This is the way. I've seen this in many places. Really eye opening in Colombia when I saw what I thought was an abandoned house project. Only to see this guy come work on the house a few nights a week. When I asked the airbnb owner about it he told me it was his brother-in-law building his second house, closer to the water. He basically works, and when he gets money, he comes and works on his house. Delayed gratification and no debt. Powerful combinations. Living abroad really put a fire under me to downsize. So I've sold my house and built a smaller house and I own it outright... yay me. In between every house I've built, I've had to "rough" it. So, it is so worth it when you go through a little pain, to get to a larger goal. Mission accomplished. Her hut is well thought out and imagine the money she saves. I think you find that with all your plans, you get to a point where you find it is good enough and it didn't need all of the things you initially planned after all. Just be mindful about the sellers of land, there has been problems , I think Leslie has experienced that too, maybe watch her YT channel. Also the last year or two I have seen quite a few people move to Ghana and then leave within the first year like Venessa Kanbi and some of her friends also YT. It can be expensive to live around the capital and inflation in Ghana this year is around 26 % it affect everything. So wish you the very best of luck with your project, just be aware of the challenges and go in with open eyes.

Hi There,
The type of coconut hut as shown in your video originates from the Ga tribe's Xmas coconut hut which I understand has disappeared from the Ghana cultural landscape.
So, I'm happy to see it make a comeback in another form as an everyday living space as shown in your video.
And, as an improvement, also for the longevity of the leaves, I'm thinking that a layer of clay or mud (plentiful and free in Ghana & I'm sure even to be found near the hut) can be applied once the coconut leaves have dried thoroughly (and adding a layer of clay or mud will not only protect the leaves from aging and decay but also insulate the leaves against fire).
Finally, once both leaves and the outer layer of clay or mud have dried, the hut can then be painted like any other house &, unwittingly, a new form of affordable dwelling would have been created.
A word of caution though:
The question is whether it'll be SUSTAINABLE if many coconut huts modelled after the one this video started to be built in Ghana bearing in mind that the coconut tree which provides the leaves, an essential raw material for building the hut, has been decimated in Ghana by a disease that first started on the east coast of Ghana and then spread along the Ghana coastline killing many coconut trees in the process.
Needless to say that coconut trees growing by the shoreline as was once the case in many parts of the Ghana coastline could have helped against beach erosion and also probably against rising sea levels.
All in all, as coconut leaves are harvested to build huts such as the one in this video, it's also worth remembering that there's an urgent need to plant new species of the coconut tree, preferably faster-growing specimens, especially along Ghana's coastline & what is being done in the republic of Benin can serve as a model/example.

For a uber driver to be able to buy beach front property, and it's paid off. Then to go back and make more money, come back and build a hut. That is awesome. Thanks for sharing this whole experience. I would truly do this.
She's amazing. Love her personality ❤️
Thx for watching!
This is amazing. I love what she is doing and her life experience. I love the interview. I wish her all the best!
I am building in Ghana next year. Thank you for sharing this idea and the cost so I may plan to do the same thing. Very affordable. The rainfall is so peaceful.
@@larsstougaard7097 stop lying, Vanessa Kanbi didn’t move out of Ghana in a way you are describing it,she is pregnant and going back to Scotland to rest until the baby comes ,she’s even building in Ghana now so which RUclipsrs are you talking about
@@worldformatics do they not have hurricanes around all that water? That is my only concern. I would love to live like this always threatening to build a tiny house. Lol
@@girlthinkshehasamillionsubs there is nothing like hurricane in Ghana ma’am
@@girlthinkshehasamillionsubs when has a hurricane hit Ghana 🤷
Yayyy two of my favorite RUclipsrs 🤗 doing a vlog together!

I’m glad it was ❤
Such a positive attitude & so much ambition. To the gentleman who built the coconut hut. People in the US would love, love those bamboo huts! The lacquer is a great idea to preserve it. Just a thought…maybe someday you can export them and customers DIY assembly like a IKEA. This man is a genius craftsman. Good luck to you, your quite the talent. Best of luck to Leslie on a most exciting journey.
I would do this. I would definitely need more natural light & poured concrete flooring. The gravel was a great idea for the shower.
I miss my shower honestly 😢
WHAT A LADY REALISTIC. I have alwys loved african americans. you have a great energy
