Tip number two: Aim at something
Another tip: the more frugal and simple your cannon's skin is, the easier it is to aim with your barrel. The skins that keep the shape of the default barrel are the best for aiming
Naw, I have a way better time aiming with skin that has a spike in the cent to act as a cross hair

great advise.. Sadly the game itself is trying its hardest to make hitting cannon balls almost impossible.. Waves, Storm, Mist, random megs, Lag, hitreg.. the list goes on.

The only Problem you named that i know is waves consistently eating cannonballs
Which is why the helmsman must be aware of the waves at all times

Of course the reason why a cannon goes off to the side is because of reference points, the cannon ball isn't moving its going straight from where it was shot, but as you turn your reference of what is straight is changing :), science

I’ve been playing for years and appreciate all the tips for new players popping up with the ps5 release.
Fun fact: When hitting a ship with blunderbombs the side you hit the ship on (back or front) will always turn towards the center of the map.
*Intermediate* / *Advanced* *Tips*
-Think real life gunship shooting technique. Shoot as fast as you can You're making a trail with your volley to zero in on the enemy. Every single second you're not shooting is all time the enemy has to breathe and shoot you instead. Lots of Pirate Legends I see take too much time assessing their shot or trying to deal with the waves moving their shot.
-Don't pay any mind at all to missing. Just focus on the trail of the ball and putting as many shots down range as fast as you can.
*MASTERY* *TIPS*
-Pull the cannon away after each shot. You need to swing the cannon down and to the side (taking that time to reload of course while the cannon is pointed away) instead of trying to steady your cannon to be near your first shot. Anticipate your reload being done by the time your cannon is back into shooting position.
-Consider that when you lift the cannon back into a shot, if you stop swinging the cannon in order to aim first, in that second where you stopped to aim, the waves just pulled your cannon away from your shot. Think similar to drawing a straight line. Your hand needs to keep moving because if you hesitate or slow down, you'll mess up.
Basically, Fire -> Immediately pull cannon out of view while holding reload -> Swing cannon back up and shoot BEFORE you stop moving the cannon.
Fire as soon as reload is up, anticipating that the exact moment your reload wheel is complete, your cannon swing will just then be hitting the position it needs to be to shoot.

Good tips with the turning
I also recommend the mayhem cannons if you have them they have a really nice sight
I swear when theres waves, I shoot hella high and the ball goes straight down, or the complete opposite. Ive never found an explanation online, but i I think its something about waves
The only time you don’t really recorrect shots is if y’all are moving pretty straight and the waves are relatively calme
Get a cannon skins with markers consistently down the barrel. By using these you can adjust shots much faster
also aim cannons forward to hit ships first before they hit you if you are " sloop jousting" if its a brig front cannons forward for same affect rear ones facing back for chasing ships or other shots. on a Galleon same deal save for the two in the middle and certainly keep your cannons loaded ay all times. saves on the time to load a ball in which could make a huge diffrence, do that with these tips in the video and a level head with accquired skills and you could become very dangerous.

Some skins make it easier to aim due to reference points like lines or texture
PVP is nearly impossible in this game, the top 10% of players are 1000x better than everyone else. You need to hit all cannonballs, board and then literally kill everyone in 1 shot

I mean only problem I have is when even if you aren’t moving and a shot goes super far or when you hit a high wave and you can’t aim any lower and it makes you want to just scuttle yourself and get it over with

I find it important to always try to kill the megalodon or a skeleton ship every time they spawn in to get in some practice.

i had a man that would shoot to get the canon ball to go one way it went the other way but the physics shouldnt have let it happen i am now considering it canon that sot isnt on earth
Honestly cannon shots is all logical thinking. Use every aspect of the game, the waves heavy then wait till it switches up again. Rise gonna throw your shots higher, lower it’s gonna go into the sea so fight against it to keep it balanced. Use sails to adjust your shot and if you got a hassle on fighting “drive-by” pirates raise sails and turn to keep cannons on them as they cruise away and they can’t hit you with their back against you.
Me on safer seas be like :
As a solo slooper I aim for lower mast with chain shots and blunderbombs. Get ‘‘em away from their canon and hopefully bust their mast so I can skidaddle
I have almost cheater like cannons but as soon as a I get witching range of a pc player it’s snipe after snipe until they board I get obliterated by their flicks

@@Element0145Yes you can. Aiming with mouse on canons is ABYSMALLY slow. The only way pc players have an advantage is if they’re changing their dpi on the fly while fighting, which they most likely aren’t

It’s an optical illusion. The canonball moves in a straight line from where it was fired, but because you’re turning with the ship, it appears to lag behind or zoom in front depending on how you’re turning.

I have a 69% success rate of hitting
When you're turning, the cannonball lands to the side of where the cannon is pointing when it lands, but not where it was pointing when it was fired. Unless you're using the future orientation of your cannon to aim your shots, this is irrelevant. It will land "straight" from the orientation where you fired it, which is what you're using to aim. In fact, if the game was accurate enough, it would land very slightly right when rotating clockwise, but I don't think it is

Disclaimer: iron sights are not useful and only block more of your screen. Besides, it's not like you can't see the centre of your cannon

No, shots are not "turning" when your not going straight. You just rotate out of a straight angled view and it looks turning to you.

Sadly, cannonshots are meaningless and extremely pointless in almost any scenario. You are almost always better off just keep spamming yourself into their ship with the cannon and spam blunderbomb around until you are the only one standing on their ship, and then depending on your playstyle, either Drop the anchor and devise a killing route that you keep circling(basically battlefield gameplay), or just get up the mast dug in and keep sniping them down below(basically Arma gameplay).
I started winning more PvP encounters when i stopped doing anything with my ship except repairs.
This game is dead
