This was totally validating. However, I actually disagree with Mr. Beast’s method. I got stuck in the cycle of providing shock value content about how to go viral off RUclips and chasing the views. Because I didn’t focus on my personality and the og viewer’s needs, people left when I stopped doing that repetitive content they wanted. You’re not allowed to switch it up, the same way a television viewer would not be happy if it became a romcom when it was a serious television show. It’s better to be authentic and be happy with what you’re posting, although it isn’t the money making way.
oh hi Kelly!!! and yes- you're right - you have to stay true to yourself and if you change it up for views, it's also hard to maintain that connection with your viewers
Jed's really interesting because he likes making content but hates chasing after views or fame - so I got to dig into *why* he decided to go part-time on RUclips and start coding again - why he moved out of the content house - and what really motivates him. Honestly after this pod I kinda sat by myself and was like - okay how do I become more zen like Jed and care less about external validation haha
Loved this interview with Jed. As a small content creator I 100% resonate with the dynamic between wanting to chase views vs wanting to make videos that I actually care about. It's refreshing to see a successful youtuber like Jed being so thoughtful about not chasing external validation, and his authenticity is what keeps me watching his vids - thanks for posting!
Jed seems like a guy with great personality, creativity flows over him even tho coding is contrasting with that creative/content creator side of him. I’ve discovered his channel a couple months ago, and he actually inspires me to do cinematic type of vlogs
Great interview! Jed is massive inspiration for me as someone around his age, I'm one of the many people that was influenced by his videos to pursue a career in computer science lol. Plus there is just something about the atmosphere that he creates in his videos that you can't find from any other lifestyle creators. Overall, the fact that he's just a regular guy who likes to code and work on side projects, and make videos because he has a passion for it, all while surrounding himself with positive influences, just serves as good reminder for what I want in my own life.
Cracked me up when Jed described Guam as “peanut shaped” 🤣👌🏼I didn’t think of that! 🇬🇺 Just moved out of the islands because it’s hard to grow in the tech industry.
Great vid Eric! As a viewer of Jed's channel he could definitely lean into the entrepreneurship angle if he wanted to. I still want to learn more about his thinking behind RateMyDorm.
Content Ideas for Jed: - What i spend in a day in NY - What's your morning routine - anything about rate my dorm (fr) - one of these silent vlogs, where you only have captions btw i honestly watch Jed, because he's chill. Always happy, when a new Video comes out. And banger Interview Karat 🫶

Really enjoyed this interview and hearing Jed's perspective on creating and staying passionate. Great job hosting as always, Eric!
Awww thanks for watching 🥹
the chill intro music rather than the intense one is much better. fits jed's vibe too
Yes go Jed!!! 🎉

yea i agree! i know he said he didn't want to milk his startup for content - but i still think there's a lot people want to know about it
you guys have any plans on interviewing wholesomesimon? :3
33:20 "testicular fortitude" killed me 😂

I always love your videos Eric, but my main question is: where can I get a jacket like yours?
It’s from VidCon - RUclips made them custom and gave them away to creators!
@@trykarat Aw, too bad! Was looking to buy one of those. Thanks anyways 😊
Eric sounds exactly like Graham Stephan
I get this a lot haha
We did a pod w Graham recently if you wanna watch! Someone commented “it sounds like one guy just monologuing to himself”
Jed when are we boxing? 😅 26:19
bro jed sick shirt, where did you cop?
damn just realized it's his own merch. sick!
love it jed
i disagree, i think he can make way more vids on rate my dorm. he should look into Daniel Dalen and his vids “26 year old entrepreneur in china”
Content Ideas for Jed:
- What i spend in a day in NY
- What's your morning routine
- anything about rate my dorm (fr)
- one of these silent vlogs, where you only have captions
btw i honestly watch Jed, because he's chill. Always happy, when a new Video comes out.
