imma keep repeating what everyone else has been saying. the favor tokens has solved something that felt unsolvable, which was to automate negotiation mechanics in a game. previously, if there was any negotiation involved in a game, solo seemed impossible to emulate that experience. this looks great.
Ordered the game because of the outstanding playthrough (which I started watching after someone mentioned how good the solo implementation is). I own Pax Pamir too which I love (solo as well). This game is quite different of course, it seems so unique, a true work of art. It'll be delivered here tomorrow, can't wait!
I do love the way the promise cube economy mirrors how things would be between players. "Yeah the Crown's pretty annoyed with me right now," you say, looking at your zero promise cubes. Well, you did just bully her presidency into spending all its money on a failed invasion of Madras....
29:20 do they transfer 2 writers if 2 writers existed in the madras area? So does the crown try and repeat the top priority action multiple times before moving to the next one?
no, for DoT transfers they work down the list from top to bottom doing each step just once, no repeats . (Note: this is different from the Military Affairs priority list for assigning officers, when it will start again from the top each time.)
It's a good question, but the answer to that one is likely simpler than you realise: yes, they do need to go back to where they started; but you don't need to remember, as the Order they are filling forms a trade route back to the home port of the presidency they belonged to, so you just put them back there. i.e. in practice it's obvious where they came from, and thus where they should go back to. Does this answer? best wishes, Ricky
The climate design concept is nice. You have essentially given the AI a dynamic play style. I think more games should have this, maybe even in multiple dimensions: friendly, submissive, aggressive, vengeful, introverted, trickster, heroic, petty, calculating, intuitive, etc. And if it's done right, the player(s) don't even have to know "what it's thinking".
1:04:08 Peace event tells you the orders that join across the border where the elephant is. Rulebook page 31: Peace: "Open any orders that are connected through the border the Elephant stands on."
@@BoxofDelights Yeah obvious :-) English not my native, so i tend to misinterpret the wording. I need to pay more attention to those details. Thx for pointing that out.
not once they do not have majority: I was doing it retrospectively, so did it out of step. i.e. I was retrospectively buying her cubes before I did the trade of shares, and you are right to point that out, because I didn't make that clear - good spot!
@@BoxofDelights Sorry to be so dense. but at the end there are three red and three green shares (including the chairman), Does chairman break ties for majority? I am missing something.
@@gibsonc22 You have it totally right; I was just doing it retrospectively... if you rewind, the Crown started with more shares than I, and I bought a couple of cubes; then I traded a share, losing her majority, so I could not buy anymore cubes (as you correctly point out); but I was trying to say, instead of buying just 2 cubes, I would have bought 4, whilst the Crown still had the majority, prior to me trading shares. Of course, as you say, at the moment I actually did this 2nd 2-cube purchase, I couldn't have legally done so: I had to do it retrospectively (to before I did the share trade).
Hi Ricky, so the initial starting "5" that is in the company balance is assumed to be sitting in the Company's bank account somewhere ready to deploy (as it has not been allocated to the visible treasuries)? You take 10 debt, but deploy 15 in funds, so I am just assuming the starting "5" is sitting in an abstract bank account.
@@BoxofDelights I hope, if there ends up being a third edition, Wehrle takes it under advisement that the rulebook needs a very clear labeling of the board. It took me way too long to figure out where the company balance went, but a fully-labeled board would have made that instant.
The only advice I have is to try not to internalise and remember it, but to follow it programmatically when it comes up, and only when it comes up. The player aid is a great help too.
you can invade a presidency's HOME region (the one with the port), or any region ADJACENT to a region already associated with the Presidency (where "associated" means it was previously invaded and controlled). So, you start at the home region and spread out to adjacent regions from there. So yes, the army of Bombay can invade Punjab, but only once the home region of Bombay is invaded and under company control. Make sense?
@@BoxofDelights Yes.Thx. So that means, that if i dont have any Presidency , which is adjacent to a region i want to invade, a cant invade that region.

Your videos are always sooo clear and you've made an intimidating game accessible thank you
Loving this Rick, can't wait for my physical copy. That Crown is a bit tricksey though.
Thanks for this playthrough. It will be really helpful when I get my copy!
Wow, I watched 3 other videos and still didn’t have a clue how this game worked, but after this I feel like it would be second nature. Nicely done!
Enjoying this! Thanks for yet another great playthrough :)
my pleasure!
Simply the best solo system ive ever played!
1 hour into the video, and you've convinced me to buy the game for solo only. "Dam you, Ricky!" (said in the voice of Bianca from Eastenders)
haha.. that's going back a bit....
@BoxofDelights that's probably the last time I watched it, when I was allowed to stay up by my parents!

Is this the same 1710 setup that for a multiplayer game? Because I would have sworn that Punjab had no flag on its dome in the setup card.
It is the same setup card, yes. It does have a flag, yes.
Thank you. I totally missed it. Although I should've guessed. Otherwise, it was too easy to deploy there for the loot!

Does the prime minister pass from the crown when the vote fails?
Only if they voted FOR and we voted AGAINST, or they voted AGAINST and we voted AGAINST by more votes then they did.
I notice you keep ignoring the promise cards. Aren't they supposed to be essentially 5 more cubes? Are they used any differently in solo?
Keep watching !
