I made it my goal to get Prime Material Dragon onto the board and just sit there like a super villain as the Burn Player tries to figure out how to get out of it.
As much as this event was just burn strats I preferred it WAY more than the anxiety attack inducing 30 second event. After I finished that event I had to have a drink to calm my nerves.
I am giving this event all the golden stars. This event was AWESOME because the metagame pretty quickly evolved, was cheap to play and something which often gets ignored: Games were either really quick, or INSTANTLY really exciting. I kind of hope this one sees a revisit.
After i got my Demon title i went full anti-meta mode, determined to stall out every burn deck trying to empty their hand ASAP, playing i think 21 handtraps near the end of the event + Metal Reflect Slime + Guardian to cover normal summon beats + Aroma Jar + Cauldron + Golden Ladybug (i think it was named) for constant lifegain once a turn ending handtrap had resolved on their turn along with Damage Juggler + Hat Tricker which was 3 handtraps that also served as copies 4 5 and 6 of Hat Tricker. In an early version of the build i also played Neo Spacian Air Hummingbird as the 40th card as a windmill slam turn 1 play for a casual 2500 extra lifepoints.
In this event I stubbornly decided to play VW to turbo out the red dragon archfiend that burns using tzolkin, which burns for 2500 exactly if you have a full field. Anyway it took me 2 hours to get one win and finished the event 5 minutes afterwards
I played vatlantz and turboed out appo to protect from anti burn. Then gustav max and cowboy for game. Opponents not playing actual handtraps made it super consistent
I am sure everyone hated me for being the guy playing no handtraps dragon link just to spite the burn players with seals into prime material dragon + chaos angel
0:28 Hanewata, and Eco, Mystical Spirit of the Forest were the staple handtraps (and main deck monster being the performage). And the staple spell being "poison of the old man". D/D/D Rebel King Leonidas and D/D/D Oracle King D'Arc were, in my opinion, unexplored territory that could win you the game on their own. SPECIALLY Leonidas 5:26 DANG IT! I missed the chance to win that title!
This tryout duel was more entertaining than what i expected. Played, Swordsoul, Labrynth, Blackwings, Sunavalon, i saw people on Branded too...and completing the FTK secret mission in one day was nice too
I saw every anti-burn card imaginable throughout this event We have another Performage,Leonidas,Gorz funnily enough has a second effect and Eco is a card I like and was really happy it found an environment to shine in these 3 days
These events only work because they are so short. Give it a few more days and they would be really stall and boring. For once, they did the right thing.
I actually loved this event/ format. watching the burn meta evolve and adapt live at breakneck speeds was truly something. Meme Burn > Burn > Optimized Burn > Anti-Burn > burn @ anti-burn > burn @ anti-burn + removal for Leonidas all developed over the course of like one day. Really enjoyed the TT Thrust to search TT Talents to take their Leonidas so you can OTK though Leo line. 10/10 would play again.
I actually just did this event with my normal Swordsoul deck (bar some minor tweaks). A fair number of people were special summoning monsters and activating Spell/Traps without being able to remove Qixing Longyuan beforehand, so I was decently successful at just burning people to death without adding a single burn card outside the archetype.
This event allowed me to finally have a valid reason to main deck the emissary of darkness themself.. I also learned that the performages are kinda crazy when it comes to countering burn damage effects.. This was also the best event to grind the Duelpass insanely quickly.. Now I don't have to feel bad about not playing yugioh for a few days or so..
Very much enjoyed this event! I played 3 eco, 3 junkuriboh, 3 fire cracker, 2 hanewata, 2x Anchamoufrite, 2x duality, 2 pot of desires, 3 restructor revolution, 3 poison of the old man, and bunch of the other good burn spells (none of that 200 and 300 burn garbage lol). Had a lot of fun because of the counterplay that existed (weirdly enough for burn). There were decisions to be made at times like: do I want to reflect damage and have a body on board by risking letting the chain resolve for eco or do I want to negate the damage and destroy right away with junkuriboh to keep them off lethal (also hard counters eco and a few other cards which was super nice). Fire cracker being quick play was also nice and his “side effect” of skipping draw phase actually counters the time lord burn strat a bunch of players were using; the 1000 dmg was nice to use as bait for hanewata during their turn or to chain to hanewata and kill them before it resolves. Poison of the old man was a very versatile card as well since you could choose to heal instead of burn at times and get your opponent to miss lethal that way lol
had a blast in this event with dinomorphia subverting the expectations of all the people who have never read the second effect of any dinomorphia normal trap (which was seemingly everyone)
love how MBT went to get the Demon title, I wanted to do that to but then I realized I already had it because I spend the first couple months of MDs lifespan plaing nothing but Gem Knight FTK xD
i could've farmed my Demon title the boring way, but instead i decided to put together a dumb bad inconsistent Gallis deck to mill level 11s or 12s for oneshot lethals 10/10 would gallis again
If I played this I'd make a deck with as many anti burn tech as possible and fill the rest with 2100 atk free special summon idiots to dome my opponents for lethal, that Ecclesia normal summon was hilarious lol
so the best troll deck is d/d/d then. just search that one dude that completely prevents any form of burn or make the fusion that heals you instead and you can take people hostage that have probably no removal at all
Both events were a ton of fun! I enjoyed playing a bunch of random burn cards that I never would in normal play. As for the 30 seconds event I used a Ra deck that I normally can’t use competitively!
It's funny how you could play swordsoul for both extreme duels. The deck is fast if you just aim for chixiao barone blackout pass and you could always do chixiao and the burn synchro made with longyun so it burns for 1200 and then as soon the opponent activates a spell they get another 1200 and they are dead
It kinda sucks to see everyone getting the Demon tutle super easily, because I got it before this event by using Dark World and hoping my opponent drew maxx c
For this event I just played my go-to of Flower Cardians and tried to end on double Lightshower. Turns out double 1500 burn damage on their draw is pretty decent.
Actually played Swordsoul in the event and played against 1 burn player the whole time. Branded is what is pretty common when I played and It was basically Long Yuan to Long Yuan synchro pass for me cuz they can't do anything without triggering his burn
I made a zoodiac deck with the sole purpose of winning with boarbow direct attack. Going second was very risky in this format, but when it worked I felt so happy
I decided on Zoo FTK, using every rank 4 extender I could get my hands on to make Galaxy Photon Dragon to search Galaxy Wave and then start stacking Zoo monsters
if you didn't play burn deck in this event, you really missed the point of celebrating new year and we feel sad for you! this event point was to simulate firework in ygo (through playing burn), not a playing branded puppet lock event!
I think the reason these last 2 were fun was bc its kinda like battle bots, you either get a list or make your own and see how often it can do what it wants, and then you leave once you've had enough. I hope they can find more mini events like this more often because they are a nice break from ladder.
In the event I just used my normal shiranui deck and went against darklords. When i activated swallow slash to pop 2 of his cards he chained gift basket to which I was like "Ha you fool!" and chained soleminity (the trap that treats itself as it) only for them to chain a 2nd gift basket
I am SO glad I didn't catch covid until the 3rd and worst of the 3 events because the amount of fun shit I would've missed out on, particularly in the 2024 event, would've been horrible.
I had a great time playing D/D/D. I got some FTKs with multiple shots of King Tell while surviving my opponents with Leonidas. Tremendous Fire becomes an extender with him and Orthros!
Sword souls was the best deck for the event imo. Just it's standard combo line can take upto 3600 damage, not to mention you ending your board with minimum monster negate and 2 pops. You can add around 10 damage negates whilst still keeping the same consistency meaning your win rates very high going second, even playing non burn decks. Fair to say top 3 events on master duel to date
You just KNOW they knew people were gonna do this burn bullshit. Keep it coming. Keep giving us events that fulfill extremely specific title requirements.
I ended up playing Synchrons in this event to go into Life Stream Dragon, then on my opponents turn went Accel Stardust, turning Life Stream & Junk Converter into Black-Winged Assault Dragon, bringing back Life-Stream with Converter. It was one of the DUMBEST & funniest decks I've ever played.
I honestly want to see more events like this, I know it might take a fair bit of work but what if they made an extreme duel, but made it work like rush duels how wild would that be
I played a blind second anti-burn deck that even worked surprisingly well into "normal" decks. Damage Juggler was sick at killing Qixing Longyuans left and right and Hanewata into Special Photon Thrasher for game will never be not funny
Enjoyed the mini burn meta as it evolved, counter cards and whatnot starting to be played, as well as the near disappearing of Maxx "C".
Hanowata is the Maxx C of burn
Leonidas being an unbeatable menace unless you had exactly the Pyro Burn spell that burns for 1300+ to chain to Old man/Cracker was amazing
I made it my goal to get Prime Material Dragon onto the board and just sit there like a super villain as the Burn Player tries to figure out how to get out of it.
So many things crawled out of the woodwork just to counter a burn meta, a glorious time for all Burnie's
Burnie 2024
Heh. Burning woodwork
Leonidas is such a sick burn counter lmao. My favorite of the bunch.
@@eu4umi made a whole d/d deck just to have a laugh. Almost every time they saw joann they scooped
If we consistently get like one of these mini events like once a week, it'd be pretty awesome for the Game i feel.
It can be like Tavern Brawl in HS
Midweek Magic in YuGiOh
gimmie all normal monster event
Messing with rules would be neat too, like a 20 card deck or 100 card deck format, or something like no monsters or no special summoning

