A note from Jakob (the editor) on video gear:
There are a lot of things we use to make videos that I wouldn't recommend people to use for theirs. It's just stuff we had on hand, so it's what we use. That being said, there are things we use that I would recommend, and those are listed below. I'm working on putting together a FULL recommended list of equipment to get your videos looking super sharp. That's coming soon :)

I, for one, love that Jakob is here! What a blast to see you two tackling the legendary Nightclub BookTag with your usual banter!
Thanks so much. It was so much fun to have him on camera!
it IS legendary!!
@@BrianBell7 Some are born legends.
I will forever love their banter
Thanks. We had a blast.
It's the best!
@@emzstern u guys are the best.
I love it guys! Excellent answers and exactly the kind of energy I knew you'd bring! I hope you both had some fun with it!! Rave Tingle ®
Rave Tingle is my latest million dollar idea!
So, in the most recent Weekly Reader vid, I commented on how much you guys’ relationship warms my heart. I have to revoke that statement because I now I feel so sorry for Jakob. To have to endure the endless 1960s/70s pop culture references must be literal torture for him. You’re in my prayers Jakob, hang in there!
Awwwww c’mon Darko 😂
@@Talking_Story 'S ok John, I got you. They were REAL pop culture references...
@@derrisreaditbefore knew I could count on your wisdom.
The first thing I thought right off the bat was Irish Whisky & The Bound and the Broken....and then you say it. 🥃 I'll try to get mine out early next week! ....and glad Jakob participated on-camera for this one. Highly Entertaining. 🍻
Thanks so much my friend!
Watching the two of you after I get off work is the perfect way to unwind. You two crack me up. Thanks for the giggles.
Thanks so much! Glad we could help after a day at work.
Madness, sheer madness... gotta love it. Nice to see such a wonderful dynamic between father and son.
Thanks so much we had a lot of fun with this 1.
Easily one of the most entertaining tag videos I have ever watched, your guys' dynamic is just lightning in a bottle! Also, now I want to see that dance battle between those two characters lol.
I answered all the questions under Brian's video, and that was so fun to come up with answers!
So glad you had a good time Esmay!
“If you think in any way you can match my level, you are deluded.” Sounds like some serious business there John.
Seriously, I laughed way harder at that than I probably should have. Keep it up guys.
Awww thanks nephew.
@@Talking_Story I haven't a clue on why it posted twice. But no problem!
This was wonderful fun. Jakob, you just don't know how much desire there is for Saturday Night Fever references.
Cheers guys.
Right!? Can never go wrong with quoting from Fever.
So glad to see Jakob on screen! You both looked like you were having a lot of fun! ❤
It was a blast. And Amy is back with me for Thursday. Been a special week for me.
Great job, guys! I love the dynamic duo working together on this video!
Thanks!
John knows we all watch for Jakob :D Also, The Spear Cuts Through Water should be the next Quilluminati read :D
I think the odds of that pick would be long.
Ah...the old days, going out clubbing...ringing ears and hangovers, those were the days lol - but I did meet my wife there! Great tag, guys and I might have to have a go at this!
Oh man I should’ve tagged you. Consider yourself tagged Chris!
The Darkness that Comes Before...man oh man you're going to be depressed (but also enthralled!)
I hear amazing things.
@@Talking_Story For sure my favorite modern fantasy series, hopefully you get through all 7 books
@@TalonBray 🤞
Oh dear!! enjoyed it so much. Good to see you both. Made my day, y'all.
That is so awesome to hear!
Sea of Rust lost? I demand a recount! 🤣🤣
Your re count is in the works.
POINTY STICK BOOK YAAAAAAAS!
😂
Let's just tackle the first one, cocktail hour: Rum and coke paired with The Sea Wolf by Jack London. I'm not sure if I'm required to love rum since i was in the Navy, but a book centered around a boy becoming a man on the high seas feels like a perfect pairing to me.
Love seeing Jacob on here, the facial expressions match what I thought they'd be for his responses to pops.
