One thing I would add, is to store your guitar with the volume and tone pots at Zero........ maybe it's not necessary, but if there's a 'flat spot'. I'd prefer it on the beginning of the throw, than anywhere else.

I'm a lefty and I've been playing a older fender I picked up at a pawn shop for 50 bucks. I just bought and received a brand new schecter omen 6 diamond series. I've never wanted to shred before always wanted to rhythm. Chugs doubles and triple gallops power cord drop D and C with a handful of single notes. But now after 10 years of that I now want to learn to shed. Theres alot of guys to learn from. Maybe your 1 maybe not but would like to see. I have to admit going from the 50 guitar to that schecter is night and day makes me feel like a pro for a min then I check myself.... your just a owner of a struggling small drywall company. Lol. Thanks I'm hopeful I'll learn some new tricks. And maybe 1 day I can read music as well. But for today I'll watch and mimic LOL

Well I got lucky and have little room in my home and they have been stored standing up for several years in hard cases. I have them inside in the living room closet that backs up to my bedroom and not the outside wall. I also like de-turned strings so I should be good there. I probably need to break them out and clean them down again. Thanks,!

I keep mine in its case hanging on a big hook on the ceiling. It's out of the way and I don't like it over 60°. And perfect moisture levels. 🌿🌾🌿

I'm in Michigan, constant weather change. I have a basement fully finished, all amps, and drum kit are there., I'd like to store my guitars there also, in case or on a rack. Sometimes it gets cold down there, I do have heat but it's still a basement., summer ac pumps down there too. I think I'll need a dehumidifier for summer time.
Y'all have any other suggestions?

Hi david should i worry about at neck pocket crack on a fender stratocaster?

Remember there is a lot of tension in that area with the strings tight and the neck bolted in - that is if its a bolt on neck - so I would have it checked out at a reputable repair facility as perhaps it can be addressed before it gets worse. I always keep my guitars in the living room close to the amp on one of those multi-guitar stands. Lately I've been wondering if that's good for them because I literally don't use any air conditioning or heat during extreme times of the year. I live in the midwest. So, basically my guitars experience temperatures close to whatever is happening outside. Is there a temp range for guitars to stay in? Humidity levels that I need to be maintaining? Also, a video on storing an acoustic guitar would be good. I should be treating my Martin better. It usually goes in the case during the Winter, but that's about all I do for it.

Great video David, thank you! I have one question: If you were to choose between storing your guitars in a simple rack with the guitars inside their hard case, or to build a "hard" furniture that can hold several electric guitars, what do you think would be more correct?
I think either way would work. But as long as the room is climate controlled or never gets too hot or too cold I think storing them in their cases on a simple rack is fine. It gets cold here in Washington. Temp varies quite a bit. Down to 20 deg F. Winter, up to 90 Summer. Cold = sharp. Hot = flat. Only about a half step each way at best. String tension is nothing to worry about here.

I have one guitar and at first I kept it in the case, and it did not get played. Now I keep it in the stand begging me to play it and now I play it every day

Should i leave the silica gel in the bag when storing my guitar?
Hi - leaving that bag in there won't hurt anything, its ok. But they probably aren't doing much so most people throw them out after they get the guitar. Those silica bags are included in the shipping materials with electronics and anything else that could be damaged by too much humidity. And thank u for watching - really appreciated. In my last comment I was not trying to be rude I just seems like I'm new to guitar has been playing for maybe a year never picked up a Guitar my life I've been learning a lot about them since I started on RUclips it seems like we've got more people trying to sell products everybody to Pro everybody trying to tell you how to play we got some people telling you the story guitar and loosen the strings up when he's shipping then you got other people telling you that your neck is designed for that have tension Don your string because it counteracts the truss rod there's just so many different opinions

Hi there. As far as hanging guitars inside the house. I suggest hanging them in a room in the house that gets heat and A/C to control the climate - not in a garage or basement and dont hang on an outside wall if you live in a really cold climate. You just want a nice even temparature where the guitar won't be exposed to extreme heat or cold and also not near windows that will expose it to direct sunlight as that may affect the finish of the guitar over time. Hello David I love your video and many learn from u I have a question what's is different single coils bridge position vs humbucker bridge position on fender stratocaster hss vs sss
Hi and thanks so much for your kind words - really appreciate that and it means a lot to me. Keep up all that hard work on that guitar and keep having fun with it! Regarding your question on the configuration on the pickups on a strat - HSS refers to the 3 pickups being hum bucker in the bride position and then single coils in middle and neck positions. As opposed to a 3 single coil pickup config of SSS which is single coil in all three positions - bridge, middle, and neck. If you want to have the option of a bit hotter and higher output sound then you may want to opt for the HSS as it is nice to have that option for a hum bucker. A lot depends on style of music you play and the sounds you want to create with the guitar. Hope that helps. Take care and have a rocking day! -David Taub, Next Level Guitar Inc.
Great video! I don’t store my guitars long term, I play all of them at least once a week, but they do sit in the case for a few days a week in a row. Is it okay keep the case on its side?

