Yep. Me too! The alt build evokes the Countache far more than the official set. Sure there are accuracy issues in both, but they’re LEGO sets not airfix/Tamiya model kits. If the official set was a different colour or had more customisation options (the first Countach for example didn’t have the rear wing and US models featured different bumpers and side skirts- all of which could’ve been extra build options like with the Tagra set) I might have considered getting this. But I already have the 10295 as an alt build, I don’t really need another Lamborghini Countach on my shelf. 🤔🤷😂
While both have their pros and cons, I'd still say I prefer the alternate build. Two areas where it clearly wins for me is the narrower front, and the much thinner window sills. And a Countach just needs a wiper. Ironically, I do actually prefer the rear of the Lego set, even when oversized it just looks more accurate. I'd love to see how Firas could improve his model with the new parts, that would make it absolutely perfect!
At first I was 95% purchasing the Countach, but after your very helpful and trustworthy reviews, I feel like having the one Contach (My speed champions one) is good enough
Why is Lego so cheap with making a custom tire/rim setup for cars when the tires are such a crucial part of the looks of the vehicles? First the McLaren F1 with those silly narrow rear tires which are not even slick. Then the Mercedes F1 with slicks but still no wider rear tire. Same deal with the MP4/4. You are already making custom slick tires for the MP4/4, which is a special Senna edition even. Is it that hard to mold out some wider rear tires? The custom mod made on this channel looked soooo much better. And now with two rear tires for the countach when just a single wider rear tire would be so much better looking.
Interesting comparison, and while I respect your views I think the crucial difference is that Firas' MOC is off in small ways that can easily be modified (rear wing, engine cover, windscreen, etc), while the new official set is off in fundamental ways that will be very hard to modify and which affect the defining lines of the vehicle (staggered hood-to-windshield line, height and bulk of the rear end, etc). I think the MOC being a bit smaller also scales better with the Porsche and other cars in the line.
The Porsche alt-build is a stunning achievement. I’m happy you broke through the initial emotional response to how beautiful it is to have a real critical look at its (very forgivable) inaccuracies. The nose looks more like a Diablo to me now, which explains why it still triggered a very satisfactory familiarity.
My main problems are the bulges on the front being too pronounced and how they mess with the overall silhouette. Call me crazy but that bothers me even more than the oversized taillights. Also no pop up headlights is just a miss especially when the f40 was able to do so.
After models that could be modified like the Mustang or the Porsche, that Lambo is a real downgrade. Lack of the pop-up headlights is unexplainable. The B-Model Lambo is just an outstanding achievement, it reminds everyone of what LEGO once stood for. That's why its flaws are totally swept away by justyfied sympathy. I love it.
And I heard that the designer tried to say they couldn't make the pop up headlights work. Like you said the F40 did it a decade ago and there's a MOC designer that was able to do it too
The alt looks better and more ideal, but the actual looks mostly more accurate. People forget the Countach is not a very attractive car, despite being held as an idol
I have quite some experience with the 10295 set parts portfolio, having built the 911 Turbo first, then a MOC Carrera version, then Firas´ Countach (improved with a trapezoid windscreen) and now a modified version of his BMW M1. I have mixed feelings about the new official Countach set, I like certain details, but I´m not blown away enough to spend 180 bucks right away. Sadly, the giant step that was the 10265 Mustang with added steering and mods could not be repeated with the model lineup since then, IMHO.
The Firas B-Model would be the only reason for me to ever buy the Porsche. I would never buy the Lambo, unless Firas creates a beautiful Porsche out of it :)
I think we can all acknowledge that Firas is quite the Michelangelo of alternative builds for lego vehicles (at least in this scale). CreationCaravan is also very good. Kirvet and Sim Camat are others to keep an eye out for. Firas designed no less that 6 or 7 wildly different alternative builds for the 10295 Porsche set. Doing that within the limits of the available pieces is mind-boggling. Official lego designers (or regular MOC builders) have any existing piece in any existing colour and any quantity at their disposal to create. (Official designers can, furthermore, ask for new pieces or pieces in new colours, within reason and budget). The designer of an alternate build does not have that luxury (and their designs should be valued accordingly).
