  • The Nagashi Bina is a ceremony held every year in the beginning of Spring, at the Shimogamo Shrine of Kyoto. The main attraction of this event is a couple dressed like the traditional Hina dolls.
The lady on this ceremony wears a Juni-hitoe, which is a 10 layers Kimono. As part of the tradition, Hina dolls are released on the water stream that crosses the Shimogamo Shrine, with the believe that these dolls absorb the evil and bad spirit and take then away, protecting the soul and health of the children.
Different personalities from the city of Kyoto participate on this event. On the video we see two Maiko (Geisha apprentices) leaving their dolls on the sacred water. Also we see the Mascot of the Kyoto Tower, "Tawawa-chan" putting her/his own Hina Doll on the water.
At the end of the video children from a local school sing the traditional song of the Hina Matsuri.
