No travels or double dribble calls . Everyone just shooting 3s including centers. Players taking games off players joining up for super teams ...which isnt much of a thing anymore really unless you're Lebron. Players basically running the team as the GM I get you want the players input but to give in to the player's every wish and demand is ridiculous.

Bingo. This is the answer, but it’s even before the play-in tournament started, which just further proves how much this change isn’t helping either.
The NBA changed their playoff format around the same time that load management became a problem, and they have been too stupid to understand what they did and how it changed their game. Yes, players are much lazier today than they used to be, but the players are lazier now because they can afford to be lazier now. The regular season no longer matters, and hasn’t mattered for nearly two decades now. Pop was the first to recognize this, but now the whole league (and their fans) have caught up.

Live by the sword, die by the sword. The NBA didnt want to promote and teach fans growing up to love their teams over the players like the NFL and MLB did and for a while in the 2000s it worked for the league as a whole, making money hand over fist marketing the players more than the franchises. Now comes the cost of that decision, they need superstars on every team and they need them playing continually. You dont see NFL fans saying they want their money back if a team switched to its backup QB or if the RB2 is starting because their star RB fumbled twice the previous game. Same with MLB with star starting Pitchers, or an off day for elite closers, etc. Their fans love their teams no matter what. NBA fans just want to see their guy play and if the team wins its a bonus.

NBA chases casual fans even knowing that it turns off die-hard fans. What happens when you catch the attention of the casual fans? They might watch for a while, but as they get closer to becoming real fans, they start to see the gimmicks. So the obvious problem is that the more someone watches NBA, the more frustrated they get and they stop watching. The NFL gives you an exciting game, but they don’t dumb it down. Football has a lot of moving parts and it takes time to understand the intricacies of it. It’s not a game for the casual fan to really understand. Yet it’s the one thing that in 2024 tens of millions of fans will sit in front of a television for over three hours to watch.

It’s hypocritical for LeBron to be the one now, in the face of criticism, that commits to 82 games “if healthy,” but he’s the one that was the pioneer of the healthy scratch. He would sit out road games in small markets, often disappointing fans that payed to come and see him on what was scheduled to be his only regular season game in that market. I remember that happening in Memphis and Oklahoma City, I think, and I’m pretty sure that he sat out multiple games in Indianapolis over the years.

Most young fans today don't really watch the game. They only watch the highlights. Even when they turn on the games, their eyes are mostly on their phones texting. They don't really pay attention to the game. So I don't know if all those commercials actually reach them because they are not even watching the game itself. This is why TBS would rather do college football than to overpay for the NBA. They know the real number and how much they actually make. Amazon is willing to overpay for the NBA package because they want to use it to get more people to sign on to their Prime package. Let see if it will work out the way Amazon want, otherwise they will lose money on the deal.

The way you solve this load management nonsense is reduce the number of games from 82 to 58. 29 opponents. Each team plays every team twice 1 home and 1 away. Get rid of divisions and conferences. The top 14 teams make the playoffs instead of 16 with the top two getting first round byes. Two less teams make the playoffs and there’s just 58 games making each game more important! As far as the three point shot goes, turn the hoop into a double rim. Everyone knows that a double rim is much more difficult to shoot on. These simple changes will make a big difference.