I bought a used 911 set on eBay for $50 and did the alt build. Spent a few extra dollars buying random white pieces to customize it further and make it look more accurate. I think I’m like $80 in, and my version is significantly better than the official set.
The official kit is nice, imperfect but nice. It's actually quite strange that they have so carefully constructed some of the inaccuracies where it would be easier to be closer to the actual vehicle.
Smoothing can be done quickly by dipping the print in Acetone and wiping it carefully afterwards. The longer in Acetone the more smoothing, but it might dissolve some minor details if dipped to long. It is also dependent on what print material you are using.
I built out the FIras version awhile back and made significant changes to some areas of the build but it's still a fantastic alt build, i will be buying the lego one and hope to see what the community comes up with in terms of adjustments.
While the Porsche build into the Lamborghini is impressive, technically given no parts were added, it made use entirely of what was available which is quite the achievement. The 3D model for comparison was a pretty clever move, as the proportions definitely look better, more accurate on the official release. Outside the oversized taillights, and weirdly shaped dashboard not much to complain about as I think the model displays, and looks great for what is is. Other than the printed piece count not sure why this one is $240 here in Canada though the DeLorean is about the same. That 3D printer is super impressive, as the 3D model also looks great.
I think that all of the details on the countach set are better than the porsche alternative build, and the proportions on the middle and rear ends of the cars look very similar, how ever the front end of the porsche alternative build has way better proportions than the official set. Its just embarrassing that the lego designers who had unlimited parts couldn't figure something out that was better than the designer who was limited by the parts used in the porsche set.
Great video, I really wished for this comparison! The bulge above the front wheels on 10337 in combination with the "step" (that shouldn't be there) between the windshield and nose of the car, still makes me lean towards the Firas version of Countach. To each their own what they find most imporant ofcourse. Anyway, I will eventually buy the 10337 and mod the front to be more to my liking. If that works out, I'll have a crack at the tail lights too.
The official LEGO model looks somehow weak in comparison to Firas' Alt model, especially for that $180 price tag! I knew Firas and was very familiar with his work since he joined the online LEGO community many years ago, and even back then he was exceptional. And when I saw his alt Lambo model, I was blown away by it! To be honest, this official LEGO Countach is more like a prototype IMHO, and it was rushed a bit.
Thank you very much for the unbiased comparison! I still like the Porsche alternate build better, but fair points go to the Lego set. Now I only want to see a Firas MOC with the best of both versions combined :)
The MOC looks good but rhe official set captures the overall look better (other the side windows) gets some porportions off and no pop-up lights or rear trunk.
Thanks for making this video, it was the comparison I was looking for/find out. I brought the instructions and even the stickers for Firas MOC couple of years ago but have been waiting and saving up to get another Porsche but then the official Lambo got announced. I think I might actually go for the MOC instead..
I tend not to get too nit-picky when judging the official set, given that the designers have other constraints regarding build experience, product quality, stability, parts budget and more that MOC designers simply don’t have to worry about. Plus it’s made from the same building system that also provides buckets of assorted 2x4 etc. bricks to 5 year olds, which has been carefully added to over the last half-century and kept as universal as possible. You could pretty much GUARANTEE that this set’s designers looked at different options to build various sections of this set such as the tail lights, but had to scrap them for the eventual final design to fit within the constraints I mentioned above. If you’re curious about the constraints that LEGO designers have to work within, I highly recommend checking out the “What’s up with that?” series of articles over on Brickset, which are written by a former LEGO designer.
The official LEGO set is super good, the moc is incredibly impressive. I think they are both about the same in achieving what’s possible with LEGO that being said I prefer the LEGO version..
I have the Porsche set built into the Lamborghini countach on my shelf and when I saw the new Lego version, I didn’t think it was worth an upgrade. After watching your video and seeing the comparison, I think my Porsche version kind of looks like a countach and a Diablo had a baby.
