A ten year old child singing a song that Judy Garland made famous is a tall order, and Britney killed it. The industry did her so dirty by not allowing her to truly use her voice as she got older, among everything else they did to her.
Man, she had such a deep resounding and amazingly mature voice at 10. And then she had to be molded into this girly pop singer that focused on her high range and sounding all cutesy and breathlessly sexy in her 20s. Wasn't ever really a fan of her pop persona, but the singing in this is amazing. I get chills at how she sings "there's no one who can faze me by calling me crazy."
She's such a powerhouse. To be this wise so young to chose this song. God bless. FREE BRITNEY
i have tears in my eyes watching this. this little girl who the industry just destroyed. she wouldve been just as much a powerhouse as her peers if they had just let her sing naturally
She performed the song with everything she had. Embodied it. Personality, whims, affect and bodily mannerisms. Absolutely adorable and truly quite the feat for such a young kid who likely doesn't fully grasp the lyrical content.

I love this performance. It definitely shows that Britney could sing before the "baby voice". I wish she would use her natural voice more often. But, ironically, some singers I like, Delta Goodrem and Karine Hannah, were either strongly encouraged to sound like Britney and/or they themselves wanted to sound like Britney. Delta recorded the song "I Don't Care" where she sounded very Britney like. Fortunately, that single bombed. The album it was from was shelved and Delta recorded a new, different debut album with her regular singing voice where she wrote/co-wrote most of the songs. Karine released an Indie album, "I'll Be Alright" where she co-wrote songs with other songwriters including Turkish American songwriters. On that album she sounds like Britney a lot on some of the songs, not showing how really powerful her singing voice really is, very often. In other words, Karine could sound like Britney and she could also sing a very difficult and powerful song like "And I Am Telling You" from Dreamgirls with as much power and ability as Jennifer Holliday and Jennifer Hudson. I know, because I bought Karine's cover of that Dreamgirls song several years ago. Karine is also great live singer based on RUclips videos of her live performances. Karine released two Indie albums using a Britney like voice on most of the songs. Only really showcasing her voice on a few songs. It was really odd for me, hearing one of my favorite big voiced female singers intentionally singing like Britney Spears and under singing to the nth degree. Even Jessica Simpson did some Britney like songs.

The only cover of a Judy number I'll accept 🤣. Such talent at such a young age. Ironic how the industry took both Judy and Britney and abused and exploited them . Things really never changed much since the golden age of Hollywood.
Everybody makes fun of her singing but if they searched this they'll be asking why the fk they made her change her voice?! I don't understand. Why do her vocals seem so much better then than now?
Vocal chords are muscles, and singing in a different way over a long period of time will weaken them, that voice is still there, it just times time to build that vocal strength up. Even opera singers have voice lessons to maintain what they have.

The difference between Britney and Christina is that Britney went in there and poured everything into her performance. Christina went in there thinking she was the only kid in America with a good range. She thought ppl were gonna be so blown away by her hitting high notes that she forgot to make her performance interesting and she got beat out by another little boy with just as good a range but with a better performance. That's also why Britney became more successful because Christina only has her range. She doesn't have any other qualities that make her special.

apparently that's how Christina was still doing her concerts as an adult. She turned up, did some of her weird vocal gymnastics (which I think sounds like someone giving birth) did a few dance moves and left. A very nice shine performance with no feeling. It doesn't surprise me that she faded away.
I believe until she went into meltdown and party phase Britney's performances were exciting and full of energy. Later I get she just walked around the stage, lip synced and phoned it all in and I believe her longevity is more down to PR now than being a legend of the music industry.

Aw she was so cute with her missing teeth and, those star search judges will forever regret their decision and would have never made it if they looked into the future to see what a wonderful woman she would become.
