I spent three decades at the sharp end in a famous city force and resented to the point of insult any belief that a financial inducement/bribe could be expected to work in the course of my duties. Sadly, it is always the bad apple that taints the barrel and i would certainly agree that these can exist and introduce a degree of rotteness that should be rooted out at every opportunity. That it does exist is recognised and I recall being the subject of internal disciplinary enquiries on more than one occasion as one of a chain of those officers caught up in the web of those renegades (my own word for them) who betrayed the trust of both the public and their colleagues.
