    • @boatrat
      @boatrat 9 месяцев назад +1

Maybe so, maybe not. I mean, they undoubtedly did trust & respect each other to ACT in that manner here. My rebuttal would be the question of "why". Of course, yes, they undoubtedly were portrayed as friends, although there was also an obvious portrayal of a long-standing context of rivalry between them as well.
But perhaps you fail to appreciate the primary importance in this scene particularly, of military hierarchy/authority rules here. Or in this case, the Exceptions to those Rules. My point being: These would likely be pretty much their same actions, if they were merely working Starfleet colleagues who barely knew each other at all on any personal level. If for example, Worf's "Security Chief" position were newly occupied by some other random officer who happened to be recently transferred on board and was effectively only a brand-new acquaintance to any of the regular crew.
For comparison, see the dynamic between Denzel Washington's character with the "COB" (Chief Of the Boat) in the movie Chrimson Tide, during the crux of the initial Command Crisis between Washington's "Newly-transferred XO" and the "Old-guard Captain" played by Gene Hackman. The XO and COB were only newly aquainted, i.e., just began working together on that cruise. (XO's only prior friend aboard, was the Weapons Officer with whom he had served previously.) Despite the whole crew's trust of their longtime Captain, the COB and others immediately supported the new XO's objections, OVER their personal loyalty to their CO. Because as Riker says here, the "safety of the crew and the ship" (or in the Crimson Tide scene, the safety of whole nations... but, y'know, same idea), OVERRIDES feelings of friendship or personal loyalty, in the mind of any philosophically-competent senior officer.
To put it another way: Riker was certainly at least as much of the "Ride or Die" mindset/sentiment toward Picard, as toward anyone else in his life, no? That loyalty becomes quickly irrelevant, if/when Picard goes demonstrably "off the rails" in his professional actions. In that respect, his personal regard for the Skipper becomes moot, the moment it becomes clear to him that this isn't actually Picard standing in front of him at all. It's somebody else. Then when Worf sides with him, it's not because of personal loyalty to Riker. It's because he's made the same observation of the "Captain", and comes to the same conclusion.

But all I was trying to explain here, was not that there WASN'T a very high personal loyalty between Riker and Worf. There certainly was. I agree about that part.
What I'm trying to point out, is if you understand anything about the Military Mindset (traditions, protocols, command structure, command obligations, and personal relationship issues within that working context), you'd realize that DESPITE the loyalty between Riker and Worf, that's simply NOT the main motive driving this interaction at all, in this particular case.
Two entirely unrelated things, can both be true at the same time.

They're a classic friendship story. Neither trusts the other initially, but through shared experience they ultimately come to respect eachother hugely.
But I agree with the comments here to an extent- starfleet officers don't blindly follow rules. Even Data weighs up how likely a command given is authentic before he executes it. So friendship isn't the only thing at work here. Worf is questioning Picard's judgement, not his authority.

The mutiny scene is a prime example of how important cinematography and editing are to have a lasting impression on the audience. The scene stuck in my head when I first watched it as a child and it never left me to this day. Growing up I always thought it was just because of the terrific acting and the ominous music playing in the background.
But once I learned more about filmmaking, I realized what really fascinated me all these years. Picard's close-up with Riker walking towards him out of focus to belay the order. The focus shifting to Riker standing in between Picard and Worf. The close-up of the now turned Picard with the pulsar shining behind him and illuminating his cold eyes. The shifting of the focus between Riker and Worf to mutiny without saying a single word while the light from the pulsar illuminates the bridge. Back to a close-up of Picard with the pulsar in the background and fade to black.
This is just ingenious cinematography and editing that really sells this scene to the audience.

Depressed people, children, autistics, and the financially struggling are just a short list of people who are struggling to form positive habits, and do not have a proper "In Character" behavior mode to be identified by.
Furthermore addicts trying to break negative habits must act outside their comfort zones, and people who play role-playing games may be being played by the game as opposed to mastering playing it.
It will be almost impossible to determine reality merely by In Character or Out of Character traits.
These were useful before but will be less useful now that they may be effectively counterfeited. Learning how they work only hastens the cat and mouse chase between authentic identification and false positives.

The Nausicaan did a pretty good job of acting like a Kzinti, which is of course what they are meant to be. It's just easier to put a werewolf mask on a tall guy than have a 500 pound, 8 foot tall tigerman on set.

    • @Dorian-_-Gray

There's no Nausicaan in this episode. You mean the tall guy with fangs? He's a Chalnoth. Don't think we ever saw one of those before or after. The character might be why they put the Nausicaan fangs on the outside, though. Apparently they had to have someone standing just off camera to take this guy's fangs out because they were so uncomfortable.

If it had been more ambiguous and grey, such as Picard ordering them to fire on an unarmed Romulan colony, would have been more tense.