Thanks for pointing out the taillight being too large, squeezing everything out of proportion. I think it's an decent looking car, I personally just cannot look pass the rear design it just looks really off for me.
agree that the rear end just looks too disproportionate and kinda ruins the overall model. Other angles aren't too far off but the massive taillights don't work at all
Honestly, I prefer the official one. Yes, there are innaccuracies, but they are not severe enough to ruin the whole set. After all, it's made from Lego bricks, if you want perfect proportions, buy a die-cast model. To me, it looks like a cartoon version of the Countach - a bit disproportionate, blocky and simplified but still looking faithful to the original. Although the MOC is impressive, it is simply not as accurate. If I saw the car without anyone telling me what it was, I'd have thought it was a Diablo. The one thing that makes the MOC superior, is its tapered front end. However, when building MOC's you need to be mindful about structural limitations (they are much more fragile than official sets). I am disappointed that the Lego set does not have pop up headlights though, however I would gladly sacrifice the extra function if it means the set is structually sound. Although, I would have preferred a better colour like red or blue.
The problem with Scale cars is that you cant just scale them down to size. Thats the reason Hotwheels have designers. You need top adjust the cars design to make it feel right. i believe the version by firas feels more like a countach due to it being lower
Whilst I can apreciate Lego's attempt it's not for me. Unfortunately the most fun I get from Lego is the building aspect, and I simply don't have the space for this set. To then disassemble and use for parts the price is a bit too high, I remember paying 140 eur for the Mustang directly from Lego in 2019.
Perhaps Firas's model may not be so accurate, but it is still much better looking than this new Lambo official model. Also fair point that the official lambo model may be more rigid when handling.
I feel like the Lego one is still a bit better, but considering that it’s a full release, more expensive and uses new parts, it should have been *a lot* better
While seems to be one of those colours that can be found matching color from the Lego color palette. Trying to find a filament matching DBG or LBG is a pain... I think this may make sense that we get 6 of those slim wheel rims with better pivot - they will be more accessible on bricklink this way.
You don't get 6, the new rims have the same proportions as the ones from the Porsche set and in the rear they add a slimmer rim and tire - the doubled-up tires are not the same width.
The porsche lambo curved front and the lack of that curve on the official one for me is where the official one broke. Its like its not a lambo model but just a larger scale version of the speed champions one wc also had the blocky front
The overall shape of the alt build is more like a Diablo than a Countach. The 5000 QV did have these overly large arrowhead shape tailights, and these are really close for a Lego.
@@RacingBrick well it's a Lego, I mean the headlights on the Porsche are overly large also. The tailigjts on the alt build Lambo look horrible. I can find problems with the Mustang, the F40, the Mini Cooper, the Camaro and the Corvette.
@@RW-zh7kl sure, these are not diecast models and it is fine. As I mentioned in the video I am fine with most of the proportions of the LEGO set, but the rear section with the taillights really stands out. Considering the fact that brand new parts were developed to capture the shape, I really wonder if they could have been made more proportional with a different solution.
@@RacingBrickyah I mean I agree with you, for Lego it prob comes down to how many custom parts they want to make I'm guessing, and then getting the parts to all fit and line up. They def spend more time and money designing certain sets
The door windows kill it for me! They look terrible! Think I’ll just buy a second Porsche model and build the MOC version instead and add extra parts to further improve it! Maybe buy the official model windscreen, when it becomes available to buy separately!
You can find the mould king countach at 35/40 usd.. It s the Firas a little bit improved. Mould king blocks have a good quality. Now many Chinese brands have a good quality... Sometime equal to Lego...
@racingbrick What are your thoughts of this set compared to Rastacoco's MOC? I'm choosing to make the MOC over the set because in my opinion it's miles more accurate.
What nobody's talkin about is that you want a model to look accurate and not to be 100% accurate. Even if compared to a blueprint the official set has more accurate proportions on some parts, the mod captures the proportions better. For example the countach is a low and wide car so you wanna make the model look low and wide, even if you exagerated proportions and make them less accurate, at least you give the right impression, and that what the mod designer managed to do better, especially around the front and with the windshield
I just built the VTOL Spaceship set which cost £90 and it seems much better value than this Countach considering the size and parts. You can get a very realistic die cast Countach for under £30 - sure it's not LEGO but it will look great on a shelf.