Love that pairing! I think I make him tired 😂.
Lol, awesome video guys. Some interesting picks. As a married man, you can't break the Bro Code and report Jakob to Amanda over Return of the King, man, no one deserves that 😂
I will follow the bro code 😀
Love the questions. Very interesting way to look back on what you've read.
Was a blast to do!
Great father/son rapport there. Fun video.
Thanks!
Gotta love it when both parts of the dynamic duo are on screen. (Don’t worry I’ll do this myself when I have the chance although I don’t drink).
Frosty beverage of your choice!
You should really do more tag videos it brings out the wild side of you John 😅
Thank you for tagging me I do love me a good nightclub! Ooooa oooa babababaaaaaaaaaa! 💁♀️🙅♀️🙆♀️🤷🏼♀️
Can’t wait to see your picks!
For the "Dance Battle"; I immediately thought of Vin from Mistborn Era 1 trilogy. Who to have her battle I was unsure though. Maybe Sequarra from "Way of Edan" trilogy. Not sure if I like the idea of a Dance Battle or 'fun' magic competition between the two. Hmm.....
Niiice picks!
You guys are awesome, so fun to watch
Thanks. Glad you got a chuckle
Can you say out the name Neil Gaiman. 😂I was listening while driving. Great show Guys
I will try to get much better at this. Sorry bout that.
Such a funny video today😂 Jakob's face expression and the banter made this so entertaining great job guys!
Thanks. Glad you had fun. We did!
Great job guys. Jakob it might be time to medicate your Dad, or keep him away from Red Bull.
Could you imagine me on Red Bull!? 😂
Thanks for the laughter you guys! Love how everytime Jacob says he hasn't read something, a little bit of John is dying inside. (To be fair, that's me everytime I try to talks books with my sister, so I can relate 😅)
Sucks a piece of my soul right out of me 😂
@@Talking_Story Well at least he reads some times and actually enjoyes it. My sisters tries to convince me reading is boring XD
@@emzstern OMG!
🤣 So good! Great tag, great answers, great fun. You two are solid gold together. Thanks to you both!
Thank you! Very kind of you.
I watched the whole episode as it kept getting crazier by the minute. Very entertaining. Your enthusiasm and unbridled energy left me needing a nap. Next book tag I will nap prior to the chat so I can keep up.
Mayb start in the am after a good nights sleep then catch a nap after.
You two are so entertaining to watch, I laugh every time! Great video guys!!!!
Thanks so much Amanda.
@@Talking_Story You’re welcome.
I live for these videos 🎉
Thanks. I hope you had as much fun as we did.
@Talking_Story absolutely! My wife had to check why I was laughing so much haha
@@albinorhino83 wonderful!
My answer for Guest List is also Neil Gaiman; in fact he is coming on tour (like the rock star he is) to my area in July and I am going! I have seen him twice before and I will never not go 😸
Oh man have a wonderful time!
Time travel, you have to check out "The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August"
Will add it to the list!
It's funny, because Goblet of Fire is the book that JK Rowling felt most dissatisfied with when she finished it. Not because she thought it was bad, but because she was under so much pressure from the publisher to finish it. But yeah, the book absolutely rocks.
I did not know that. Totally worked for me!
@@Talking_Story That's because she's so good, but I hate when writers feel pressured.
@@dannyjorde2677 the cross road of art and business has always been a very dangerous corner to navigate.
Papa just trying to show the young Cub how to use his big man voice😂
😂uphill battle there.
Once you get into Malazan, you’ll change that to The Toblakai vs Conan
I look forward to finding out what that is!
All Night Read was Jurassic Park after getting it for christmas the year it was published. I had no idea what I was in for and finished it that night.
That had to have been awesome!
@@Talking_Story He personally took editing advice seriously and responded to the readers as the story grew from nothing. Felt like I was in a secret club.
@@WINO1964 that is so cool!
