Big fan of Vinted as a younger gentleman getting his foot in the door. My favourite purchase so far is an Austin Reed Covert Coat which appears to have been made in 1956 in Cheshire, for a grand total of £15!
I have very recently gotten into vintage clothing and my cousin took me to a Thrift Store that had several used dress shirts $.75 each, I bought 10 in my size as well as 3 blazers and 4 sport coats $1.25 each, all in my size, no alterations needed, also 5 silk ties at $.10 each. So yes bargains are out there to be had and all of these items were used but in great shape. For those of you doing the math, that's everything for under $20.00.
Ash, that double-breasted blazer looks so SHARP on you! It is classic, very elegant and frames your crisp collar and tie on a whole new level. You look lean and clean, like King Charles. It is literally the first thing I noticed when your video started. There something so wonderful about daring to try something new. Well done, sir!
I put my brass buttons from my USMC dress blues on a navy blue blazer as a way to reflect my service in civilian dress. Most people don’t notice them, which is the idea.
The thing that bothers me most about NOS or used clothing is that I didn’t discover it much earlier. I would have saved an amount I don’t even want to think about.
I buy 90% on Vinted now. The only issues I have, casual clothes (like long sleeve polos) are difficult to buy as many brands sizes fluctuate. When it comes to shirts I have all mine as Charles Tywhitt as I know the size, so know that the shirts will fit me well
Good day Ash I watched this latest offering in the wee small hours this morning and finally getting round to complementing you on your work . I to have just reasantly had a few bargains in the clothing department As I mentioned to you the other week The church shoes !!!!&the Grensons also Great delight the other week in finding a beautiful high wool dinner suit in the local hospice shop for a very reasonable figure MY quest is now to find a suitable double cuff white dress shirt that fits me . Great work very much a positive influence on my style journey 😊😊😊
Well played Ash..and doubly well played for raising the fact that we don't need to purchase new items when so many items are out there and more than deserving of a second life.
Great video Ash. I've used eBay and Poshmark before, and heard of Vinted although I had never actually visited the site. Just checking now, the service was discontinued in Canada in February of this year. Just thought I'd like you know. Cheers!
You put me on the track to Vinted - and I just ordered two Charlie Tyrwhitt shirts and a Dunhill silk tie for less than 40 euros. Hope everything fits! Thank you for the great content 👍
This video came at a perfect time. I just bought a pair of vintage Dake penny loafers for $22. For anyone who doesn't know Dake is an old Canadian company started in 1834 and they make high end dress shoes, a lot of which use exotic materials like alligators, reindeer, kangaroo even heard they had some rhinoceros leather. Essentially, I got a steal from the thrift store
Great pieces you have there!! Personally, I've done quite well at the thrift stores on the more suburban, wealthier sides of towns and areas, especially with vintage pieces... Jos. A Banks dress & polo shirts, Brooks Brothers ties & sweaters, Stafford brand sports jackets, even vintage cufflinks & tie bars... And as you have stated here at you channel before, knowing your exact sizing AND knowing a quality brand is the key... Also, never be afraid to buy slightly bigger/longer and have it tailored (or do it yourself if you're handy with a stitch)...
Excellent advice Ash! You're preaching to the converted in my case, however your statement about alteration solution going to your 'good old wife' may be one of your most dangerous statements LOL, see you in the dog house!
Agree with the concept of trying out new options using Vinted to see if they work. This way you won’t spend too much of it doesn’t pan out. Lovely examples Ash.
"People who say, 'I can't afford to dress well' - well, they're just not trying hard enough!" How right you are, Ash. Certainly, there are some amazing deals to be had on Vinted - I note that NONE of your 10 purchases breaks the £10 mark!
Having just recently discovered the world that is Japanese denim, research told me that at the top end, Hank dyed natural indigo is the holy Grail. But , the problem is the prices match the myth. So, a big search on all of the second hand websites got me to a 7 yeard old Pure Blue Japan denim jacket, made using the Hank dyed method. There was already à great reduction from the original RRP and with my slightly cheeky offer of £100 less than the reduced listed sale price, my offer was accepted and now I have this most very special item in my wardrobe. I therefore agree totally with your video.
I enjoyed this video and especially liked that polka dot tie! Your videos have encouraged me to try the pre-owned clothing market, and I now have a growing collection of Charvet ties and Hilditch & Key shirts that I would never have been able to afford. Cheers!
Brilliant Ash. Good things can be had so cheap, it's almost a game isn't it, with the added benefit it is the opposite of "fast fashion". I've had some items from Vinted I could never justify buying. Last week I had a Turnbull & Asser white shirt with French cuffs and a full collar very similar to the collar you wear in the video, worn, but no wear and a wash at 40 degrees will have it spotless... £20. I couldn't believe it was genuine, but the seams have T&A correct reinforcement and the buttons are shell, not plastic, so it is. Your buys look absolutely spot on too. Funny thing you say about Brook Tavener, I had a lovely fine guncheck jacket/suit coat from a chazza a few weeks ago and it's very very nice. Cheers again M.
Another excellent video I'm especially interested in that flannel shirt. It appears Vinted Canada closed in February 2024. So I guess it's back to eBay for me.
I’m coming down in size, so reluctant to splash out too much on clothing that may fit me for only a few months. I’ve been a Brook Taverner customer for years, so know their quality and fit well. Following your video I’ve just bought a 15.5” Brook Taverner shirt for 3 quid! We’ll see how it goes and will try to sell my larger garments on Vinted too.
Nice purchases. I don’t notice many auctions on eBay US. Vinted on the US Apple App Store does have a lot of complaints in the reviews. Maybe national differences on how they work.
checked out vinted, however not many options for my size (i wear a 36S in jackets), however its a really cool site! thanks for bringing it to my attention! really nice bargains you got, ash
While I actually shell a ton of money for made to measure suits and combinations actually find the occasional insanely cheap item - I bought a very nice dark brown fine corduroy jacket, 100% cotton with a silk lining in my size (!!! I need weird sizing because I'm tall and chubby AND can't put pressure in my waist because of a stoma setup - that's the reason I mostly buy mtm) for 12€ - what amounts to a joke plus another 15€ for my trusted alterations tailor to shorten the sleeves. Amusingly enough the son of my boss, whom I have sinisterly converted to classic menswear, *also* bought a fine corduroy jacket... in dark brown and had it sent to the workshop because no one was home... and I had mine sent to the workshop because it's easier to receive it there and of course we both opened the others package (because both where addressed to "Raab OST", no names...) and where confused and both quiet a bit grumpy as to the completely, dastardly misleadingly defined sizes...😅 And of course your bargains all deserve a compliment but the double breasted blazer kills it, it's a supremely awesome item and will look even more awesome with your RAF buttons! Best regards Raoul G. Kunz
I must admit, I prefer Vinted to ebay as well. I find better value pieces on Vinted. So many cheap Tyrwhitt shirts, Loake shoes and higher value pieces 😊
These are all excellent purchases, Ash, and real value for money. -You are absolutely right when you say that it doesn't cost a lot of money to dress well, especially if you are prepared to buy from thrift shops or various on line platforms. Unfortunately, it seems that the Vinted Canada site has recently shut down. I've grown more and more frustrated with buying second-hand items from eBay, due to their outrageous shipping fees to Canada, which are sometimes almost as much as the price of the items themselves, and the fact that I am paying more and more in import duties when these purchases reach Canada. (The current Canadian government appears to want to punish consumers for buying anything that cannot be purchased within the borders of Canada.) Fortunately for me, there are two excellent thrift shops and one excellent used clothing store in my neighborhood, and if one is diligent, and knows what to look for, real bargains can be found. The only caveat here is that you are restricted to purchasing whatever winds up being donated, and you might have to wait years for a particular item to materialize in one of these establishments. On top of that, I have issues with size. I've never found a decent vintage hat in my size: 7 7/8, or a decent pair of dress shoes in size 12 EEE. As for shirts, I need either a 17 1/2 or 18 inch collar if I'm going to wear the shirt with a tie -which I prefer to do except on the warmest days in July, August, and September. There must be somebody else besides me who follows your channel from Canada, Ash. Any Canadians out there with advice on on-line shopping? Are there platforms I could be using that I am not familiar with?
I live in the US. Can I purchase items from Vinted UK site? Would like higher quality clothing like is offered in the UK. It might be that shipping would negate any price savings.
Good morning Ash and the assembled Chappage You must be using a different Vinted to me 😂 I can't source anything, anywhere near the prices you are. I am still searching for a DB Blazer too, to which I will apply Corps buttons. I have a couple of Tattersall country-wear shirts, ideal, I agree, as the weather cools. I remain envious of your finds. 🫡
Big fan of Vinted as a younger gentleman getting his foot in the door. My favourite purchase so far is an Austin Reed Covert Coat which appears to have been made in 1956 in Cheshire, for a grand total of £15!
What a fantastic purchase! As young fan of Vinted as well, I am proud of a pair of TLB Mallorca shoes that I picked up for £23

