I could *maybe* understand if they were talking about the 2001 performance of I'm a Slave 4U, but the 2000 sparkly outfit? It seems like an overreaction even for back then. And the whole "what if my 12 year old wants to wear it?" oh idk, maybe tell them Britney isn't 12 here and it's appropriate for *her* age but not your child's? Be a parent instead of wanting to police Britney's life and putting the responsibility on her.
For real and she was 18 at the time so she had all the right to dress the way she wanted lmao and people are overreacting but it’s was a MTV show HELLOO it wasn’t Disney Channel or Nickelodeon 😂😂
The skin tone outfit at the 2000 VMAs looked nude because tv was still standard definition back then. Today’s HD & 4K would’ve picked up the seams much more clearly.
I was like 8 at the height of her fame and I didn't beg my parents to dress like her lmao people are so crazy thinking that children are such sponges that they can't possibly have any common sense or their own personalities and styles. Britney inspired me because she was the epitome of female power and strength. That is why she was my idol when she was at her peak not because she wore skimpy outfits that I just 'had' to emulate lol
Exactly! People are still arguing this now when it comes to artists like Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Olivia Rodrigo, etc. Like Britney said, she’s not their mom. It’s the parents’ job to parent how they see fit. Britney, or any other female artist, isn’t responsible for the choices kids make. It’s a pointless statement anyway. I have never once heard a young child say “Mommy, I want to wear super revealing clothing with only sparkly beads covering me because that’s what she’s wearing!” No. They will say “Mommy, look how pretty her outfit is. I want something with sparkles on it!” If they’re not that young then they’re usually in the age range where they’re teenagers or about to become teenagers and at that age it doesn’t matter what a famous singer wears when performing. They dress themselves how they want to, whether that’s based off what is supposedly trendy according to social media, their own unique style, or from the choices of clothes they see when shopping. They’re not going to go around wearing nude colored spandex with diamonds covering certain parts or leotards and no shorts or pants. Those are what performers wear. It’s not like Britney was strolling around wearing it to the supermarket, lol.
Children ARE sponges and emulate celebrities, influencers, the popular girl at school and what they see at home. Psych 101, goofy. This is why some of them now think they have 59 genders, want to take hormones and why some of them go on to have terrible relationships bc they do what they saw with their parents at home. If adults (18+) were flying to Ulta to buy the latest palette *insert RUclipsr* recommended or made or were off to get jabbed & masked bc you were told to,what makes you think a child has the maturity and mental capacity that most adults don't even have?
I don’t think it’s about wearing a certain outfit as much as absorbing the message that sexy is in and wholesome is not. So as the girls grow to preteens and teens their impression is I have to present myself in this sexy way or people won’t like me. I can’t just get the boy by being my fun goofy self. I have to get him to think I’m sexy by looking or acting a certain way because that’s what people like. It’s not just Britney Spears. Pop culture is sending that message to young girls all the time. But I believe that’s why Britney caught the flack she did.
I have so many things to say about this. 1. Why are they filming her watching people say these kinds of things? She seemed hurt by some of the people that were saying rude things. I just don't get the point. 2. I hate when people would say that she wasn't a role model, etc. I remember that she has said that she's not multiple times, because she really isn't. She is a performer and that was an outfit for a show. I grew up with Britney since I was 5 and never once did I take anything that she did as Bible (1. because my parents would beat my behind and 2. because I understood that we are not the same. I was a kid and she was older than me and could do different things) and 3. f them kids and their opinions. I'm sure that most people who were critiquing her were not as saintly as they made themselves out to be. I loved when she got sassy on them because honestly... who cares about what they had to say. She's Britney Spears lmao
1. This was a reaction video before reaction videos was a thing. 2. Role Model was a term associated with being what we call now to be an influencer. It was thrown around loosely. Britney was never an actual role model to kids nor ever wanted to be. If kids wanted to dress like her, they couldn’t because of their parents and school dress codes anyway. If they did dress like Britney, that’s their parents fault for buying clothes like that for them to wear. 3. I think the sassy comments were rude given that they were directed to them, when their comments were directed at their interviewers not Britney herself. Some of them would’ve NEVER said the things they said to Britney herself.
@@daviewz9335 Referring to 3. They still were saying shit about HER, knowing it's very possible that she would see and hear it (and also that their words might influence others' opinions and do harm to Britney, which is even worse), and she simply returned them the audacity they had addressed to her. More, she was super young and just couldn't handle that unexpected flow of criticism easily. It's not about some of those people's stupidity and heartlessness though, it's more about that of MTV producers and the whole industry. Yet, some of them interviewed people suck as well.
Well, that's good for you but so many fans of Britney Spears were heavily influenced by her like me. There was definitely a different me before and after becoming a fan of Britney Spears. It's only after years that I realized how much it made me sexualize myself in several aspects as a teen. She definitely was my role model and she was the role model of MANY other teens who were indeed influenced to act more sexy. So it's cool that it wasn't like that for you but it's not the experience for everyone.
@@Raphael-2 I grew up in the 80s and I was heavily enamored and influenced by Madonna. Those who say celebrities aren't role models and hold no influence to children is a dangerous copout. I just read the part in her memoir where she talks about this. She was deeply hurt. It's crazy how that outfit was considered "skimpy". Nowadays, pop singers are always half-naked (or completely naked) and no one bats an eye. Poor Brit was really a victim of an incredibly sexist era.

