ALSO.... Forgot to mention..
VERY frequently we are loading to longer Overall length than can fit into the magazine.. Like in the case of the rifle in the video.
They won't fit in the mag.
He catches the brass because the sound of brass on concrete draws in the brass goblins
Why you gotta be calling me out like that 😂
"The precious! We wants it!"
As a brass goblin.....shhhhhh
And since brass goblins usually take multiple rounds before letting it go, you have to bring another gun, or keep a spare mag loaded, it's just easier to catch it yourself. Yes, I learned that the hard way.
I usually don't mind the brass goblins until they're the goons that don't communicate and just walk all around you and sometimes in front of you and your gun looking for brass, that's when they piss me off.
Those god damn brass goblins
Holy shit I learned something on break at work.
No, you didn't.
Dude, you're easily one of my favorite gun people. You've won me over with comedy and information in every video, superb content.
Reminds me of Mike B. Just a dude telling it how it is and doesn't give a fuck what others think.
Overton, you forgot the most valid reason; because we’re not seating them at mag length, that’s why they’re not going in the magazine, they won’t fit. Plus like you said, (almost) they would get beat from recoil and the seating depth would change or the wind cone would be deformed.
Shit, pinned that on the short version of this video... forgot this one.
Fixed.
Support the people that you watch and enjoy the content. Not only that, learn something while doing it. Supporting here from Gettysburg Pa. Keep up the good fight. Over&out!
This is how we learned in STA school in the 80's. The M40's didn't have magazines. They would be pointless for several reasons. plus we caught the casing at the ejection port when cycling. Not to keep the brass safe, but to dampen the noise, avoid leaving target indicators at the FFP and keep the shiny brass from potentially flickering. I'm sort of a cold war relic that way.
I single feed because i load my rounds longer than saami specs and too long for the magazine. I get more powder in some cartridge calibers and higher velocities from those rounds. Also there is a single feed magazine designed specifically for the AR platforms its called the Bob Sled. You're welcome. Carry on. 🇺🇲
Dammit. Of course I forgot to mention that.
The gun we are shooting in the video is loaded too long for the mag... 🤦♂️
That makes sense. Just today I was watching the Texas Plinking 1 MOA challenge and was thinking; wouldn't it be better for consistent follow-up shots to stay in position and just run the bolt rather than pulling completely out of position to bumble finger fuck around the action to single feed? But keeping the ammo safe makes sense too.
Holy shit dude, I never even noticed you have 285 THOUSAND subs now. Been watching since you had around 30-40. Keep it up man!
"Yeah but,,, the extractor on my Mauser action pillaged from a K98 has to ride over the rim of the case causing stress fractures, key holing and don't point the gun at your junk when holstering" says Smooth Brain Willie. I love your videos and explanations. I'm off to slather my 1911 in grease now.
He's spot on about this, a buddy of mine does the same thing. His reloads are fed one at a time by inserting into the chamber, but when we're just having fun plinking, he'll shoot factory ammo with it loaded in the magazine.
I never knew I needed OvertonWindex in my life until now. Thank you for showing me the light Lord Overton ❤
Many guns have magazine "blocks" that rellace the magazine with a slick bottom specifically for single feed.
#AntiSmoothBrain
yes, buy a special piece of equipment when the one you already have works fine #AntiEmptyWallet
That b-roll is so slick
I'm really getting the "dad yelling at me while I hold the flashlight"-vibes from this, but unlike my dad, I'm also learning things
This is one of the reasons I have a lot of respect for you guys that are serious about precision shooting. The attention to detail & thought that goes into each shot is more than my squirrel brain can muster.
Me, to my wife. "Is that my adg brass hitting the ground?!?!" You're done.
This is the consideration that I have never before had. I mostly just shoot 223 and nine mill so that type of precise loading is a whole new concept. Thank you for the knowledge.
Why does my toast burn in the blender?
Wish I was as precise as you. 3 shots in a dime at 100 is good enough for me
Ty I never knew this I wish we could meet up so I can get some hands on learning of hand loading and long range shooting techniques
I bet you could 3d print a folower for your mag that would act like the single feed bolt assembly.
They sell sleds that do the same thing
@@BadBusiness.357 what is a sled?
@@ethanbarnes3973 it's a dummy mag that lets you shoot single shots in a rifle that usually takes a mag.
Have you made a rifle build breakdown video?
Off topic: I noticed when you unlock and rotate the bolt handle you hook your thumb around the back of the bolt. Is this to just to get it indexed for your rearward thumb push and catch or is there something else that I'm missing?
How's about a short mag with a flat top like the action shown in the b role? Basically a plug for your precision rifle. Fill the plug with shot to DeadBlow soften the recoil
So slick, so smooth, that whiff of smoke, the catch, so therapeutic....I wonder what the Battle Chemists set-up looks like...? 🤔
Overton is that one guy who would really like to help the mouthbreathers, but at the same time knows they can't be helped.
:(
It's the thought that counts
🗣️ PREACH🗣️
My favorite
I'm with you!
Is there any way to mitigate the feed ramp doing damage or is it just 100% unavoidable? Kinda looking into getting a bolt action as we speak so more tips the better ya know.