My favorite moment during this extreme duel was resolving Barrel Behind the Door against magic cylinder.
MBT proving yet again that the best way to play Yu-Gi-Oh is to play as little Yu-Gi-Oh as humanly possible.
This event was absolutely insane, I won one of my games by building a big burn chain with my opponent and then flipping Nature's Reflection.
0:28 Hanewata, and Eco, Mystical Spirit of the Forest were the staple handtraps (and main deck monster being the performage). And the staple spell being "poison of the old man".

I literally played this event for 4 hours just to max my duel pass. Quickest wins in Master Duel history.
Now i regret not having played more
Literally what I did 😂😂
same
Same. Finished in one weekend night. I bet that was an oversight and won’t happen again lmao
It’s a strange time in our life when burn is a fun way to play this card game.
I hate to say it but I really like this event, it eventually did get to a point where decks were getting really creative
These events only work because they are so short. Give it a few more days and they would be really stall and boring. For once, they did the right thing.
As a D/D player since 2017, seeing my boy Leonidas finally becoming a scoop-caliber threat in a format was a joy I know I'll never get to see again.
D.D Dynamite was also a possible threat when paired with Banquet of millions

This event was so silly, I loved farming the FTK Secret Mission while playing it.
I didn’t even know that mission existed until that event.
I loved how everyone had the same idea with getting the Demon title and would surrender if they went 2nd. Thus making it agonizing to get it myself.
I realized that was happening so I stopped surrendering if I lost the coin flip. I only surrendered if the person wasn't playing for the FTK
Stuff like that is why konami needs to have a penalty system for surrendering
I actually just did this event with my normal Swordsoul deck (bar some minor tweaks). A fair number of people were special summoning monsters and activating Spell/Traps without being able to remove Qixing Longyuan beforehand, so I was decently successful at just burning people to death without adding a single burn card outside the archetype.
