We used to make 5 of them in a star pattern, 6 in a square pattern and throw them like Chinese Kung Fu stars and they would explode on impact. A few years ago I found you could make a 4 stick star. Now you got me saving popsicle sticks to make the chain reaction.
the door holding it down is a neat thing. i'm picturing this being held down by a gate with the stick chain going along a path through a backyard, garden, etc you could very lightly sprinkle dirt/dust/sand whatever the path is made of over it to hide it. then when someone opens the gate it would be as if they spooked a ghost as the chain would go off lifting a cloud of dust quickly along the path.
When I was a kid I was shown star-shaped kinetic bombs with the regular (small) popsicle sticks. Then throw them like grenades. If I remember rightly, take the shape from :50 and add two more sticks.
Funny thing about this video... The same thing was done on The Big Bang Theory, and it looked really cool and fun, but now, thanks to this video, I can make one at home