Controlled feed designs can help mitigate it, but there’s a reason Ko2M run single-feed actions. A 3D printed (or even genuine factory) single-feed block is the next best thing, and far better than just single feeding on top of a magazine
It’s great to see you be cheerful in a video lol
Only took a couple of weeks to sink in, but scratching the bullet is a problem?
You're talking about the nose that doesn't engage the rifling, understood that.
The majority of the bullet is gouged up by the barrel rifling, what's a scratch going to change?
No engineer, but I'm guessing the boundary layer at supersonic speeds negates minor surface imperfections on the bullet, including the rifling marks.
If seating depth changed or the point is damaged, I can see that being important at ridiculous ranges you hit targets at.
Still impressed at the skill level.
How about a video of you reloading process, I will be appreciated
In my personal correct opinion
Only a experienced hand loader chasing accuracy beyond most people's comprehension is familiar enough with these nuances of brass care can fathom this to be the correct way of doing things. Now I load bulk training ammo and sure it gets a more love in process then store bought, but the majority of shooters I know are either all in with neck tension, brass care, weighing individual charges, checking case capacity, knowing ogive measurements and bullet jump to the lands, weigh each bullet from a box to make every last possible variable logged and known
-or-
"I can hit a steel silhouette, what more do I need? That's just extra steps and you are paranoid "
i got to the point where buying a lathe to make sure the necks of the brass were all the same was next on the list.. i had to step back a bit.
You mean thickness? Turning the neck? Not necessary at all, unless you have an extremely extremely tight and Custom chamber. Not Sammy
I did that for my 338 a lot... then I forgot once, and measured zero difference downrange. So yeah, don't with that.
Gotta trim though. For me.
@@OvertonWindex which is why i never got the lathe. tossed all my brass and started fresh with a couple hundred new starlights, some varget and bergers. i'm happy with my 1/2" at 300.
@@johnsheridan6452 I think anyone would be happy with that
I like this dude
Well yeah
Very true if you're an accuracy hound. Personally if I remaned my own ammo I'd single load just to appreciate every round. Love ur vids
Saved me money? All you’ve done is cost me money! Now go add some new swag so i can send you some money.
💯
Thumbs up if you want this guy to prove how silly the backfire RUclipsr is.
Do it!
what does this have to do with windows?
Everything.
Precision Minecraft shooting?
Are you constantly shooting 800m+? This sounds like a lot of work for little gain.
yes.
Fuck yeah
Did the Prince ever show up with the other glass slipper?😅
Seriously, I wondered if it was just a pro shooter tic, figured there was a purpose.
Catching brass over a padded table. Ok sure.
The 5 shots 500 yards 1 hole was impressive. You're opinion has been verified.
Have you tried using a clip?
This is a joke before some one goes super fudd on me.
I wish i could single feed in my rifle. But, being the poor that i am, i have a cheap rifle that has a shitty feed ramp that doesnt allow me to single feed. Unless i put the round directly into the chamber. Granted, i could buy a single feed sled, but i just need to not be poor and get a higher quality rifle. Lol
My bolt action has zero chuckability.. its a bit irritating
I bought merch, now I'm waiting for just the tip? Am I dOiNg GoOd?
I love learning shit from you. You should seriously do some 406 militia training stuff for us local montana boys that have no local training options.
You just took a comment you made from one of your shorts and put it into a video. I'm on to you Mr. Windex
When are you building an F class rifle?
Building to rule sets is gay.
I want to be friends with this guy
can't single feed a tl3 :(
Mm slick bottom
I deeply appreciate this level of bullet autism, well done sir
unrelated i just noticed your lazy eye and that makes you look more like my old buddy even more, only notable difference is he has dark brown curly hair
a week's worth of work for a few minutes of fun ... talk about being married to your hobby.
Fine I won’t waste money on a special order 10 round 338 mag! Since you don’t want to see me happy!
In my 338, those mags are 4.050... AKA a 300 gr Berger loaded to the boat tail (basically)
And I've used the mag like twice.
!!!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣Slick Bottom .... KNOW WHAT I MEAN !!!??!!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣!!!!!!
“My correct opinion” is the greatest title for for a social media monologue that I have ever seen.
That's great.
Hopefully you'll never tell us you break in barrels.
Then I'll be happy.
But, precision guys are all about repeating processes, tested or not. Superstitious lot.
U make me laugh dude. Good shit.
Ps: fuck sig
Go buy some fuckin merch. 😂
Outro: the zen of being a ballistics nerd.
I don't know why I'm watching this. I need to master practical accuracy and here I am watching a guy who has to calculate spin drift and the rotation of the fucking planet beneath him.
@@beowulf_of_wall_stand target size.
Practical accuracy is RUclips speak for "I suck".
The earth is flat
@@OvertonWindex I am not even good enough to "suck".
@@farmyardfab well stop that
What caliber?
How is it your correct opinion when u stole all these things from professional marksman?
I don't understand why people keep telling you that your doing things wrong. Just look at his shooting you think he's just gets lucky all the time?
Really just want to correct you about some factory ammo on the subject of bullet push/pull. I personally made all variations of the Federal .308 Gold Medal rounds. Every one of them is running a max 40lb bullet pull and they all get accuracy, pressure, and velocity checked multiple times per shift. Also, I can attest to the Federal .308 SMK rounds being unbelievably accurate factory ammo and saw them hit sub-1/2MOA in accuracy tests multiple times.
I already got my smooth brain patch! It’s the ( . )( . )s
