I do this work for a living full-time in a school and I respect the job but I’m not going to miss it either after I find a much better, easier job. The job wouldn’t be so bad if the managers properly staffed the building with the right number of custodians. At my school, they don’t do that at all and we’re short handed almost every night. From my own experience, custodians don’t get much respect. It can be a hard job when they put too much work on you at once. I got a Master’s degree in IT engineering so I hope to find a much better, easier position soon. I have much respect for my custodial brothers and sisters in the world. 👌🏻
What I hated the most in my 20 years as a custodian was taking abuse from the blue collar female workers, like lunch ladies, teacher's assistants, office workers and so on, and getting reported for talking back when it got to be too much. Never did have a problem with the actual teachers, but those blue collar female workers were horrible.
Thank you. I'm a lead custodian at an elementary school. Comments like this make me feel a little better. It's a tough, thankless job. The only time you hear feedback is if someone has a complaint. But when I get an inspection score of 96%, crickets. It sucks. But the benefits are good, and my wife is a teacher at the same school. So it has its goods and bads. You look young in your picture. Do yourself a favor and kick ass in school. Don't end up in a job like mine. Everyone hates their job. You might as well do something that will make you rich. Thanks again for your kind comment
Working for a School District is the better option vs working at an Office Building. The Pay is Much better with great benefits. I have seen Custodians buy homes whether they are Single or married. Of course 2 incomes is always the best
If you go to your local public school website there should be an employment/career option with available positions within the schools/school in your area!

This should be the day in the life of a head custodian.

Custodians & Cafeteria Workers deserve way more respect they're the backbone of all the schools without them schools wouldn't be were they are now
