4/5/23 your painting is so beautiful! I drew a pretty horse, now I'm so scared to paint it, so far I've done the eye using your technique.. it's looking good.
I'm glad it's helpful! You've got this!
Hi Rebecca, This was absolutely amazing to watch from start to finish. The transformation to the final painting was awesome! Can you do more painting in real time rather than time lapsed and also mention the color palette you are using please? Thank you!
Thank you! You can find the colors in the comments. To see the video in real time, I invite you to visit the online school: rebeccarhodes.teachable.com
Thank you for this video. My sister just list her horse, Rocket. He looked just like this horse and was such a sweet boy. She has asked that I paint a portrait of him. She recently lost her cat, and I did a portrait of the cat for her as well. This will really help me bring him to life on the paper.
I'm glad it will be helpful!
Beautiful. Trying to use acrylics with much difficulties.
Rose, I haven't used acrylics. Sorry I can't help.
thank you
You are welcome!
Wow, photorealistic.
Thank you, Julie!

*WOW*
Thank you!
This was superb...I am heading over to sign up to your online course but wondered if you also have course for still life...or only animals...I have been onto your tutorial page but it was animals only..thank you.
Hi Sue - I'm glad to hear that you are coming over! Presently, we focus on animals.
Great video of horses in watercolor, its hard to render soft edges in watercolor!!!
Thank you! Yes, soft edges can be tricky. I find it helpful to use a clean, barely damp brush to avoid releasing water into the color.
Wow
I hope that's a good "wow!"
What colour did you apply first before the light brown?
That is a gray mix of Ultramarine Blue + Burnt Sienna.
Do you use the same technique for darker horses? I’d love to paint a Friesian, but I’m not sure how well the technique would hold up with such dark fur!
Edit: do you also let it dry in between each layer?
Yes, the same techniques can be applied to dark brown horses. I would apply thin layers of gray over the previous browns to take them darker, and yes, dry between each layer.
Rebecca Rhodes, Watercolor Artist sounds good! Thanks so much for replying, even on an old video!
Lovely work and great tutorial...Just letting you know thats a headstall/ halter hes wearing, not a bridle. ;)
Good to know - thank you!
Did you stretch your paper before you did that painting?
Yes, Robin. I stretched the paper for 5 to 7 minutes and stapled it to Gatorfoam board.
Is the same to paint first with darks or al the end ?
Do you mean the same colors?
@@RebeccaRhodesWatercolorArtist Yes the same colors, just dark and light
What colours are on your palette?
You can find the colors in the description.
What paper are you using?
I'm using Arches 140 lb. Cold Press
Do you use a projector?
No, I create the drawing on tracing paper.
Where can I get this horse so I can draw it to paint
The reference photo is from Karen Broemmelsick, with her permision. You can find her on Facebook.
👌👌👌👌
Thanks!
So Handsome
Thank you Mary!
What colors are you using

Can you draw a pinto fill body!
Lauren, I will place it on my list - so much to paint, so little time!
you did not show how to finish the eye?
The full eye can be see in the tutorial from our watercolor school.
Very good tutorial, why you don't keep actual time.
Because we won't to enjoy from your technic ❤️
Hello, you can watch the video in real time when you visit our online school.
It's amazing, but I wish you would not sppeed the video up, and please tell what colour paints your using throughout the vid!
Thanks Natasha, the goal is to provide a taste of the course. The full video is too long to put on RUclips.
Its very fast
Little slow please