I mean, of course The Hobbit and LOTR. I'm half-way through Return of the King now. I just bought Cloud Atlas and Jacob de Zoet at a used book store but haven't started yet but you've got me more excited to start the series. The biggest YES was Swan Song! I first read it like 30 years ago and have reread it twice.
I do love me some McCammon!
10/10 thumbnail 😂😂
Thanks. The kid does good work!
VIP entrance is easy for me. Wool by Hugh Howey. I got the 1st book in 5 installments as it was being written through email from Hugh. Still one of my all time favorites and it now has a show on Apple+
The show is great! Love the trilogy! Email Hugh and tell him I said so😀
@@Talking_Story Have you checked out SAND yet? Might be better than Wool. Completely unique.
@@WINO1964 I have not got to that.
@@Talking_Story No worries, I think he's writing the 3rd and last installment. Plenty of time to learn about sand diving.
@@WINO1964 I will add book 1 to the list!
Cloud Atlas left bloody in the street looking up at the bouncer asking why?
😂
As soon as I finish up Liveship & The Last War I am going to listen to the Sea of Tranquility. Only 6 hrs!
I never heard of it but I love time travel.
I can’t wait to hear what you think.
@@Talking_Story
Here is another analogy that I think you may appreciate:
I have to say Emily St. Mandel may be a victim of my Hobb Snobbery. After reading prose that is so incredible, it is hard to listen to prose that is in the everyday language. It is like swimming in the aqua cerulean blue water of the Caribbean then coming home and passing over the local water reservoir in your car!
I hated reliving all the most current events in such detail. I heard King did the same thing in Holly.
I have an hour left to go on the audio but my guess is the “traveler” himself has caused the anomaly. I was waiting for the book to get good and then realized I am almost done. If it was a chunker I would DNF.
@@heidi6281 sorry it missed for you. I so love her. Of course I have not done Hobb yet so I can’t compare. But I do love your analogy.
For covers, I have a special edition of pride and prejudice, probably my favorite story, og enemies to lovers. But the person that is selling them is based in Canada, and the 3rd book in the jane austin collection just dropped for preorder, but my favorite is still p&p, and also the only one I've read so far, need to listen to Emma as that's the second one I have in that style, just getting through Emma's personality is a bit trying sometimes. There have been a lot of pretty special editions, I just can't afford them. Book hangover is Atlas Shrugged, but not a positive hangover, that one literally drained the life from me, maybe if it had vampires, it would've kept my interest because I honestly don't remember a single thing that happened. I read lotr after the movies and prefer the movies honestly. I'm not as attached to it as others are, probably cuz they read it before so there's some nostalgia bias. Books I couldn't put down were HP, I think a coworker brought the first one into the store or something, it hooked me. All nighters was pretty much everything I read before college, I'd go into my parent's bed and read all the books I exchanged to get more during the week, nancy drew I was big into. I think my stepdad worked nights, and my mom slept on the couch a lot so big bed for my reading time it was. I was such a reading machine growing up, but they were pretty short books compared to Stephen King. The 1st edition of IT also has one of my favorite covers with the claw and the sewage grate with the boat. And it's now all covers that scream "buy me" so it's hard to pick.
You are so right so so hard to pick. Thanks for sharing!
Love me some Watchmen! What did you think of the Snyder movie and the (very brief) show?
Had a great time with both!
You owned a comic shop?? I've got to hear more about this!!!
I did. Hit up our AMA livestream this Sunday I will tell you all about. Time TBA.
For a guy who doesn't read much, Jakob has excellent taste in books. I am ashamed to say, I have not yet read LOTR! *Hangs head in shame*
What we do for our partners. Not till Amanda could I get him to read them.
Jakob is sooooooooooooooo hot
I will make sure he sees this. 😂
I'll be tagging you in a video next week if you'll want to participate 👀🥹
it's the mid year book freak out tag (a couple of questions checking in on your reading this year: best book, worst book, new favorite author, book that made you happy or cry, new release you haven't got to but want to etc.)
Been thinking of doing a mid year check in. This may be just the ticket!
@@Talking_Story 😁😁😁😁