What about storing multiple guitars in hard cases next to eachother like side by side is that bad? Also are the silica gel packs a bad idea
Hi there and thank u for watching this lesson. I dont think there is anything wrong with storing guitars in hard cases next to each other - that is fine. Just not in a garage or basement that get super cold or super hot. As far as those silica gel packs - they are used to help absorb moisture during transport and storage so you can leave them in the case if they came with them - no prob there at all. Thanks David for bringing this issue back to my attention. I have a collection of 30 + high end $2-7 G guitars on stands and wall hangers. Most I keep in standard tuning. I keep the AC on always in South Florida at 74F and the humidity stays around 45 percent. I have closets full of all the cases. I keep them all out because I want them to breathe and in the cases I'm thinking the wood would be sucking all the moisture out and eventually drying out and hurting my guitars. Am I doing Wrong? What would you do in my situation?

Does an electric guitar need some kind of humidifier inside a hard shell case for long term storage?
I dont think there would be a long term benefit for most solid body electric guitars. Hollow or semi hollow perhaps as they are not solid and the tops are thinner, but not sure as those tops are pretty strong and braced. Great video! I'm not storing any of my stringed instruments for a super long time without playing them, but I definitely wanted to learn the best way to just have my guitar collection stored up when not using them. Still debating whether or not to switch my entire line of guitar cases that are on their side to a vertical position. Do you think there's a drastic difference in having them vertical rather than their side? Thank you for your work!

I think its always better to store vertical, but if you are just storing short time as per your post it probably doesn't make too much of a difference. guitar hangers slowly destroys guitars or not ?
Hi - some people think the hangars can rub into the finish on the top of the neck from constantly going back and forth, but I have not had a problem with that issue. I have multiple guitars with scars from wall hangers. Some paint and some stained
I'm in Colorado..I run a humidifier keep my room at 40% bout ,68 degrees.should I up the temp or use a warm air humudifier..? I play all my guitars everyday bout 3hours practice. So I keep them out and ready to play. I like to play drop d tune it's been working well so far. Winter is a different deal though. Thanks for the lessons I been soley sticking to your website. I am getting much better at trying to identify root notes keys and movable open positions. You gave me some great lesson s to fill some missed gaos in my arsenal. Keep up the great work. Much appreciated.

Hi David,thanx for the vid. I keep my Strat. in a hard case,laying across( flat) the arms of a "lazy boy" that we dont use much.I play it every other day usually. Is this O.K? Also I have Callus on my fingers, but they still get sore?? I've been playing for about a year( I'm 62).What am I doing wrong?Thanx Dave.
Hi Jim and thank u for checking out the videos - really appreciated. Sounds like you are storing your guitar just fine - long as its not subject to extreme heat or cold. As far as your fingers getting sore - not sure why that happens as you have been playing a good while. Are you using really thick gauge strings perhaps? Do you do some warmups before starting off? Let me know on those. The soreness should go away after a while especially if you have built the callouses on ur fingertips. I dont think u r doing anything wrong. Hi Jim - it just seems that you have been playing long enough that you shouldn't be experecing that much finger tip soreness at this point. That is why I asked about the string gauge. Next time you take your guitar in for a set up you can ask the tech what gauge strings are on it as you have to examine them to find out - if you are using really heavy gauge strings and your guitar action is high or the guitar is out of adjustment and hard to play then perhaps that can have something to do with the soreness. Some basic finger exercises are good for warmups. I have many that I teach - look in the GUITAR LEAD>>>FINGER & PICKING EXERCISES section of the my website at www.nextlevelguitar.com - there is a free 3 day site pass on the homepage so u can use that to check out some of the lessons. If the instrument is going into an environment different to where it usually is, then it’s best practice too.
I have a 1968 12 string guitar which I am storing and I think reducing string tension would be obvious …
@@josephdignam123 What different environment? Guitar necks are designed to be under constant tension. That is a basic fact.
@@Thirdgen83 my point is what harm would it do in the case of a 40 + year old guitar which is a 12 string? A guitar which has had to have significant repair work done in the past due to string tension.
I’m also not suggesting taking the strings off, I’m leaning more towards backing them off a few steps.. (12 strings very often tuned one step lower than standard as well)
For a longer neck instrument like my Strat I will probably back the strings off 1 or 2 steps as well.
And by environment I mean the harsh reality of where instruments get stored… in a case, in a garage, or shed, basement, storage facility, attic, and going through rapid and significant changes in temperature and humidity every single morning and evening over and over again.