Britney can wear what she wants!!! Parents need to parent, and teach their daughters about why it's not OK for young girls to dress a certain way, and talk about why celebrities dress the way that they do.
it’s always female celebrities who are pressured into becoming role models for kids, never the male ones. imo PARENTS should be the role models for their children
The fact that they even had her sit down in front of cameras to hear people discuss her performance and what she wore was a set up in my eyes. I felt uncomfortable watching her listen to people talk about her. What she had on wasn't even bad as people made it out to be. I remember watching the performance that night on TV and what she had on didn't shock me. What shocked me was the way she worked that whole stage. That was a incredible performance. Sometimes i wished Britney would've took a page out of Beyonce hand book and stopped allowing herself to be reprimanded in front of a audience. It’s not like Britney was strolling around wearing it to the supermarket, lol.
well said (clap emoji)
Children ARE sponges and emulate celebrities, influencers, the popular girl at school and what they see at home. Psych 101, goofy.
This is why some of them now think they have 59 genders, want to take hormones and why some of them go on to have terrible relationships bc they do what they saw with their parents at home.
If adults (18+) were flying to Ulta to buy the latest palette *insert RUclipsr* recommended or made or were off to get jabbed & masked bc you were told to,what makes you think a child has the maturity and mental capacity that most adults don't even have?
Yes exactly!
“LUTTLE CHULDRUN”, I’m DONE with her 😂👸🏼💕
@@calisongbird ahh yes the
always offended by everything and everyone police
Mtv sucks for doing this
Well, that's good for you but so many fans of Britney Spears were heavily influenced by her like me.
We are seeing this with vast increase of teen girls chopping off theirs breast due to the non-binary ideology being pushed by celebs.
I just read the part in her memoir where she talks about this. She was deeply hurt. It's crazy how that outfit was considered "skimpy". Nowadays, pop singers are always half-naked (or completely naked) and no one bats an eye. Poor Brit was really a victim of an incredibly sexist era.

I remember my mom saying every one was over reacting and she had a skin colored outfit on. I remember watching this performance with my mom. My mom would literally tell me when Britney was on tv so I could watch her and anytime my mom saw anything with Britney at the store she would buy it for me. I remember my mom coming home with a diary for me because it was a Britney Spears diary I was 10. I remember my mom buying me all her cds and many of her cds landed around my bday and dvds and even a Barbie doll when I was 8. I remember my mom always saying she was such a good dancer and performer the only thing that ever bothered me that my mom would say is that Britney couldn’t sing but my mom did enjoy her performances and never talked down about how she dressed. My mom wore cute clothes herself. Shorts and crop tops in the 90s. My mom had me at 28 so idk if it was just because my mom was still young but my mom also never had a problem with gay people ever in her life either.

Why did they sit her down and make her watch this.
Reporters would ask her very inappropriate questions about her sex life, and how her body looked at that age and i thought to myself "man they build Britney up to only break her down".
