    I remember when the SRT was built. At the time, many experts and even ordinary people said it was the wrong design for a place with our winter climate that can get extremely cold and very snowy. But the TTC and city and provincial politicians wouldn't listen. They were too much in love with the then-new technology.
    The first winter after it opened, there were days when the SRT was closed because of too much snow blocking the tracks, and/or extreme cold freezing the switches. And there were many more winters like that. Even when the SRT was running, passengers suffered from the icy winds that blew through the station.

      Actually, the TTC really did not want to use these, in fact, they were already mid construction planning on utilizing streetcars (not LRT) when the provincial government stepped in and basically strong-armed the TTC, which they could not do anything else as they were the main funding for the project. See the loop out south of the RT platforms at Kennedy station? Yeah, it was built originally for the streetcars to loop as they only have one cab. That is why it's no longer used (only sometimes for storage, very rarely), it is simply too tight and cause too many derailments.

    Back in the day, graffiti covered every meter of the back-sides of those buildings. Some were shit, but a few were just amazing. Thanks for showing us the current value

      @@JohnnyStrides I do not know much about Richmond Hill, i'm planning after the lockdowns are over and the weather warms up to take a weekend trip to Toronto to get away for a bit and Richmond Hill is on my bucket list of places to see while in the area. I did some research and it seems like a interesting place. They have in downtown village outside the Richmond Hill Performing Arts Centre, a 14 foot statue of two dancers made of bronze and granite. It was erected for the 140th anniversary of the town, a heritage centre, a very pretty park with a lake called Lake Wilcox in the Oak Ridges neighborhood and a observatory with Canada's largest optical telescope. Interesting history too, it was the starting point of the Rebellion in Upper Canada led by William Lyon Mackenzie.

    • @ThomasJM
      @ThomasJM 3 года назад +5

      They have them at Kennedy and at Scarborough town centre stations. However the remaining stations aren't going to be made accessible as they are going to replace it with an extension of the line 2 subway. If they had gone through with the LRT plan it would have been closed after the pan am games completed in theory that line would have been opened already. Unfortunately because our wonderful former mayor Rob Ford screamed about how Scarborough deserves a subway the project was cancelled with no actual plans on what to do with funding for it