180€ just produce different tries. Mould king sells the moc for 60 in eu . Lego can be more expensive though not to that extent. Wanna see a real model in that price range. Cobi masserati MC 20. Bigger model more prints produced in the EU way way more details
What everybody seems to forget is that a moc builder can go all out. No restraints what so ever. The Lego employee on the other hand, has to take into account things like production, costs, suitability for all age groups, release dates, playability, dependency of other departments (marketing, stickerdevelopers, manualwriting) etc etc … That’s why moc’s are almost by definition, better than the originals.
I think I might buy the Porsche and just get the new wind screen from the Lamborghini seperately, the moc looks way better but that wind screen needs to go lol
Here's my opinion as a complete non-car-fan: the Porsche MOC captures the essence of "a Lamborghini" way better than the official model. It looks more like an ugly doorstopper, and I mean that in the most affectionate way possible. Now which one looks more like a Countach, I leave up to the real fans.
The double wheels are frustrating. Knowing the Senna McLaren needed wide tires, they could have killed 2 birds with one stone and had double wide molded tires for both the countach and the senna McLaren !
I agree the official one has a nose that slopes too quick. the rear lights I could live with but a better color choice would have been preferred as the lego speed champions is also white and looks a bit bland in my opinion
The moc is more of a restoomod countach or a diablach/countablo. The official set isn't that good, but it's Lego so you can mod it and fix. Then is better.
i'm surprised that the new official Countach has so many accuracy flaws even though its licensed by Lamborghini. how did Lamborghini approve of this design? Lego should've introduced new lego parts at least for the rear end of the model... the front end is way too steep, pop-up headlights should've been an option you can use when you build the set (having fixed pop-up either being on or off, or at least make a lego part in its place that has an emboss of the actual closed pop-up headlight, its not that difficult...) the interior they could've simply used flat tiles instead of the flat triangles and that would already made it look a lot better. honestly this official set is kinda of underwhelming to say the least - they could've made it PERFECTLY but a simple MOC build like firas's one is actually more accurate in many parts compared to an officially licensed set. this is actually a little bit funny tbh. now here is the waiting time for someone to fix these multiple mistakes that Lego did with this model and combine the design of Fira's MOC model with the official countach to make the ultimate most accurate countach model.
What I really think is becoming an issue is the release scheme of lego. Back in the day, before covid, we typically had 2 major release dates for sets, being january and july. Some sets would come out in march or august/september, but the main bulk there. Nowadays, there a dozens of sets releasing each month. Ofcours we don't know when a certain model's design period starts and ends, but I believe a connection can be made between the abundunt release scheme and the quality of sets. I really experienced more rushed or innacurate sets in the last few years then before (or I have become more critical). It really feels designers get less and less time to dedicate on design, in order to schedule releases. Please correct me if I'm wrong, cause I do appreciate all the work the designers put into a model, but If I need to pay this much, I do expect to get at least my money's worth. A really strong point you made in the video is the fact about specialized pieces. If a new element gets designed, it is 100% intentional. So I really wonder what other solutions for the taillights there would have been. I don't think everyone will agree, but I would have prefered printed taillights with just a brickbuilt shape proportionally accurate compared to fully brickbuilt but oversized. Curious what others think. Thanks for your insights in this video. I'm a massive Lamborghini fan, and when I heard the news about this set I was over the moon, but the longer I look at it, the les happy I am. So I will definitely wait for a discount, as I don't think the price is justified for what you get.
I think LEGO has also gotten increasingly obsessed with "clean" designs. Firas's version looks more accurate but also "messier" in a sense, with more small gaps and exposed studs. This isn't a huge deal as you typically overlook those things as long as the general shaping, proportions, and vibe are correct. LEGO however seems to think their designs must be studless and all gaps perfectly filled in order for the model to appear professional, yet this creates uncanny valley designs where the fact that it's so smooth makes its inaccurate shaping and proportions stick out like a sore thumb. IMO, slightly messy but with proper proportions and shaping is much better than perfectly smooth with bad proportions and shaping - it's LEGO after all, it can never be perfect, but you can choose HOW it's inaccurate, and if anything the more "messy" style just embraces the LEGO aesthetic. The best you can strive for is a detailed and recognizable LEGO model that looks like LEGO - not an inaccurate poorly-shaped model that tries to hide the fact that it's LEGO.