I've never made finds like that, but I just bought a Pierre Balmain silk tie for 3,5€. Looks brand new, has propably only been worn a few times.

The colours of that tie suit you very well.

Love that blazer
great advice aint enough channels on youtube teaching new generation of men to look dapper
Fantastic purchases, Ash. Well done! Now I know who was beating me to it for all of the quality Brook Taverner gear I was after on Vinted! 🤣

Ash I did the same and put my parade uniform RCAF buttons on my custom blazer.

amazing, gonna try it here in the netherlands 🇳🇱
Also I used Klana and Clearpay to spread the cost of expensive items, just bought 2 pairs of trousers from Piniparma that way
Great video. BTW, there is still Debenhams in the Middle East, in case you feel nostalgic
Sharp Summer tie Ash.

The number one country for Vinted usage is in fact France, iirc.
It’s not available in Australia yet unfortunately.
Good advice ‘ol chap!!!

I bought a black tie suit from Zegna for 35 eur on Vinted. Worn once. Some minor altérations and voilà.

Omg vinted fantastic site.
Hmmm. Seems to me that a blazer with regimental buttons is crying out for a regimental crest, as well! 😉

Many people comment on how well dressed I am. Truth is the only thing I buy new are my underclothes and shoes every thing else is second-hand.
Do you have a referral link, or something like that, for Vinted?
What is a funeral celebrant? Sounds odd
They lead funeral service in the place of clergy in non-religious services.

Good alternatives to Vinted, if you live in Germany or Austria are KLEINANZEIGEN or in the Netherlands MARKTPLAATS.
