Having lived in both Canada and Australia, I know Canadian phone companies like to give the excuse of covering a large area while catering to a small population as the reason for their exorbitant rates, as you explained. But Australia has a very similar ratio of population to geographical size and our phone plans are nowhere near as expensive. Perhaps there are more aspects to this argument that I am unaware of but I am very suspicious of their reasoning. Instinctively I suspect that the real reason Canadian phone plans are amongst the most expensive on Earth is a lack or regulation in the industry. Basically, they're ripping you off simply because they can.

Such a awesome professionally produced video - a super great load of information too! I have to check out the Nomad service.
In order to get free wifi from the van when we are in a city, we use a hardware device called the Ubiquiti Nanostation M2. I direct the antenna that's within the front of the van by the windows towards a Tim Hortons or a Starbucks and grab their free wifi, then my entire van and all the devices are using the free wifi! Like magic and free! I'll do a video on that soon.

Although I am separated from it while waiting for a visa (for my partner) for NZ so in Sicily for now soaking up the very last of the warmth of the remnants of summer. I am looking forward to your session on heating... it was so cold in July in NZ, that I heated up river rocks on my propane stove to keep me warm for the few colder hours of the night (OK so not Canada cold, just KIWI cold). And I am very aware of Canada and the ridiculous price of cellular! Unjustified I think. I could not even buy a SIM for temporary use and I had to go to Winnipeg every year for a short time for work. That was a few years ago and so maybe things are better now. Great fun video! Thanks.. love the funny French.

Since I started my French lessons via internet I learnt that it's either "quel"" or "quelle" depending on the noun's gender. Therefore you have to know the gender of the noun to form a correct scentence. Would be no problem for me since there is the exact same rule in my natiive language (German). If it weren't for the words that have different articles in the two languages. "Le soleil" (m) is "die Sonne" (f), the sun in English. "La lune" (m) is "Der Mond" (m), the moon in English. "Les chaussures"(f!) you have to learn by heart, even in German "die Schuhe" (m), the shoes in English. It's really confusing sometimes. ^^

But really now, other than TH doughnuts on the way back from hockey practice (for you, your enfant, or your grandmere) how can Tim Horton and the Beibs compare to all the incredible mountains, rivers, - LAND in Canada? PEI? Whistler? The Sunshine Coast? The far North? Or the cities - Quebec or Van? Or for that matter the Dinosaur Museum near Calgary? And what about the incroyable Native Peoples? Such intelligent stewards of culture, medicines, history, land, and small museums... yes, we lived up there with you for awhile🙂💕. It is a little cold and dark from Jan to March- but we miss you all and ALWAYS say hello to the Canadian Geese when they fly by.. “see you at home soon, eh?”

Merci beaucoup! My husband and I went camping last week and had poor wifi service. I am an artist and a graphic designer and I teach online. On the first day we got there I was able to hotspot my iPhone, but on the last three days my bars were very low, so we had no choice but to bleme it on the trees and the rain.
That being the case, we were trying to figure out if there was a way to boost our power so we can enjoy Michigan’s rugged outdoors while I work online. Your tips were very helpful, I found weBoost Drive on Amazon! Our next trip is going to be so much better! Great tutorial! Thanks!

In the States, I use Tmobile with unlimited 4G LTE phone data but only a 3g hotspot unless I pay extra; even then it's limited to 20gb/month. I found an app/program called PdaNet+ that turns your phone into a hotspot but hides the fact that you're using your phones 4G LTE with the hotspot. I use about 300gb/month with no issue and great speed on my laptop. It's definitely in a gray area, so don't tell your provider.

We use a removable portable modem which is charged by the 12 battery of the motorhome. We use it in combination with a roof antenna which greatly improves 4G or 5G reception. On top of that, this solution makes it possible to capture a wifi from café/campsite and redistribute it on the interbal wifi from the van. Here is a link to the solution we bought and installed.
