X4 Foundations: 7.10 Beta 4 - The brave boron fleet

  • Hello everybody,
    After the pull results from the last clip, you have selected the boron fleet to take on the heavy defended xenon defence station in Family Tkr.
    What you will see next is the struggle of that heroic fleet against overwhelming odds. :D
    Fleet composition:
    1 Shark + 64 interceptor Mako
    10 Rays on bombard for commander
    1 Orca + 20 interceptor Thresher + 20 torpedo Hydra on bombard
    Conclusions:
    - it was one of the most costly battles I've ever fought.
    Casualties list:
    - 47 interceptor Mako
    - 11 torpedo Hydra
    - 5 interceptor Thresher
    heroes they were, all of them... But their sacrifice was not in vain, and the target defence station sit...well, defenceless...ready to be taken out by the destroyers once they finish reparing at the aux ship
    - Is clear that the 40 interceptors that I have in composition of my argon and paranid fleets would have been totally wiped out, against the swarms the xenon had available in the sector. And with their destroyers being less sturdy that the boron ones, I would suffer heavy losses among them, as well among the S bombers that would have lost the interceptors protection.
    So, the argon and the paranid fleet are clearly not suited for that heavy target, and I will not test them in this combat scenario.
    As such, that leaves my terran fleet to be tested, with the composition:
    1 Asgard
    3 Syn + 3 Osaka on bombard for commander
    2 Tokyo with 40 Kalis each, 80 in total on intercept for commander
    1 Honshu + 20 Interceptor Katana + 20 torpedo Falx on bombard for commander
    There is also the posibility of testing a solo Asgard, but would be enough if the xenon swarms to take out the engine and is game over.
    And so, for my next test, I will bring my OG terran fleet to try to take out the target defence station, since the terrans were in second place in your preferences. :D

    It's going to be interesting to see how the Terran fleet performs. Especially the Asgard.

    - Rays are still unreliable in using their beam. But it isn't much an issue since due to their shields and good engine design Rays quite immortal.
    - Xenon Is seem to got stripped by subordinate K explosions and did nothing in the battle. Ks weren't more valuable to be honest too.
    - Ion pulses actually hit fighters (being at stationary Shark). Good. In v7 beta there was confirmed report that Boron M turrets struggle to hit small objects even in point blank range.
    Capital ship fight drawn miserable +Hydras performed too well. I'd like to see how Hydras handle attack at their rear, if Ion pulse turrets capable to hit anything but capitals on the move.

      - Yeah, Rays can tank those graviton shots, for a while, but you must have torpedo bombers already on route to engage the hostile capitals, or else they will eventually go boom, and it is not like they are gonna inflict enough dmg to kill the K/I before themselfs will be taken out. But yeah, they are quite tanky, even w/o mods, like mine were.
      - As for the xenon Is explosion based defanging, indeed, if they have Ks around, is a solid tactic to prioritize them.
      - [Beta 3] Improved firing range accuracy of turrets. - seem to be true, at last boron capitals will have some AA, that is not storm trooper competence level.
      From what I've seen, I don't think the Hydras can get much protection from those turrets. Also, I;ve noticed that all my Hydra casulties were do to small craft, so they need interceptor cover.

    Damn. The poor fishy got slaughtered today. As always numbers advantage is a huge factor in space superiority.
    Your AA setup works much better than everything i tried. What do you use on Shark and AA threshers?

      If anything, this battle have shown why E variant carriers are such a bad idea, who would want less fighters on the battlefield? 😮‍💨 The "huge" 40 fighters capacity of the old carriers, is not huge, is the bare minimum, especially after 7.0, when, with the introduction of new xenon S/M craft, xenon seem to favor swarm tactics. I already had to change my tactics a bit, and delay launching interceptors as much as I can, so that the hostile small crafts be engaged by the capitals turrets a bit. And like I said in the description, my fleets that have 40 interceptors, are no longer viable for most engagements against xenon.
      The Threshers have arc turrets, and the Shark have a combo of pulse and arc. Arc is the best boron turrets (tracking, projectile speed, etc) with its low range being its only weakness, and the pulse have the best range (AFAIR), so I combine the two, the pulse aggro targets and the arc deal dmg when the targets come close. I saw the loadout on the boron queen Shark, I liked it, it made sense.

    The only thing that Rays lack in unmoded X4 is a good, or at least decent, anti capital L turret. Otherwise they are quite fine ships.

      Yeah, the good old X3 Ray. I wish we had an Ion Cannon or a Boron Plasma...

    Hi!
    after the 7.00 update, I decided to start playing again. Was it my imagination, or is it more difficult to destroy xenons now? Either the turrets have become weaker, or the xenon ships are fatter.

      П.с. надеюсь в игре появится DLSS, потому что фпс просто ужасен

      From what I've seen, the xenon crafts no longer just linger near your ships until turrets kill them off, but act like dive bombers, they go in fast, fire a few shots, the disengage and boost away, rinse and repeat. I've noticed this with xenon PE in particular. L beam turrets help counter this new behavior.

      @@VENomMagus I think my gear would not benefit from such upgrade (DLSS), my card is an ancient NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070. 😐

      Terran M pulse turrets on capital ships. Carrier groups are needed more now due to Xenon fighter behaviour.

    xenon B clearly kills mako.
    It was a bit impressive.
