lost interest in the game not even a quarter of the way through my first play through late 2022, and I just dropped it to play other PS3/360 era hits that I hadn’t ever played (namely LA Noire and the Mass Effect trilogy) Eventually I just deleted it after it sat untouched on my hard drive for half a year or so. Starfield and New Vegas are the only “Bethesda” (yes I know NV is Obsidian Entertainment) games that I’ve played and completed. I did enjoy NV, but i probably wouldn’t have even looked in Starfield’s direction if it wasn’t free on Gamepass, and If I had another game I wanted to play I would have dropped Starfield, the same way I did with Skyrim. Because it is just like Skyrim, with how completely mid it is. So glad I didn’t spend a whole 70 bones on that game.
As someone whos first TES game was Skyrim, there was nothing like the sense of wonder, curiosity, and excitement it got out of me as a teen. It was a very pretty game, not to mention that TES lore is legit a whole layer of greatness that many, many games lacked, at least the ones I had played up to that point.
The game was hollow with a pretty shell, and I never really got the same feeling of anticipation and wonder from it after my first playthrough, but it still managed to trick me for a while. You see the game banked on making you empty promises, like seeing a mountain or some ruins, promising an exciting adventure only to leave you inevitably disappointed once you got there and saw that it's nothing but the same crap you've been doing for the past 10's of hours.
Compelling argument. Counterpoint: I am very biased towards them because I love Oblivion and Skyrim from my childhood, and they can therefore do no wrong.
I'm admittedly very blind to them. 76 was appalling, and yet, I'm still just as interested in Starfield. Part of that is not having the nostalgia I do for TES, for Fallout, with Fallout 4 being the only one I've actually played (yes, I know all about Fallout 1, 2, and New Vegas). I haven't immediately pre-ordered though, so I think my soul is safe. I just want TES VI...
We all have our guilty pleasures. I’m very over Bethesda for a lot of reasons that was covered here, and won’t be getting Starfield. That being said, I still play Destiny 2, yet I really hate what Bungie has become. How their writing has deteriorated into a nauseating modern piece of media and their game is offline multiple times a week. Yet I still play it.
Having concrete principles is pretty hard, so pick your battles where it’s important to you.