@@Thinginator A Lego model is always a compromise. Lego has decided to put more emphasis on clean and few gaps, because I suspect most of their audience prefer that look over the messier look that's got more accurate proportions.
I don't follow your logic. With the number of themes, teams and designers, how would a more spread-out release scheme rush designers more than a big bang scheme? I suspect it's more the result of a drive for more profits, allowing less development time per model. The specialised piece for the tail lights is not that specialised. It's a slope that you'll no doubt see in more sets in coming months. While I see what they tried to do, those tail lights are just too big, it's really obvious.
The thing is, that front area and rear area are the most iconic part of the car. Imo the porsche alternate build looks far better from those perspectives. Really makes you wonder how lego messed it up.
I created a comparison slider, but I'm not sure I'm allowed to link it here, where you see the proportions are clearly wrong, and it's too tall. The bulge on the hood is deal-breaker for me, that is the iconic silhouette of the Countach, the poster that was on my wall as a kid, I can't get that shape out of my head, I'm sorry that this one just doesn't work for me. Maybe Firas can improve on it, and then I'll definitely purchase it along with the modding instructions, and yes, if the price is lower or the same as the Porsche it's an easy choice.
thank you for the accurate comparison with a 3d model too. initially skeptical in favour of the moc, but i have to say that the overall sights makes it look more like a diablo side by side to the lego one, which is immediately a countach. emphasizing the rear lights, air intakes and the convex front even if straight made its job
this is exactly the reason why I care about Function over Aesthetics, too much nit picking over TINY! details I get that its an icons set, but for what it is, its great, price is too much, but it looks like a Countach, if it came in yellow I might have considered getting one, and this is coming from some one who doesn't like the Countach

I wonder if someone will do a libertywalk one🤔
Sometimes people forget about the Hot Wheels effect: toy cars look better when the height is shorter in proportion than the actual car
That’s what I was thinking. How do the Mocs stand up to official Lego build techniques? I think this is a cracking looking set
Other angles aren't too far off but the massive taillights don't work at all
@@andyf1880yeah once I noticed I can't unsee.... Oh well too many other sets anyhow to consider
I wish they made the MP4/4 with double rear tires, and forget about the slicks, it would have looked just fine.
when is the motorized test of the logging railway I’m dying to see it (also nice video personally I like the official Lego model better)
Looking at both the Lego version and the build by Firas I personally prefer the one by Firas.
You don't get 6, the new rims have the same proportions as the ones from the Porsche set and in the rear they add a slimmer rim and tire - the doubled-up tires are not the same width.
you should have also done rastacocos moc
The porsche lambo curved front and the lack of that curve on the official one for me is where the official one broke. Its like its not a lambo model but just a larger scale version of the speed champions one wc also had the blocky front
The overall shape of the alt build is more like a Diablo than a Countach.
The 5000 QV did have these overly large arrowhead shape tailights, and these are really close for a Lego.
That's a 5000 QV you see on the photo, there's a clear size difference between the LEGO version and the real life car.
I still prefer the MOC and would look for a Porsche to build it
You can find the mould king countach at 35/40 usd.. It s the Firas a little bit improved. Mould king blocks have a good quality. Now many Chinese brands have a good quality... Sometime equal to Lego...
@racingbrick What are your thoughts of this set compared to Rastacoco's MOC? I'm choosing to make the MOC over the set because in my opinion it's miles more accurate.
yes this is definitely what i needed i just couldnt decide if the countach was better than the porsche mc
Nah the MOC looks more like a Diablo.
I ve paid the mould king boxed 30 euros shipped...
@@ciuffoarancione8929 if you import from china yeah 30 is absolutly possible but thats usually an unfair comperision.
