Wasteland - Generative Modular Longform Ambient

- Pretty simple generative evolving longform piece on the eurorack system.
Recorded direct to Bitwig Studio on a Macbook Pro via ES-9/Arturia Audiofuse.
Video shot on a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k with a Sirui 35mm anamorphic lens + 1.25x anamorphic adapter. Editing and colour grading done in Da Vinci Resolve.

Patch notes for the modular people:
Bitbox Micro: Playing looping sample created in DAW with Lunaris.
Lead voice 4ms Ensemble osc.
Trigger from Marbles T1 to Ladik Skipper (50%) multed to ADSR1 + ADR2. ADSR1 AMP to Output ES-9, and mult (copy) goes into Magneto for processing. ADR2 into attenuverter (Poles) then into Twist input on 4ms Ens. which sounds like the filter opening on the Ens. to give that Vangelis brass sound. Med speed Sine CV from Batumi through attenuverter (Poles) also modulates Balance input on 4ms Ens. (with Detune set to about 50%, change in Balance adds some of that detune from the 2nd voice into the main mix). Pitch/1voct controlled by Sinfonion Ch1 Output. Sinfonion Ch1 input from Cara/Marbles X1 Output.
Chainsaw (bass)
Sinonfion Ch3 to 1voct Chainsaw, unchanging. C#. Chainsaw in SAW mod lots of detune, stereo outs to stereo in on Vult Freak filter with cutoff modulated via URA R-Flux output.
Twin Waves bouncing ball (Sine wave)
1voct from Sinfonion ch2 via RndStep ch1 biopolar output (trigger T3 from Marbles through Skipper at 50%), Sample source: URA Out B. Twin Waves Sine out to Delta V VCA 1 Ch1 set to triggered LFO mode for bouncing ball effect fast attack, with delay modulated via Batumi attenuated sine LFO. Output of Delta V ch 1 into VCA of Ch2 in envelope mode slower attack and delay so that bouncing ball effect ramps in/out.
Marbles Spread modulated via Ochd slow LFO.
Marbles Rate modulated via Ochd slow LFO (attenuated)
Magneto for interesting synth flurries by sampling copied output from Ensemble osc. Magneto in Loop and Shift mode (yellow). Repeates modulated via Ochd LFO (attenuated). Infinite reverse and play inputs triggered by Greyscale Permutation outputs 2,5,8. Magneto set to Wet out only.

every one of these field recording layered ambient sessions is really fulfilling. I personally feel them as being more whole and central when the electronic nature of the synth waves is grounded in the particular warmth and richness of the natural worlds analog wonders.

I am envious of your rig😋. I’ve been listening to all your work here for several months now. I am old, retired, and had to sell my older modular rig a few years back sigh. Now I am trying to accomplish this style (much like Steve Roach eh?) with Vsti etc. I have been a live sound engineer as well as a recording studio engineer (the analog days-splice splice splice the tape) as a young man, so I appreciate your set up, quality of sound and compositions. Same here sound engineer now retired allso done studio work and live gigs, and sound bites and voice overs...but in some ways it took over my life and ended up sleeping in the studio most nights, no social time, and kinda messed up a couple of relationships,, but it was a good few years ago, but I sometimes miss it...

such an epic masterpiece! ive watched this so many times and really appreciate the patch notes. Can I ask why you keep the ES9 in a separate skiff? I get an awfull lot of noise/hum from mine and maybe you've solved the problem? Much obliged. And keep doing your amazing videos!
Thank you! Exactly, I keep the ES-9 in a small pod isolated away from noise of the larger cases, I don't notice any noise at all anymore.

@@Antonrl93 Do a search for 4MS Pod 20 (20hp pod), I have a slightly larger one, but the 20hp is all you need and it's deep enough to fit the ES-9 just fine and leaves you 4hp for spare. They come with a power brick, you need might need to buy the cable.

Ah, it's great to see you doing generative stuff as well. Is it something simple like an RNG and/or a simple state machine, or is it the fancy Deep Learning type shit?
There's no AI going on, it's just random/noise some probability for notes, triggers etc which are then limited by musical scales and notes.

Woah, widescreen. Did you crop this or use a certain lens?
Lens and camera are in the description. I used a 35mm 1.33x anamorphic lens with an anamorphic adapter at 1.25x on top of that, even at 2.39 aspect ratio I still needed to zoom in a little, so it could have been even wider.
@@stateazure Yeah it looked too good on my 4k 50" but I know what I can do in post and with your mouse smoking away I had to assume some tomfoolery BTS. I'd like to see that rig tho. GJ.

It would be close, since the sounds would be the same but it wouldn't ever repeat exactly the same.