@@oKnuTo shipped from Europe (France) . 4 days to arrive at home (italy) . Bought on aliexpress.
@@ciuffoarancione8929 i know its possible but we all know ali express is a bit shady
He’s going to start making his own sets
What everybody seems to forget is that a moc builder can go all out. No restraints what so ever.
The Lego employee on the other hand, has to take into account things like production, costs, suitability for all age groups, release dates, playability, dependency of other departments (marketing, stickerdevelopers, manualwriting) etc etc …
That’s why moc’s are almost by definition, better than the originals.
The Lego model would be better if there were no studs showing. It would make for a smoother sleeker look.
Thanks for the comparison. I'm still not convinced though... The shape of the NACA ducts, the size of the tail lights... and why on earth white again?
The moc looks like a diablo more then a countach
The double wheels are frustrating. Knowing the Senna McLaren needed wide tires, they could have killed 2 birds with one stone and had double wide molded tires for both the countach and the senna McLaren !
The wheel size doesn't really match, and slicks would look weird on the Countach
i just think lego could have done better on this one looking forwards to the mods
I feel like the alternate build looks more like a Diablo
I agree the official one has a nose that slopes too quick. the rear lights I could live with but a better color choice would have been preferred as the lego speed champions is also white and looks a bit bland in my opinion
I think I heard that you can weld 3D prints together by melting down a bit of the filament and using it as a glue.
This was done with a 3d pen that practically does that
the firas is a masterpiece compared to the lego one.
Extra price is for the use of the Lamborghini name. licensing.
The moc is more of a restoomod countach or a diablach/countablo.
The official set isn't that good, but it's Lego so you can mod it and fix. Then is better.
i wish it was black with gold rims too
When will they release red Testarossa on which so many people look forward so long..
i'm surprised that the new official Countach has so many accuracy flaws even though its licensed by Lamborghini.
how did Lamborghini approve of this design? Lego should've introduced new lego parts at least for the rear end of the model...
the front end is way too steep, pop-up headlights should've been an option you can use when you build the set (having fixed pop-up either being on or off, or at least make a lego part in its place that has an emboss of the actual closed pop-up headlight, its not that difficult...)
the interior they could've simply used flat tiles instead of the flat triangles and that would already made it look a lot better.
honestly this official set is kinda of underwhelming to say the least - they could've made it PERFECTLY but a simple MOC build like firas's one is actually more accurate in many parts compared to an officially licensed set.
this is actually a little bit funny tbh.
now here is the waiting time for someone to fix these multiple mistakes that Lego did with this model and combine the design of Fira's MOC model with the official countach to make the ultimate most accurate countach model.
The one from maestro Firas is just more Diablo-looking and confuses people by making them feel more Lamborghini out of just one model 😁
The MOC looks more like a Diablo.
What do you think is the most accurate to original Lego car in the Icons series?
Price will definitely drop on this and then might buy might
I really think the Porsche alternative build is far superior to look at at least.
I wish that it was ANY color than white! How bad would the yellowing be?
The thing is, that front area and rear area are the most iconic part of the car. Imo the porsche alternate build looks far better from those perspectives. Really makes you wonder how lego messed it up.
The custom build looks a little like a Diablo to me, from the front I mean
Explain to me why Lego and go put a black windshield? While IRL it’s often transparent 🤔
You are allowed to link anything, I'd be interested
thank you for the accurate comparison with a 3d model too. initially skeptical in favour of the moc, but i have to say that the overall sights makes it look more like a diablo side by side to the lego one, which is immediately a countach. emphasizing the rear lights, air intakes and the convex front even if straight made its job
im going to wait & see what Firas does with official set/parts ...as the official versions nose section & rear are horrible
I think people are way too critical. This is LEGO after all. If you want an accurate model, buy a TAMIYA, or something like that.
this is exactly the reason why I care about Function over Aesthetics, too much nit picking over TINY! details I get that its an icons set, but for what it is, its great, price is too much, but it looks like a Countach, if it came in yellow I might have considered getting one,
and this is coming from some one who doesn't like the Countach
